Massimo's beautiful apartment is located in a quiet area, away from noise and traffic and yet a few minutes' drive from Bologna's centertown. Massimo is very helpful and his home-made food delicious!
My wife and I stayed with Massimo for two nights and he was an incredible host. His condo was lovely and the building was magnificent. It is in a palazzo built in the 1400’s which went to ruin and then was completely rebuilt in 2007 with about 20 units. It is about 11 km from Bologna up a winding road, very secluded, but convenient. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated (as was the entire condo). Our first night, Massimo cooked us dinner (for a minimal charge) and it was wonderful. Each course out did the next and the accompanying wine and liquors were perfect. Our only day of seeing Bologna, Massimo went out of his way to act as our tour guide for the morning. He proudly showed off the architecture and many sites of interest and with his knowledge of Bologna brought to life so much of what we saw. He joined us for lunch at a pizzeria of his selection and we were not disappointed. We dined in an indoor garden room and the food was delicious. We met up again for dinner and he took us to a “typical” Bolognese trattoria which offered up courses of wonderful food and wine. Breakfast both days was accompanied by homemade apricot preserves, freshly baked bread and good Italian coffee. We were able to have many in depth conversations with Massimo during our short stay and learned so much about Italy and Bologna. He was an outstanding host and we would highly recommend Localita Castell’Arienti .
We booked this apartment right 6 hours before check-in. I got answer after 10 minutes! The communication was very quick. The house originally was designed by Palladio then was reconstructed about 10 years ago. Now villa has more than 20 appartments. To find the villa you have to go on the top of the hill when meet parking on the left. Owner met us very welcome. He cooked dinner for us and designed touristic path for sightseeing. To get to historical center of Bologna you will have to drive down the hill about 10 minutes. I recomend this place for those who want stay in natural environment and spend free time in Bologna center. The owner doesn't have twin beds. The rooms were clean and had all needed for stay. If I want visit Bologna I will choose Massimo house again indeed.
Staying at Massimo's apartment was like staying with a friend! He made my husband and I feel right at home with a delicious home-cooked dinner. The location is wonderful - overlooking a peaceful, quiet valley. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed. Should we find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely stay with Massimo.
Where do I begin. First off, beautiful location! We got a late start on our drive and didn't arrive until 0230. Massimo stayed up and helped us get settled in for the night. He told us not to worry about the checkout time and just rest. In the morning we had a nice small Bfast with some pastries and some coffee. My son broke a glass which we felt absolutely awful about. Massimo was really understanding and even invited us back it we were ever in the area again. We had a very comfortable clean private room and bath. Thank you for everything!
Massimos house was certainly beautiful and well kept both inside and out. He lives in part of what is a big complex with many other families. His living space is still very large and your stay would be shared accommodation with him in his portion of the villa. There is two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one shower) that you are able to close a door to to have your own privacy and in that regard it houses 4 people comfortably. The kitchen is shared which is fine, however this is probably where we did encounter some uneasiness. We can certainly appreciate many other reviewers were happy to try Massimos cooking - he emailed us prior to our arrival to say that he could provide us with dinner for €15 per person. We only stayed 2 nights and on the first night we had a late lunch so werent hungry, and the 2nd day we brought home a small amount of food to cook as we had a big lunch and werent overly hungry come dinner. We felt a bit pressured on both nights to taste his food and felt a bit uncomfortable as a result of declining. We were on the end of our trip and very tired so looking for some seclusion as well and we did feel that Massimo really wants to be a part of your experience, and whilst that is great for some people I feel that he would prefer to have guests who want to get to know him, his cooking and his knowledge of Bologna.
There is also a downstairs area with a large couch and tv but we weren't introduced to this area and he watched tv there with his daughter (to give us our space in the kitchen) so we didn't necessarily feel comfortable going to this area of the house. If we had dinner with Massimo he said that would be where we dined. Massimo was otherwise prepared with maps of Bologna and I think with other guests who are looking for that full experience I think they would really enjoy their stay. For those who are looking for their space and to do their own thing I would suggest you may be interested in an 'entire place' stay. Certainly cant speak highly enough about how beautiful the house is or the surrounding area. Stunning views. There is also parking provided and you are about a 10 minute drive into Bologna.
