About This Listing
Welcome to the Pilsen Art House! We offer private rooms, and shared rooms in a vibrant neighborhood in Chicago. PLEASE NOTE: The listing is for a cot in a gallery room, SHARED space (not a private room). Please read on to learn more!
Thank you for visiting our listing. PLEASE read the entire listing before booking.
This listing is for a SINGLE PRIVATE ROOM, NOT THE ENTIRE APARTMENT. The common areas are shared: living room/eating area, kitchen and bathroom. You would be renting ONE private bedroom in an apt with two other private room rentals.
Awesome artist building in Pilsen, directly next door to the National Museum of Mexican Art, and Harrison Park!
The vibe of the Pilsen Art House is similar to a hostel, but with ONLY private rooms! You will have the opportunity to meet other travelers if you desire, or have as much privacy as you desire.
*** PLEASE NOTE: Lorie and Mike do not live here full time, but we have live in hosts and provide lots of helpful info and awesome advice on what to see and do in the city. **
**THE Pilsen Art House is an OLD building, with lots of quirks/(we call character and charm), but is wonderfully welcoming, safe and fun.
We find that guests who enjoy staying with us are those that truly enjoy interacting with other guests. So don't be afraid to chat with your flat mate, share a story, grab a meal together, explore our wonderful city together, if you're inclined. Certainly, guests can have as much privacy as they like, but be aware when booking there are many guests who come and go so if you seek a place with no other people around, this would not be a good fit for you. If you are seeking a quieter floor, we recommend the second or third floor (the first floor tends to be busier, as its our host floor and in general tends to be busier). We are also very happy to bring guests out with us when we are able.
We are always adding new art to our building, so it wont be unusual to see an artist painting away on any given day in the living room, kitchen, or hallway.
Often referred to at the "Harry Potter room", THIS ROOM IS TINY, measuring approximately 6ft x 4ft fitting a bed about the size of a massage table and small side table. The roof is slanted, so the room appears smaller and there is NO window PLEASE be aware when booking that the price of the room reflects the size of the room.
This room is on the first floor.
No breakfast is offered at the art house.
Old Czech style buidling, typical of the area from years back when the now mostly Hispanic neighborhood, was primarily Czech. The very high ceilings gives the apt a lofted appearance, large windows, small, basic kitchen and color, color, color abounds in the Pilsen Art House.
NOTE ON KEY RETURN: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RETURN KEYS.
The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, coffee maker, blender, kettle, pots, pans, dishes, etc. As our guest, you are invited to use anything you need.
We offer three floors of private rooms in the Pilsen Art House. Each floor houses an apt with three bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen/eating area and living room. Each room is colorful, cozy, inviting, and very comfortable and private. Murals painted on all the walls make it fun, whimsical, and good conversation piece.
The neighborhood of Pilsen, is directly west of downtown Chicago, accessible via Pink line, which is two short blocks away. It will take you to all the attractions of downtown Chicago in less than 10 minutes! Pilsen itself is an interesting, dynamic, and magnetic neighborhood in it's own rite...full of artists, murals painted on sides of buildings, coffee houses, galleries, bakeries, vintage stores, mexican candy shops, and the National Museum of Mexican Art is right next door and FREE!!!
Pilsen Art House is a short walk to 15 restaurants, Harrison Park with indoor pool, baseball field, soccer field and basketball courts,
Mike and I are very familiar with the city, and are happy to give you suggestions/advise on how to be a savvy visitor in Chicago with tips on cheap (but delicious) eats, discount days at museums, free festivals in the summer, etc.

Pilsen Art House guests have access to the living room, kitchen, bathroom and back garden (ask us to show you how to access the garden!).
Interaction with Guests
We like to allow guest their privacy if desired, but we are always accessible via text/phone. There is plenty of opportunity to meet other travelers while staying at the Pilsen Art House or Colorwheel apt. We often host get togethers in the garden which is fully accessible to all guests.

Great place in a great neighbourhood.
The room is tiny but good to sleep in. Loved to stay there
What an amazing place! The room was as small as the price, and that was more than fair! It was warm and comfortable, exactly what I needed. The whole place has a very unique, artistic atmosphere to it, many people around and I have to emphasize it: all of them extremely friendly, and open and welcoming. Lorie is a great host and all the residents were amazing, and through this review I would like to thank you guys! These people are not there by accident, they obviously love meeting new people and they appreciate how important the social part of traveling is. Feels like home.
As someone below pointed out, the wi-fi doesn't really work well in the room, but what I did was just sitting with my laptop in the kitchen and while surfing the internet, meeting people and talking to them.
The area may seem sketchy, but really is not. It's mostly Hispanic neighborhood, close to downtown by Pink Line, which is a couple of minutes on foot. A lot of great small and relatively cheap family restaurants around. I would strongly recommend to explore them while you're in Chicago.
It was my first time in town and I loved my experience - to a large extent thanks to the accommodation I chose. If I'm in Chicago again, I know where to go :).

About the Host, Lorie
Hello everyone! It's Lorie, Mike, Holden and Kyle.
We are a unique family unit who loves traveling, meeting new people, and doing as many interesting things as we can. We started Airbnb'ing after years of Couchsurfing experience, so we know how to make a guest feel at home!
We have two properties now: my Oak Park home, and our place in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
If you do choose to stay with us, we will ensure you are well oriented to the city and know how to get wherever you need to go. We are also very active in the city, so if you're here to see Chicago, we can give you information on where to go to experience art, music, culture, parties, fun events, festivals, and anything else this fine city has to offer.
Look forward to meeting you.
