My lovely 1-bedroom flat is on the 2nd floor with a large terrace directly overlooking the Grand Union Canal in Maida Vale. This area is known as Little Venice with its waterways and houseboats and is amazingly peaceful, despite its central location.
The owner is a real foodie and the kitchen has been recently done up with wooden worktops, a great gas range and oven, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher and a sweet breakfast bar area. The large, south-facing living room has lovely dark wooden floorboards, a very comfortable king-size sofabed and folding doors that open out to the 10m2 terrace, ideal for breakfast with the ducks, or barbeques and drinks in the evening sun!
The bathroom with shower/bathtub and heated towel-rail has been newly renovated, and the calm, white-painted bedroom boasts a stunning solid mahogany 19th-century French sleigh bed. There are drawers in the bedroom for your clothes and a small amount of hanging storage space.
I don't have a TV, but there's high-speed broadband internet with wifi and a 24" monitor too if you fancy a night in watching a film.
Interaction with Guests
If I'm in town I'll be delighted to meet you in person, otherwise I'll organise the handover with my cleaner Liz or leave the keys at the friendly local pub for you to pick up. Otherwise, I'm always just a text, email or phone call away!
There are several great restaurants and pubs, as well as shops and supermarkets, within easy walking distance. Check out my Guidebook!
Famous Portobello Road market is 20 minutes' walk or a short cab ride away.
Canal boat tours along picturesque Regent's Canal leave every hour to world famous London Zoo and Camden Market.
Warwick Avenue station is less than 5 minutes walk away and Paddington Station (and the Heathrow Express) a 12-minute stroll along the canal. I'll also give you the numbers for the local discount taxi company. A black cab to or from central London should cost around £20 - £25.
Smoking is fine on the terrace, but please dispose of your cigarette butts and don't leave them in the plant pots - thanks!
Many thanks to Kate. Best things about staying here are the flexible check in and out arrangements. Aussies and kiwis can get off the long haul flight, walk straight into a good shower and an Aussie cafe down the canal doing coffee our way. It's a God send. Kate provides bedding that high quality, the flat is quiet and private. Kate is a musician who lives a rustic shabby chic life filled with good coffee and a lack of electrical appliances. If you like quality antique meets David Bowie books and down pillows, this place will delight. I'd stay again. She's so accommodating and I felt like I was visiting a relatives apartment. Very appreciative.
We were delighted to have Kate's flat for several days! Everything was just perfect, we felt completely at home, just were sorry not to have met Kate as she was in the US at that time. We highly recommend her flat for everyone! Perfect plus!
Very beautiful and confortable apartment, lovely balcony and views of the canal! Kate was very helpful! The only little handicap: carrying the baby buggy 2 floors because no lift. All in all, a very good experience :)
Great flat, very comfortable, in safe and accessible area. Lovely views of the canal, passing barges and many feathers friends.
Highly recommended and would certainly use in the future.
This was our first airbnb experience and Kate made it very easy. Our communication before hand was very good and I felt confident if there were any problems Kate was just a text message away.
The flat was just as described and everything you could need for your stay. It was clean, comfy and cosy. a delight to return to after a hard days wandering London. I loved the big bed!
The area felt safe. As nature lovers we were really thrilled to be by the canal. It was peaceful and the walk along the canal to the tube was really something to look forward to every morning.
The 'Cool Flat on the Grand Union Canal' gets 10 out of 10!
Thanks Kate ;-)
Absolutely great experience, with a wonderfully detailed list of lodging resources and requests for while we stayed there. Picking up the keys was very easy, and the directions to get to the flat were nice and clear. Thank you so much!
Kate made us feel welcome even before we arrived, and Liz who gave us the keys when we got there was very friendly and helpful. The flat is magnificent with a real personal touch. Clean, tidy and well equipped. We spent lovely mornings having breakfast on the terrace in the warm September sun. There is no traffic and really quiet, just the sound of birds in the canal and people passing by. Easy to find the nearest tube, and just a short walk from Paddington station. I would love to come back, and will recommend it to friends and family who wants to stay in a beautiful part of London.
I'm a friendly New Zealander who's been living in and loving Europe for the last twenty years. With my English partner Jonathan I'm in the lucky position of sharing my time between Paris (where he lives) and London and we love showing our friends around our favourite secret haunts in both cities! He speaks fluent French, I speak fluent German ... cooking and entertaining, reading, travel and the arts are my passions.
