I liked staying in this home in the historic district of Beaufort. The photos are accurate and the townhouse is very clean and well maintained.
We went in the Fall and leaves were all over the back yard and deck. We arrived a half hour before check in so we unpacked and not being sure when it got dark, I took a broom and swept off the back deck so we could enjoy sitting outside.
I shouldn't have bothered because as soon as I was finished (which was 15 minutes after we were supposed to check in), a fellow from a lawn service showed up with a power mower, mulched all the leaves in the front yard and then blew all the leaves out of the back yard (including the ones on the gravel area!) The owners made sure the outside looked as good as it did in the inside.
This home is located in a quiet part of the town, in the historic district and close to some GREAT restaurants. It's also close to the water. (You can see why they chose this town to shoot some of the locations in "The Big Chill", "The Prince of Tides" and several other movies.)
You can pay a LOT of $$$ and stay in one of the historic inns in Beaufort--or you can stay here for a lot less!
The townhouse was clean and inviting. Gift of jelly on the table along with directions for use of all appliances, wi-fi. Hosts had anticipated needs, including extra toothbrushes, etc. A pass for Hunting Island Park included with rental. Townhouse was within easy walking distance to downtown Beaufort. Townhouse looks just like it does in the picture.
Had a great time in Beaufort attending graduation for our new U.S. Marine in nearby Parris Island. Mary Gale & Ed's townhouse was very spacious and accommodating as described in their listing. Ed was very helpful with our reservation and the instructions he provided were great. Thank you both. Bill and Wendi
Great location and easy communication. Very simple access to the the house. Everything was as pictured/listed. We had a lovely time in Beaufort.
About the Host, Mary Gale & Ed
With roots in South Carolina, we have spent most of our careers outside the South. Ed was in the military and Mary taught at the elementary school level. We have vacationed on the South Carolina coast for as long as we can remember. When we discovered Beaufort and the sea islands, we knew this was the place. We are eager to be back and bought this townhouse as a vacation home. For now, we are offering our vacation home to others.
For several summers, we visited the Beaufort area and stayed in different locations (e.g., Ladys Island, Port Royal, Parris Island Gateway area, Pigeon Point, and near downtown.)
We discovered that nothing beats the convenience and simplicity of being so close to downtown and the waterfront. When crowded events occur along the waterfront, we never have to worry about parking (or a designated driver ). Shopping, restaurants, strolling the marina, the public library, and the Post Office are all just a few blocks away. You might be able to avoid driving all week, except for all the adventures waiting in the surrounding South Carolina Sea Islands.
For day trips, try locations such as Charleston, Savannah, Hilton Head, or Walterboro. If you're going towards Charleston, we really enjoyed the Charleston Tea Plantation; it was fun taking the tour and learning how tea is grown and produced. Walterboro is a favorite place both for its antique shops and its artists' shops.
Our townhouse is an end unit which we particularly like. Extra windows on the side give it a more spacious feel with lots of light. The raised deck is our favorite space because it is a natural extension of the living space and because the tall lattice fence and trees give a real feeling of privacy. In addition, the back yard (56 x 30 ft) is fully enclosed.
The neighborhood is very quiet. Surrounded by churches (Episcopal, Presbyterian, Baptist), Sunday morning is the only time when it's busy. During the week, the only interruptions are the hourly church bells from St Helena's Episcopal Church (but only during the day.)
Starting point for horse drawn carriage rides of the historic districts.
