About This Listing
co.space: the home for changemakers
The (website hidden) is a global network of co-living spaces for world-changers. The flagship home is based in State College, PA and is home to 20 residents comprising a mix of students and young professionals. The home is in the heart of downtown State College and a 5 minute walk to Penn State campus. The residents living there have been carefully selected as some of the most driven, passionate and curious individuals we could find who share a passion for entrepreneurship, sustainability and innovation (amongst other things). For more information about the home, please visit www-thecospace-com.
Located in the home is a single room dedicated for visitors. This room allows others to connect to the home during short stays and contribute their knowledge, skills, and wisdom to the community. The room is 400 sq ft and includes a twin daybed, pop-up trundle, desk and closet space. The room has a private bathroom on the second floor (and as you can see from the pictures, it is a bathroom unlike most you have probably used). The room is themed as a cave and the stairway leading to your private room is designed to resemble the inside of a mining shaft.
This is a rare and unique opportunity for Penn State alumni, guest professors, and visitors to State College who hope to connect with some of the top students and young professionals in the area and get a glimpse of where the community is heading.
As a guest of the home, you have full use of the kitchen and any communal food. The kitchen is fully stocked with commercial-grade equipment and we occasionally have large community dinners - so if the timing aligns, you are welcome to join us!
Interaction with Guests
We do everything we can to make your stay an enjoyable one. If you are looking to make connections with members of the community or faculty at Penn State, we are happy to offer our network to you. When you arrive, we'll show you the house and then help you get situated. Often times if you are looking for a good place to eat, someone in the house will be more than likely to go with you and show you around.
Everything is incredibly walkable.
Be Awesome. Contribute to Other's Ideas. Leave Inspired.
The (website hidden) is an opportunity for people who want to make the world a better place to live and convene. As a guest, we simply ask that you contribute to that energy in your own unique way.
We love the cospace members, the house, the vertical farm, international research, and the BEES!
I will be a new faculty member in September and this was the ideal place for us to stay to feel connected to the community. Easy going new faculty members should consider it as a great way to get in touch with students and young professionals.
We stayed for a week at the cospace in April and when we came back to house hunt, we stayed again. We loved the cave in April but when we came back for this trip we felt very spoiled with the new air conditioning, Kuerig, bedding, and decorating.
The folks living in this house have strong visions of where they are going and how their work will change the world. It is contagious. I walk away from hanging out with them with a renewed sense of purpose and ability.
We hope that the members of the house will invite us back for their events and that they will call on us if they need our talents for their projects. We were interested in contributing to these visions, stating with the living interiors project!
The room was quite clean, in a nice neighborhood, and was accurate to the listing. Would recommend to a friend. Always love a stay in this Airbnb location.
My son and I had a great time. Everything was as described. We stayed for 3 days for a volleyball tournament and had a great time. Most of the people were away for the holiday so we had the place to ourselves.
Stayed over Graduation weekend. Walking distance to town. Host gave me recommendations for dinner (since we couldn't get reservations anywhere). We were able to take advantage of that info and had a great time. Bed Very comfortable. Neat Looking Shower.
Thanks so Much!!!!
We had a great time. From the moment we arrived we felt extremely welcomed. Everyone who lives there was very gracious to help us out in any way. The location is great for those looking to enjoy all that Penn State has to offer and is a short walk to everything.
We really can't say enough good things about the Changemakers! Spud and Galen were incredible hosts. They provided all the information we needed to have a great (email hidden)(website hidden) and to begin our lives in State College. We enjoyed getting to know them, their friends, colleagues, and BODI!
The shower in the cave was fun and creative and we enjoyed the hike up the mountain (stairs) to the room. The coal mine theme is fun.
As an incoming faculty member at PSU, staying here was exactly what I needed. The space gave me the sense of being back in graduate school after years of working for the government. The energy and urgency of the missions of the students and professionals increased the amperage on my own sense of purpose.
We think we engaged with every member of the household. We were invited to dinner on Wednesday night. That helped us to further bond with those we met. The composers concert on Monday night was outstanding (I am now a Shane Henderson fan).
Thanks to Katie, Hayley, Dustin, & Julien, Jean-Philippe and I feel like we know where to go to find fuel for our various passions. In fact everyone contributed to our feeling of welcome in State College.
We will be back for more house hunting in June and we hope you will have us back in your community.
Spud and Galen invited us to the house dinner and everyone else said hi when they spotted us in town and on campus. Everyone was curious about why we had come to SC and how we had found the house.
About the Host, Spud & Dustin
Hi, my name is Spud and I am the Chief Catalyst for the (website hidden) (www-thecospace-com), an international network of homes for changemakers founded in State College, PA. I find myself to be an avid connector, relentless optimist and serial entrepreneur in the social innovation field. Aside from my work with the (website hidden), I enjoy facilitating and coaching emerging social entrepreneurs and work with universities and foundations around the country. Apart from these organizations that keep me well-occupied, I have a slight obsession with fog machines and hate wearing shoes. Whenever I get a free second, I love getting outside to enjoy what central PA has to offer (hiking, soccer, frisbee golf, ultimate, volleyball, etc). But I have been known to wander and enjoy traveling around the world in search of the next great breakthroughs and the people behind them leading change in the world.
I am joined by fellow co.spacer, Dustin Betz, who serves as one of the dedicated State College House Managers. Dustin is the Founder and President of GreenTowers, an urban agricultural and environmental design company that specializes in creating self-contained polycultures (aquaponics).
Between the two of us, we are more than happy to welcome you to our town and make your stay relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable!
