Neighborhood highlights

Things I love about our neighborhood is:
*We are about 5 miles out of Seward, which gives you better chances of seeing wildlife, such as moose and bear. Both of which have been seen in our yard.
*We are within a quarter mile of the fish weir and are able to see spawning salmon in the summer, as well as an occasional brown bear.
*We live on a gravel road with nearby neighbors who are there if you need something.

Lives in Seward, Alaska
We are a couple in our early 50's who moved up to the great state of Alaska in 2013. We were both born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin where we enjoyed anything outdoors: hiking, hunting, fishing, etc. Our dream had always been to move to Alaska, where we can really get involved in the beautiful scenery of a truly great state. Our dream began when the kids were young. We felt we needed to stay near our families for them to grow strong relationships with aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins. As the kids grew up and went to college, we felt it was a good time to live out that dream, and they whole-heartedly agreed. Our time here has been amazing so far. We've been able to see various parts of the state and see many different things we hadn't been lucky enough to see in Wisconsin. Our daughter, Casey her husband Adam and their two labs live here in Seward. She works as a CNA at our local Emergency Room and Adam is a building contractor. Our son, Jake, is an engineer living in Montana with his wife, Brianna who is in the environmental science field. We have a dog, Brooks, who is an Alaskan Husky (Sled Dog) and loves to pull and hike. We like to stay active by hiking different trails in the area, as well as fishing, and hunting. We're more than happy to give advice or information of good places to see, eat, and visit in the area. Doug is currently the construction instructor at AVTEC (Alaska Vocational Technical School). He enjoys being able to help students learn a trade that will always come in handy. He's able to build relationships and make some great friends through his job. I(Kris) work at the local hospital, helping register patients in the ER and working in the billing department. The hospital is very small, with only 8 beds total. I really enjoy the friends I've made and seeing some of the interesting things that come into the ER, especially during the summer season. We first purchased this cabin in the spring of 2014. We lived in the 200 sq. ft. place with a total of 3 people and 1 dog as we built our permanent home in our free time. It took about a year to fully complete the new house. The next project was to fix up the little place and here it is, now a rental cabin! One thing to know about us is that we can't sit still. It's basically one project after another, which we really enjoy doing. Some of our favorite things are hiking, fishing, hunting, movies, popcorn, campfires, and grilling out. We enjoy trying new things and meeting new people. We'd like to help people get the same amazing experience we get on a daily basis. Even if you only stay a day or two, you'll be able to see and experience how amazing the area is and what people like so much about it. Our family quote for several years has been, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~Mark Twain
