Brownstone in Harlem w/ wonderful fenced backyard and patio (barbecue, hammock, deck furniture, flowers, etc.)
There is a park across the street w/ basketball courts, swimming pool (open June - Labor Day), chess tables, dog run, baseball diamond Richard Rogers amphitheater (hosts annual Charlie Parker jazz festival), giant hill w/ bell tower, wild natural flora.
You have a furnished room to yourself w/ a queen bed (sleeps 2). Bedroom is sunny w/ east-facing window, has a bedside table and chair. It is a small bedroom. Shared bathroom (only 1 in apt). Towels & amenities available.
Additional guests may sleep on a futon in the sunroom. The sunroom is a glass room between the backyard and the main house. It is a partially-private room and provides access to the backyard. The futon sleeps 1 adult or 2 kids. In the summer, it is too hot in the sunroom so the futon will be moved to the living room.
Pets allowed -- I don't have any but would gladly welcome yours
Laundromat nearby -- pick-up/drop-off wash & fold service available
Famous Apollo Theater and Red Rooster around the corner as well as many other amazing Harlem shops, bars, restaurants, & iconic jazz spots. (I will direct you to all of them!)
Public transport is FANTASTIC. See details below -- you can basically get anywhere in Manhattan fast. We're right next to so many subway lines.
There is street parking (non-reserved). There tend to be plenty of spots available on our street.
Parties greater than 2 people are welcome for short-term stays (~less than 2 weeks).
Long-term stays (1-mo+): Please understand that the apartment (though a 2-bedroom) is quite small and not suitable for larger groups on a long-term basis. Preferably, I would like to have only a single person for any stays that are one month or longer. 1-mo+ guests should supply their own shower amenities & breakfast.
I love to host guests and will do everything I can to make your stay special. :)
Handicap accessible -- we are on the ground floor so no stairs.
Family/kid friendly -- playground, pool, etc. across the street
Smoking -- allowed outdoors, not inside
Pets allowed -- I love pets!
Early-morning departure/late-night arrival is not a problem.
The kitchen is totally available for your use but the oven is not currently working. The stove-top, however, is fine. We don't cook a lot (I'm embarrassed to say!) so much of the refrigerator is available for your use.
Occasionally I am gone for the weekend and am comfortable having you stay in the apt alone.
Your profile should include a pic + offline validation.

The cleaning fee covers professional laundering of all bed sheets and blankets before your arrival/after your departure.
Please note that this is not a hotel room or commercially-furnished/commercially-cleaned apartment. It is an apartment where I live, cook, invite friends, etc. Your situation will be more like that of a temporary roommate, not that of a hotel guest. I love to hang out w/ new people and look forward to getting to know you in a fun, casual environment. I like to keep the apartment tidy & am conscientious about noise etc. -- I want you to be comfortable! But if you are looking for a hotel-like airbnb experience, please book elsewhere.
Though it's less than likely, I reserve the right to accommodate other guests in the sunroom or in my room (when I go on vacation) on a short-term basis, not resulting in a discounted price on the main bedroom. Please ask beforehand if you have any questions.
Please be aware that you are booking a room in Harlem. According to the stats, you are actually safer in Harlem than in Times Square. But those who are not familiar with the pace of uptown lifestyle may be better off booking a room in more familiar surroundings. I have had only pleasant experiences in my neighborhood and feel totally comfortable walking to/from the subway at night and taking my friends and family members around the neighborhood. There are many people in the park and on the street who are there every single day and it truly is a community. Of course, you should take reasonable precautions at night no matter where you are in the city. But if you don't think you'll be comfortable in Harlem, please book elsewhere.
Annie was a really nice host. Although we arrived very late at night (about 11:15 pm) she was still there to welcome us and we had a really nice conversation with her.
She gave us the keys and after our arrival we did not really see each other again because she left in the mornings and we slept in both nights. The day we left we just left her key in the appartment and were free to leave whenever we wanted to without having to meet up again.
The appartment is small, but warm and welcoming. We were four people and had one big bed for two people and two of us slept on the couch but I would not recommend that since the couch is pretty small for two people.
All in all a nice place to stay, never felt unsafe in the area and had a good time there!
I had a great stay in Harlem! Me and my friends have never been and where hesitant to stay anywhere other than a hotel but I loved it! The area was a little sketchy at night but we where in a group so we didn't have a problem. There was parking always available and the food and shopping near this area was AMAZING! Will definitely come back!
(Ps she was very accommodating, although she was away on vacation, she always had time to answer my questions or check in!
Thanks till next time :)
My friend Sen and I had a blast staying in Annie's wonderful Sunny Harlem Apartment. Annie even went out and brought a space heater to keep my room nice and toasty during a cold snap. She made sure we were very well looked after and took time to introduce us to some of her cool neighbors. Harlem is suited to the more adventurous and there is an eclectic mix of people found here. Annie's place is close to shopping/dining/subways and bus stops. Thanks Annie you're a real Gem the life of the party. Tony & Sen...
The place is perfect, small but nice. The street is very quiet and Annie is a great host.
Annie and her apt were both fantastic! She was able to accommodate me AND my dog at the last minute. The apt was spacious and clean, the bed was comfy with fresh linens, and the location was perfect! There is a great park right across the street, parking was super easy, and you can get a cab very quickly. Or hop on the subway since it's very close.
Bottomline: Everything about my stay was excellent and I'll definitely stay again next time I visit the city! Thanks Annie!
Absolutly great place to stay in! Short way to downtown, quiet and friendly neighbourhood. The apartment is cozy with fantastic patio. Annie is very helpfull! We strongly recommend!
We stayed with Annie for a night when all else failed. She was very forthcoming not just in terms of renting her apartment but also in getting to know the alternate side of New York. Our meeting place with her was a broadway show where she helped us to get discounted tickets. Her apartment is cozy and has a wonderful backyard. If your looking at staying with an interesting host with endless rounds of beer over great conversation, Annie is your girl!
Annie is a great host and very accommodating. She is so friendly and hospitable. She gave us ALOT of info on places to go. The location couldnt be better, you can get everywhere by a short walk to the east or west since there are subways in both directions. The area is completely safe and the people around the area are so friendly, dont let the old rep of Harlem be the reason for not staying with Annie. Thank you for everything, hope to stay with you again :)
Annie welcomed us in her cute apartment in the heart of Harlem. The apartment is very clean and cosy, Annie gave us lots of tip to go out and visit the neighborhood. Very nice experience.
The Sunny Harlem Hangout ist an absolutly great place to stay in NYC! It's 30 Minutes to downtown and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby aswell. Annie is very helpfull, so we strongly recommend her and her cozy appartement!
