Of the three places we stayed in Hawaii, this was our favorite. It is a beautiful suite with excellent accessibility to Waikiki.
There is currently construction in the area that can be bothersome during the day, but at night, the neighborhood is very quiet.
The ground is uneven, which might be difficult for some.
The entrance is off a patio in the gated side yard. There is a gas BBQ on the patio that we didn't use.
The sliding glass door is big and a bit heavy. It lets in a lot of natural light.
The wood floor is beautiful, the living room entrance is large (for two people) and well laid out. The living room opens into full kitchen with a large refrigerator, a full electric range and oven, and a beautiful circular glass table that seats four.
We cooked all our breakfasts and a couple dinners and found the kitchen more than adequate. The table is a bit large for the space and stayed pushed against the wall. For two people, there was plenty of space. For three or four, it might be quite crowded.
The bedroom was a tight fit for the queen bed, having only about a foot on each side and 4 or 5 feet at the foot. There was no closet space, just a bar in the corner with a wicker and wood bench below. There is no bedroom door.
The bathroom fixtures and decorations were beautiful.
Air circulation can be a problem. When you leave, you must make sure that every window is open (there are a lot of them) and the bathroom door is open. To use the air conditioning, every window shut, except the bathroom window, the bathroom door kept shut and the fan that stands in the kitchen corner moved so that it blows into the bedroom. We found that setting the thermostat to 75 or 76, while we slept, worked well (I think the temperature was a bit cooler than that).
Our hosts were quite busy with their business, but were extremely attentive to email.
Really liked staying with Marcos and Michelle! They were awesome, accommodating, and consistently went above and beyond! The unit was located in a nice neighborhood, close to everything that I wanted, and the hosts were great!!
Bed was comfortable and had extra blankets. Bathroom close by and had a full kitchen with full sized (website hidden) was strategically located in front of a comfy couch.
Mahalo Marcos & Michelle!!!
We barely saw the host, but our few interactions were friendly. The shady mother-in-law style apartment (not a cottage) was clean, efficient, well-stocked, comfortable bed, and had a very lovely shaded patio. Overall, it had a very nice feel and was restful, but don't expect a touristy Hawaii experience. No access or view of water/beach. Located 100ft down a driveway from a busy 4-lane divided highway, there was constant low-level road noise, but not bad at night. Driving access was frustrating at times due to divided highway and no-left-turn and no-U-turn signs everywhere. Walkable to groceries, bank, P.O., a couple restaurants, and other local shopping. Easy walk to a small park/beach great for picnics, sunbathing, and snorkeling, but NOT swimming or wading barefoot. Easy drive to Waikiki, Hanauma Bay, airport, and elsewhere. Would I stay there again? Yes, if my purpose was work or visiting friends in the area, but not for a Hawaii vacation experience.
Had a great stay at the cottage. Very clean, and has all the necessities for a long stay in Hawaii. (Beach towels included!)
Marco and Michele are great hosts, very helpful and friendly while also allowing for privacy.
We had a lovely time staying at the Aloha cottage which was located quite close to a remote beach complete with beautiful sunrises. The place was comfortable and quiet and was conveniently located away from busy city centers yet close to Hanauma Bay, a excellant spot for first-time snorkelers. Host Michele Santos also owns a nearby yoga studio and kindly offered my wife and I a complementary 'hot-yoga' session which was a perfect jetlag lag antidote.
The Aloha Cottage is just the right distance from Waikiki and Hanamua Bay. It was a nice change from the "high rise" rooms in Waikiki. The full kitchen and barbecue saves a lot of money eating out. It was a short trip to either Costco or Foodland for supplies which was nice. Michelle is very gracious and provides privacy. All in all it was a great choice.
