Welcome to La Terraza Guest House. We hope you enjoy your vacation here in San Juan del Sur. We are dedicated to making your stay as pleasant as possible. Please tell us if there is anything that we can do to improve your visit. While here, please observe the following policies.
*Checkout time is 11am. There will be a $15 charge for each additional hour without previous arrangements.
*There is no smoking inside the apartments. Please keep smoking to the balconies and rooftop terrace and do not use dishware for ashtrays.
*Water and power are limited in Nicaragua. Please use sparingly. San Juan del Sur is a town of limited water supply and frequently goes hours or days without running water. To ensure that you have running water 24 hours per day or as much as possible, we provide 2 tanks of water storage. This amount is enough to last us 3 days of water usage with a full house. This is only possible with the help of our guests. Please use water sparingly. We ask that you turn water off while brushing teeth, don’t take extra long showers, let us know if your toilet is running, and be careful of letting excess water run in the kitchen.
* Please try to rinse off as much sand as possible outside so as not to clog our drains.
* Please do not take our towels or sheets outside of the apartment including hanging them over windows or balcony.
I stayed in La Terraza for 5 days. Loved it! As everyone else has stated, the location is perfect! You're close to everything, the super market is small but less then a 2 minute walk. If you fancy some yoga, there is Zen Yoga just around the back of the building. It's perfect.
The first floor apartment is great if you're looking for something simple. A well equipped kitchen, double bedroom with AC and a room with bunk bed, which we didn't use.
There are a number of laundrettes right on the street, but I believe that Katie does offer a laundry service.
Wifi was a little up and down while we were there, but we were on holiday! So who cares!
The shower has good pressure and nice hot water.
There were a couple of times that the electricity went out, but the fuse box is right in the hall so we were happy to do it ourselves.
Katie also sent a driver to the airport for us when we arrived.
Overall we really enjoyed out stay. San Juan is the perfect place to kick back and relax, and Terraza was a great place to do it.
Katie was very friendly. There were other staff around nearly 24 hours a day which is good for security, etc. The location is excellent. The first/ground floor apartment is OK. Despite the name there is no terraza for this apartment.
First, I have to say that this review is actually for the 3rd floor apartment listed by Katie. Due to a double booking, she graciously offered us an upgrade to the 3rd floor instead of the Garden Apartment.
If you are looking for a hotel-like experience, this may not be the apartment for you. The building is a bit dated, but it has a character and charm to it that goes along with it.
The balcony is quite nice, and we spent a lot of time out there, either reading in the hammock, or just people watching with a cup of coffee. We also kept the doors to the balcony open while we were home during the day, which kept a cool breeze blowing through the apartment, but also let in a good amount of dust.
The location in San Juan Del Sur is good if you want to be near all of the action. You can walk to just about anywhere in town in less than 10 minutes, and being just two blocks away from the market meant that we could get our produce pretty easily. Also, there are two small convenience stores right below the apartment and a great pizza place (Mauricio's) right around the corner.
Katie was there to greet us upon arrival, and managed to make a reservation for us at El Timon's cultural night, which we highly recommend. There were a few nice ladies that operated the desk and kept up with the cleaning, etc. that were also very helpful throughout our stay.
There is an ample amount of security and we felt safe during our week-long visit here. Overall, we'd recommend this as an upgrade over the many hostels that are all over SJDS.
I guess the disappointment on my face told the story. Katie was so nice. She did her best to make our stay pleasant. She called someone to fix the AC unit in the bedroom immediately and she had an extra modem installed so we could get internet. She even threw in doing a load of laundry, (an $8 savings). The apartment was not at all what I expected. What hit me first was that it was dirty. I sat in a plastic chair the whole time because the sofa and overstuffed chair were so dirty. The kitchen was dirty, empty beer bottles were in a box sitting in the floor, the faucet barely trickled out any water. The skillets were old, flaking, Teflon, making them unusable. There was only one sheet on the bed, which would have been fine except that my boyfriend wanted the AC on all night. He did get me a sheet off the other bed, that helped. On the bright side, it was located in the heart of San Juan Del Sur and the shower was forceful/tepid - not cold - water. Also, a large jug of drinking water was supplied.
This is the pace to stay if you are in San Juan del Sur. Very nice apartment, everything is walking distance. You are right in town.
It's a very tasteful decorated place. Everything you need is available.
Good mattress and shower which was a nice bonus for us since we are traveling through Nicaragua on a low budget so that felt so wonderful.
San Juan DS is a great little town.
Communication with owners was good. There is basically always someone available in the front part of the house that can answer questions or help out if needed.
Me and my brother stayed in 2 bedroom apartment for 4 nights. There was a nice kitchen with everything we needed. It was clean, with a/c in the bedrooms. Nice living room and great location. No complaints except for the power outages that sometimes happen in SJDS but not the fault of the owner. Would stay here again.
La Terraza was simply in the perfect area! It is close to the beach, close to restaurants & bars, supermarkets, etc. It's really right in the heart of the San Juan del Sur! It also is very quiet for being so close to the "action"! The actual apartment we stayed in was on the first floor and very spacious! I will say that it could use some updating/(email hidden)ever, for the price, you really can't beat it! We felt very safe, so that's nothing to worry about! The woman that we worked with at the office (who also cleaned our kitchen/dishes whenever we asked), was super sweet! Just to note, there is no hot water, but it's really not a problem, the water is naturally a fine temperature :) All in all, it was a great spot for San Juan - Thank you so much for hosting us!!!
