We had such a fantastic time in Queenstown, thanks to Alex and Judith. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts, who were always able to offer suggestions and advice when we needed it, along with snow reports on our ski days! (And they make delicious hot breakfasts too!)
The accommodation itself is perfect. Well spaced rooms with all the amenities you would need. We stayed in Room 5 and had spectacular views of both the lake and Remarkables from our window - it was a pleasure to wake up to that view each morning. The location is great, it's about a 5-10 minute easy stroll into town plus a bus stop close by if you need to venture further afield.
I would absolutely recommend Chalet Queenstown and will definitely stay here again when back in NZ!
Great place to stay in Queenstown. Nice clean room with a view of the mountains, very comfortable bed. The hosts Lexus and Jude could not have been more accomodations and helpful. We had an early tour the morning after our arrival and Jude offered to have breakfast ready for us 45 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. The breakfast was delicious and the presentation superb. Walking distance to town. No more than 10 minutes walking leisurely. Free parking available in their driveway. Would stay there again.
What a find! With the fluffy robes and quality bed linen this bnb feels more like a hotel, but with the personal welcome of a chalet. The rooms are lovely - comfortable and well appointed. The location is very good, a short walk into town. We stayed for one night, on New Years Eve and when we returned to the chalet that night there was a large selection of beer, wine, sparkling wine and cheese and crackers, courtesy of the chalet team to wish us a happy new year! We thought this was a lovely touch.
Breakfast was fantastic, and throughout our stay Alex and Jude were chatty and helpful. We'll definitely be returning!
the Chalet was fantastic. The rooms, although small, are set up expertly. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms very clean and user friendly and the view from my window/terrace was of the lake and mountains. Jude was there most of my stay and she was a pleasure offering great information or just having a conversation. And the breakfast each morning was above and beyond what I expected. I will stay there again.

About the Host, Alex
Chalet Queenstown was in a state of disrepair when Alex and John took it over in December 2007. At that time a quick paint job was all that could be done in order to operate during the 07/08 Summer season. A ‘refurbishment’ began in September 2008 but, due to building regulations and other requirements associated with new buildings, the Chalet has practically been rebuilt. .
The Chalet’s interior bears little resemblance to the property Alex and John took over – a new internal staircase, disabled room and facilities, new decking/patio area, balconies attached to each room, one extra guest room, a new dining room and guest lounge and entirely new furnishings, fixtures and fittings.
It’s a testament to John and Alex’s belief in the future of Queenstown’s tourism industry and they have breathed new life into one of the town’s most iconic properties. They also own the Historic Stone House on Hallenstein Street, built in 1874 for the Mayor of Queenstown and is a unique property listed with the New Zealand Heritage Trust.
