It is in fact a very old little house which was a part of the abbey in the Middle Age. You moreover have to borrow the monumental gate of the abbey to reach it in the little street where are the workshops of the Chartreuse !

The Space

Charming little independent studio located in the heart of the medieval village of Villeneuve-les-Avignon, situated only 5 minutes away just across the “Pont d’Avignon” from the vibrant city. It is a typical Provencal style house of good standing; the area is beautiful and peaceful, right next to the entrance of the historical Abbey.

Composed of 1 main room, there are 1 comfortable "Ikéa" sofa double bed (140 x 200, compound of 2 spring mattresses of 70 x 200 interconnected in their length by a zipper), and a second one (140 x 190), wardrobe, washing machine, independent entry door, private bathroom with an italian shower and some kitchen appliances, TV and Wi-Fi, Air-conditionning system.

In the village of Villeneuve, you will find many shops, restaurants, bakeries, and a typical Provencal market on Thursday and Saturday.

It suits a couple or a family with 2 kids perfectly. It can accommodate up to 4 people or 2 couples (notice there are 2 double beds only).
All sheets and towels are included.
Basic products are available in the kitchen.
Cleaning is included (at end of the stay).

On request, we will be more than happy to provide a historical visit of the nearby Abbey CHARTREUSE (Marc is a voluntary free guide in English & Italiano)

If needed, we can pick you up at the 2 Avignon train stations (10 minutes away)

Restaurants: in Villeneuve, there is a wide range of great restaurants.

  • We love Marc & Martine's place. We stayed 4 nights using the studio flat as a base to explore the surrounding countryside. They are 1.5 miles from Avignon so you can walk it (but hot in June) or drive closer and park for free. The wine country is all around and if you are around on a Saturday, then get up fairly early and drive 50 minutes to Uzés park in the underground car park in the town centre and make your way down the hill and find a boulangerie. Buy your breakfast there and eat it the French way at a local outdoor café. The market is simply amazing. It finishes around lunch time, so head back stopping off at Point du Gare - the incredible Roman viaduct. Pick up lunch at the main restaurant, explore the sights and be sure to bring flip flops, swimming gear and a towel and you can cool off in the river. Marc kindly provided a 50% discount voucher from his role as a guide at the local medieval monastery, just 100 metres from the studio.

Studio is compact but fully equipped with great washing machine and essentials such a butter, milk, salad dressing, jams and best of all, a bottle of Marc's great white wine.

Good selection of restaurants all around, but do treat yourself to the best - literally just around the corner.

Would have no hesitation of booking again as it's a great combination of comfort, convenience and price.

  • This little house was a perfect home during our stay in Villeneuve les Avignon. It is comfortable for two people and well-equipped for basic daily needs, including a bottle of wine and a garden in which to enjoy it. The location is ideal: Restaurants and shopping essentials are minutes away by foot, the bus to Avignon is not far and freeway access for day trips is fairly easy. Parking can be tricky in the evenings, but patience pays. Marc and Martine, the hosts, are delightful and happy to offer suggestions for exploring the area. Marc's knowledge of history of the neighboring Chartreuse is amazing!

  • Marc was a very gracious host. He picked us up at the train station and made sure that we were comfortable and knew about the apartments and its amenities. He was very helpful with providing information and assistance with the traveling. The little charming house is indeed very charming and sweet; we absolutely enjoyed its location (next to the historical Chartreuse) and loved the beautiful garden with flowers, vines and fountain. We had several breakfasts and a dinner at the garden. Villeneuve-les-Avignon is a very unique little town with old world charm; we would love to return there someday. It was an unforgettable experience; thank you very much Marc for your hospitality.

  • We had high expectations when we booked with Marc & Martine and I'm happy to report that the experience was even better. The house was indeed charming on several levels. It was nicely furnished and fully stocked and equipped with everything we needed for meals inside or outside in the lovely garden patio. The original painting by Klein (a friend of Marc) is a treat too.

The house is very private and quiet. And it's just a few minutes walk from the village patisserie, several really nice restaurants, and the historic sights of Villeneuve. We could easily get into Avignon (5 minute bus ride) and it was the perfect home base for day trips. Parking was no problem near the cottage either.

And while Martine was away so we didn't get to meet her, Marc was one of the best hosts in our Airbnb experience. He met us at the train station, welcomed us with some of his own, delicious Chateauneuf du Pape wine and snacks on the patio, informed us about the rich history of Villeneuve (he's a volunteer tour guide) provided much local knowledge and maps about Provence and was genuinely concerned that every part of our stay was as good as it could be.

We highly recommend Marc and this charming house in Villeneuve.

    Merci Marc
