About this listing
The co-space is an intentional community of 20 young changemakers. We are home to driven undergraduate students, self-directed learners and experienced young professionals, ages 18-35, all living under one roof.
The co-space is a renovated 1920’s boarding home in the heart of State College. Unlike any other property in the region, it has been designed to support and encourage creativity, community, and innovation. Among other things, you will find indoor beehives, living walls, indoor rock climbing walls, and recording studios. The property has a wrap-around porch, perfect for enjoying warm evenings on.
THE GUEST ROOM:
Our guest room is located in the rear of the home, accessible through a ‘cave staircase’ near the back door by the kitchen. At the top of the stairs on the second floor, you’ll find the private bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom is 200 sqft and includes a twin daybed, pop-up trundle, desk and closet space. The room has plenty of space for a single visitor. If traveling with a partner, you can pop the trundle bed up for a second mattress.
All residents of the co-space have been carefully selected through an application process to find those deeply committed to living in community and fully pursuing their changemaking journeys. Co-spacers have a wide-range of interests, including sustainability, entrepreneurship, innovation, healthy living. To learn more about some of our housemates, please visit our website at www-thecospace-com.
MEALS AND ACTIVITIES:
Every Sunday and Wednesday we join together for a house meal at 7pm. This is a time to reconnect as a family and invite community members into our home to share their journey with us. If you happen to be staying with us on one of these days, we would love for you to join us! We also have occasional events and activities in the home – such as house concerts or local meet-ups.
As our guest, you’ll have full use of the kitchen and the basics of pots, pans, and dishes. The common areas are all accessible to guests, including the living rooms, dining room, and basement. We simply ask that guests not use the second and third floor where residents have their bedrooms.
Interaction with Guests
We will do all we can to make you feel welcomed! Our House Managers will be your point-of-contact during your stay in case you need anything.
We are in the heart of State College and a quick 5-10 minute walk to most things downtown.
From our house, it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the steps of Old Main at Penn State. Walking is the easiest if you are planning to do anything in the downtown area. Otherwise, you can get to most places in State College by car in 10 minutes.
Other Things to Note
As an intentional community, we ask that all potential guests please READ the House Rules to best understand what type of individuals we prefer to host in the home. When inquiring to book a stay in our guest room, we will ask you if you’ve read over all the House Rules.
SMOKE-FREE / DRUG-FREE / ALCOHOL-FREE
We strive to be a safe space that supports one another to pursue healthy lifestyles. Out of respect for other’s triggers and journeys, we do not allow smoking or drugs on the property. Guests who smoke may do so outside the home. Similarly, our home is not for individuals looking to visit State College and get drunk. We understand that people want to have a good time, and State College is often a place to reconnect with old college friends, but if your primary focus is to drink and party during your visit, please choose a different airbnb location. We do not tolerate guests that come home drunk as it creates an unhealthy environment for our residents.
CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT
Our official check-in time is at 3pm and check-out at 11am. However, assuming there are no guests directly before or after your arrival, we are happy to accommodate your schedule and let you leave later at night.
The core of our intentional community is built upon everyone being fully present in the home. At any moment, residents will be at different steps on their personal journeys, but we all strive to be honest and authentic with each other as to what we need from the community.
In the spirit of openness and intentionality, as a guest in our home, we ask that you share with us:
1) The intent behind your trip and visit to State College, and
2) The intent for why you specifically want to stay at the co-space. What excites you about living in this home?
Please share these intentions with us when inquiring to stay with us. Thanks!
Hi, we're Harshil and Shelby, the two House Managers for the co.space! (www-thecospace-com). We refer to the co.space as the home for changemakers and are based in State College, PA. There are 20 of us that live here year-round, and we have a variety of skills and interest - from sustainable agriculture to social entrepreneurship to community service.
More about Harshil: I spend my days working on my company Fitsoul.life, a mindfulness brand. I'm a fitness trainer, lifestyle enthusiast, uber driver and make it my goal to read one book a week!
More about Shelby: I work for Calvary Church doing local outreach, that is: hanging out with the homeless, those in jail, and coordinating service projects mostly. Two random things I really love are picnics and carpooling.
Between the two of us, we are more than happy to welcome you to our town and make sure your stay is relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable! Harshil has recently taken over for Dustin Betz who was our past House Manager (in case you see past reviews referring to Dustin).
