Casa Christina is an authentic experience of real Mexico, San Miguel de Allende style. Set in the quiet district of San Antonio, it is only 2 blocks from the world famous Instituto which offers a wide range of Spanish and art classes. The Jardin at the center of town, is an easy 15 minute walk.
Stepping into Casa Christina’s walled-courtyard with its pre-Columbian sculptures in the fountain, immediately sets the relaxed pace of your visit. The spacious 3200 square foot house sits on a large lot and is furnished with antiques and the beautiful art collection of Robert Somerlot, a well known author who lived in San Miguel for 35 years. The living room is graced with 18th century carved chapel doors from a historical hacienda in the local area.

Although Craig doesn't live in San Miguel de Allende, he was very responsive and communicating everything accurately. He has someone in town to manage the property who checks you in and provides all instructions. There is also someone that comes in every morning to clean the house and cook breakfast if you ask her to.
The house is beautiful and has great pieces of art. The decoration is impressive and you really get the feeling of a traditional Mexican house. It is about 8 blocks from the main center plaza, still walking distance to main places. Has a beautiful church a couple of yards away.
Casa Christina was the absolutely perfect home base for our lovely visit to San Miguel de Allende. The house is artistic yet also comfortable, and the three generous and separate bedrooms creates th chance for both privacy and togetherness. We also loved the outdoor areas, especially the rooftop terrace, which was warm and sunny, even in December. The location is also great, an easy walk to the center of town yet on a quiet street. Craig was very prompt and helpful with his communications and everything went very smoothly upon our arrival. I can't imagine visiting SMdA and staying anywhere else!
The location of the house is perfect, you can walk everywhere.
The house is very comfortable and spacious, every room has an adjacent space so it feels bigger. I recommend this place to stay, great price and quality.
Our stay at Craig's house was great.
The house is just perfect, with great lovely decorated and clean rooms and a superb rooftop.
It has a lovely lemontree on the patio, which gives delicious lemons to boost your margaritas with some natural lemon juice.
The checkin was very easy and so was the checkout too.
We can only recommend to stay at Craig's to enjoy the wonderful town of San Miguel.
Casa Christina is a lovely, big, house a good 10 -15 min walk from the busy touristy part of San Miguel de Allente. I loved the mornings in the churchyard across the street from the house seeing all the kids go to school (adjacent to the churchyard) and buying a $4 peso Atole from the local seller.
This neighborhood is old and authentic and not at all touristy like 5-10 minutes walking up the road, I found this very refreshing to live like a local. Although the house was much nicer than the average locals house!
Dom, the house cleaner, was amazing she did our laundry and helped us keep the house clean as well as helped with our dishes. We gave her a couple hundred peso tip which was well worth all the help she gave us. she also cooked us a nice meal for lunch (which we reheated for dinner) one morning when she was there, which was nice when we were tired and did not want to go out.
We also got to eat lots of fresh lemons from the tree and the house came with fresh filtered water (in jugs) so that was very useful for non-locals to drink. (we made a lot of fresh lemonade) – the fruit was ripe and tasty when we were there in late August.
The whole house was really clean but the basement room was a little musty due to moisture, it was kept very clean it just needs maybe some work to reduce moisture / condensation in the basement. There also were a couple critters in the house, not tons, but some ants and we did see a couple roaches and spiders, but I would not fault the owners with so much indoor / outdoor living it would be very difficult to keep the outdoors completely outdoors…
The house really is lovely, old, big, and authentic.
We also really enjoyed eating our breakfast on the roof terrace as well.
There is a lot of stairs in this house so be warned!
I stayed at Casa Christina for 2 nights and it is truly a gem. Craig was very responsive over email and put me in touch with Domitilia, the house manager, to coordinate my arrival. Domitilia was super friendly and welcomed me to check in at noon despite the previous guests leaving just an hour prior. She gave me a tour of the massive home, answered all of my questions and made me feel welcomed. When my friends arrived later that evening, I had mistakenly left the house with the wrong keys and got locked out (at 12:30 AM!). Fortunately Domitilia answered the phone number she provided and arrived very quickly to let my friends and me in. Casa Christina is a quick 20 minute walk to the center. The neighborhood felt very safe and there are lots of shops around. To taxi to or from the center, it cost around 40 pesos total (about $3 USD!). Don't forget to share your name and story in the Casa Christina Guestbook ( (website hidden) ) where guests have been leaving stories since 2006! I would definitely stay here again.

My wife Christine and I bought our home in San Miguel in 2005. We spent 7 weeks remodeling the house and have enjoyed it ever since. I am a photographer and am teaching a workshop in San Miguel for Day of the Dead, October 29 - November 4th, 2013. You can go to this website and learn all about it (website hidden) if you are interested in attending. Christina is a yoga instructor and owner of Cheppu from Himalaya, a clothing and import store in Carmel Valley, California.
