3-bed modern well-insulated family home on 1/2acre, custom-built (2003), 20 miles from Letterkenny through spectacular mountain scenery and Glenveagh National Park, famed for wild deer and golden eagles. 3 dbl bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, solid fuel & solar heating, large K-glass windows, warm all year round.
Poised between the mountains and the sea, this splendid area of the Donegal Gaeltacht is a 15 minute drive from Glenveagh National Park with it's castle and golden eagle colony, or under 10 minutes the other direction brings you to the spectacular Atlantic beaches of Falcarragh's Five Mile Strand and the Tory Island ferry departing from Magheroarty. Don't worry, we couldn't pronounce these names at first either!
All rooms and outbuildings apart from the office and attic which we will use as a store whilst away. Garden, swings, poly tunnel (it's nice to sit in even if you don't grow anything during your stay). Freeview TV, DVD and WiFi. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, and stair gates can be fitted, just let me know.
We won't be there during your stay but are only a phone call or email away. We'd encourage you to share your experiences on social media during your stay and after you go, and we will support you with that.
The Gaeltacht or Irish-speaking culture flourishes here, with regular traditional music sessions in local bars, and live music entertainment at weekends. Nearby Meenaleck, Crolly, is the home to Clannad and Enya's father Leo Brennan, and the pub, Tabhairne Leo, there holds regular music sessions. Further on down the coast, The Viking House is Daniel O'Donnell's former home and centre for visitors
Buses are surprisingly good in this area although remote, with daily services to Derry, Dublin, Belfast, and Galway departing from the town. There is a card with all this info on and local taxi services. There are newly designated cycle paths surrounding the townland of Dunmore. A car is a must for longer trips out but you could stay all week and not use it. Carrickfinn airport operates Dublin and Glasgow services and transport to and fro the airport can be arranged if you wish to arrive that way.
The heating in the house is an eco-friendly solid fuel and solar system which can take a little getting used to at first but will keep you roasting warm winter and summer. There is an electric shower downstairs for convenience and full instructions are left together with a well-stocked fuel shed. During the summer months a little fire in the evenings will be all you need, as the solar panels will heat up the water before you even wake up.
Alan and I have been good friends for over 20 years. Working on musical, media and educational projects together and sharing a passion for Bruce Springsteen and all forms of communication- especially film. I can certainly recommend him as an AIRBNB host. He has his priorities in order- family first and everything else second. He has a beautiful family and is a creative guy normally involved in a whole load of digital and social media projects simultaneously. He is trustworthy and cares about people which makes him an ideal candidate for letting his property out on AIRBNB. I have stayed at Alan's house in Ireland. First thing I'd say is the location is very beautiful is is a very rural and peaceful area. However the house is also close to the beach and the little hamlet of Falcaragh. I have enjoyed nights in the local bars enjoying the craic with the never ending supply of local mystics, writers and folk musicians. Pure authentic Celtic soul- pure genius! The nearest big town is Letterkenny under an hour driving or by local bus. The actual house is very special- as it may be away from city life but has the benefit of being a specially commissioned and designed build. A project Alan managed to his own specifications. He wanted to build a modern house in a rural location that would serve the needs of a modern family- which is exactly what he did. Therefore the house has all the mod cons including wi-fi and lots of glass and wood as well as large rooms with high ceilings in an environmentally friendly design. In short you will be very comfortable in this house. The views around the house are spectacular as you'd expect in this part of Ireland. It is also accessible as Derry airport is a local hub with flights from all over arriving and departing regularly. The airport is about an hour and a half's drive if my memory serves me well. I know Alan to be the kind of nice guy that I would want to rent from as his family values and Celtic spirituality mean you will be genuinely looked after.
