The Space

This mid terraced home dates back to 1600, with 'The Old Maltings' being converted in 1997. The Old Maltings was once the private distillery to Falkland Palace, just a mile away.... Spacious and contemporary, the property forms part of a small courtyard development and enjoys great views over the countryside and the Lomond Hills. The property is on 3 levels, with utility room on the ground floor; kitchen, dining/living room, single bedroom and WC on the first floor, and 3 double bedrooms and family bathroom on the top floor.

The master bedroom, the LimeTree, has a very comfy heated waterbed and en-suite bathroom with power shower. The LemonTwist is a very comfortable and bright double bedroom with built-in wardrobes and views onto the countryside. LavenderMist is a double bedroom with built-in wardrobe and views of the courtyard and Lomond Hills. There's a single 4th bedroom on the 1st floor, and with the daybed (with thick memory foam toppers) opened up into a double bed, it can comfortably accommodate 2 people. All have shared access to the large family bathroom with 'Jacuzi' bath and WC on the 1st floor.

Make yourself at home in the large dining kitchen - breakfast is lovely at the counter in the early hours looking onto the courtyard!

For evening entertainment, there's the large dining table and lounge, complete with large flat screen surround sound TV and piano, if you feel so inclined...

You can help yourself to the juicer (great for pressing apple ginger juice, then mulling afterwards...), blender (for smoothies) and waffle maker and cafetiere.

This is a wonderful location for the Open, particularly for those distinguished guests who may want privacy during the Open.

This is the home of a professional glass artist, with work held in the US and UK. My studio workshop space occupies a room and garage on the ground floor. Guests are more than welcome to learn about the process and discuss commissioning glass pieces at a discounted rate. I may respond to a booking enquiry, by requesting some daytime access to my studio, if that does not conflict with your travel plans. Access does not need to be through the main door.

Newton of Falkland is a charming rural hamlet located 1 mile from Falkland. Falkland, is a beautiful historic town with extensive grounds. Sites to see include:

Falkland Palace and grounds. There are lovely long walks on the estate which include forest, streams and a climb to the top of Lomond Hills for great views of Fife and beyond.

Cycling on the estate or around Loch Leven.

Very unique gift shops, inc. the Cottage Craft Centre, Fayre Earth and the National Trust.

Beautiful walk and dinner at the Balbirnie House and estate, a delightful 18th century Georgian mansion nestled amidst 400 acres of rolling parkland in the heart of Fife. Alternatively, quiet drink at the Wine Bar in Falkland or good pub grub at one of the oldest pubs in Scotland, the Stagg Inn, where you can still get beer made with 1850s recipes.

St Andrews, Gleneagles, Perth and Dundee are approx 30 mins.

Edinburgh Airport is within 1hr drive and railway station in nearby Ladybank.

Stunning seaside views in St Andrews. Visit the Pier and West Sands, where the opening scene of Chariotts of Fire was filmed. Enjoy medieval architecture and bespoke shops. Great selection of fresh Scottish fish, Thai, Japanese and Italian restaurants.

For walkers, there's a healthy mix of coastline walks and hills in either direction including: coastal walk from Crail to Elie, taking in the unique character of historic fishing villages Pittenweem, Anstruther, St Monans and Cellardyke.

Expensive, but exquisite dinner at the Cellar, Anstruther. Frequented by HOLLYWOOD STARS during the golf season, inc. Samuel Jackson and Tom Hanks.

Munro bagging in Pitlochry and Blair Atholl. Don't miss homemade food at a working Water Mill in Blair Atholl, or excellent fish platter at the House of Bruar, the Harrods of Scotland.

Stunning remote landscape of GlenCova Forfar way, where you can 'bag' a few more munroes.

The Old Course, St Andrews, purported being the home of golf, and where the Open and Dunn Hill Cup are held.

Pitreavie (Dunfermline) Golf Club, Fife, Scotland (1922): A tremendous parkland course and tricky test with many key MacKenzie trademarks throughout. A short drive from the world famous St. Andrews.

The Portland Course at the Royal Troon Golf Club, in Troon, Scotland. A worthy and challenging companion to the Old Course, the many-times Open Championship site.

Leven and Ladybank are used for "Open Championship" qualifying rounds when the Open is at St. Andrews.
