The Space

Langcliffe House is situated in a quiet corner of Kettlewell and enjoys possibly the best views from the village looking south down Upper Wharfedale. This is home to Chris and Susan Beazley who have lived in this large stone Edwardian house with their children since 2001. From the day we moved in, we have shared our wonderful home with friends and family and now would like to welcome you as our guests to simply be here and maybe be inspired by your stay with us.
Guests are accommodated in two double bedded rooms with en suite shower and facilities. Bedlinen is high thread count Egyptian cotton and pillows and duvets are hypoallergenic. Fluffy bath sheets, hand towels and dressing gowns are provided with complimentary organic toiletries. Our clean, colourful rooms have free WiFi, comfy tub chairs, a TV with DVD, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. A delicious breakfast is served in the Dining Room from 8am-9am each morning, though we will make sure that early birds are catered for too! Our conservatory is exclusively available for our guests to enjoy the sublime views of God’s own dale and on warm, sunny days you can step outside and make use of our large, productive garden. A welcome cup of tea and cake or biscuits will be served either in the conservatory or garden on your arrival. As we do not have a licence, we are happy for you to bring your own wine to enjoy in the conservatory or garden too (please not in the bedrooms). A first floor gallery with Susan’s paintings and ceramics has seating, books and magazines, maps and local information plus DVDs and games to borrow.
Kettlewell is in the heart of Upper Wharfedale and the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is a marvellous base from which to explore this internationally renowned area. The Dales Way long distance footpath passes behind Langcliffe House B&B as it comes into Kettlewell from the south and the Dales Cycleway passes through the village. We even have a garage in the village for those arriving by car in need of petrol. The village has featured in films and TV programmes and has many facilities for hungry and thirsty tourists: the three pubs all offer evening meals, there are two tea rooms and an ice cream parlour. The Village Stores can provide essentials including packed lunches or a bottle of wine!
You can be assured of a very warm, yet discreet welcome to our lovely home from two colourful personalities with a wealth of experiences we are willing to share with guests.

  • We absolutely loved our stay with Susan in the Yorkshire Dales. Susan's place is very beautiful, tidy and she went out of her way to make us feel at home, and indeed we did. Her art work adds a lovely dimension to her house and comfort. Room and overall house has beautiful views throughout, and the breakfast was just wonderful. She advised us on places to go walking and in the evening we shared travel stories over a glass of wine.
I would absolutely stay with Susan again, she was such a great host.

About
Having graduated with a 1st class degree in Psychology (Bristol University), I joined a graduate-training scheme in a London advertising agency. I spent 10 years from 1976 at Saatchi and Saatchi, rising to board level and running a large client service group. By 1991 I was running the London office of a multi-national advertising agency. After the birth of my third child, I became a joint partner in a strategic communications and issues research business. By 2001, the conflicting demands of career, home and three pre-pubescent children were no longer reconcilable. I gave up work, relocated to the Yorkshire Dales and finally I allowed myself to discover my creative side. I started studying and making ceramics, later undertaking a Foundation Course at a local college. After walking the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 2003, I realised that I wanted to focus on life painting. I have taken classes with several artists, locally, in London, Spain and France, to whom I owe much. My paintings reflect my sense of the essential nature of the people and landscapes that attract me with their individuality and natural beauty. My passion is celebrating the human landscape in all its conditions; particularly women, their body image and the woman within. I use professional life models, but prefer to ask ordinary women (and men) to sit for me. The process provides an arena for quiet discussion where there is no judgement and we celebrate that person’s beauty and acknowledge their individual attractiveness. Modelling becomes a form of healing. I try and capture each person's inner and outer beauty and the values and personality that make them shine uniquely.
