Kristina was a great host. She was very responsive and friendly. Her home is very lovely and homey. Walkable to the aquarium and canary row. Plenty of space and a full kitchen for your family.
Everything was as expected. As most reviews stated the house and decor is dated but everything was clean and functional. Communications with host and getting in the house was fine.
All was clean and tidy when we arrived. The electric blankets were a plus as it was as cold as it gets in Monterey during our stay.
The listing was very accurate and the neighborhood was super quiet. It was just what our family was looking for on this short trip. Walking to the Aquarium was fast and easy to find.
We spent 4 days/3 nights there. It is a lovely house and was everything my family and I needed. The house is decorated like your grandma would like her house but it was very clean. We would definitely go back there.
The host was prompt with responding to my request, booking confirmation and details about how to get into the property. The location was great for all the tourist attractions of Monterey, with good road access for the surrounding areas.
The house is indeed old, but everything inside it is also old. The beds are not at all comfortable - you wake yourself up turning over because the frames are so squeaky and the mattresses are so old and soft. The house smells very musty too. Although the house looked basically clean (linens and towels were fresh), there were cobwebs hanging from light fixtures and curtain rails. Plus, we moved a chair in the lounge and there was trash underneath it, so the furniture was obviously not moved for cleaning. In addition, we found a mini laptop down the cushion of a chair that a previous guest must have left behind, clearly never discovered by the cleaning staff. There was a cup left on a bedroom window ledge from a previous guest and the closets/drawers in the bedrooms and bathrooms were not clean enough for us to put our own belongings. The fridge had old food left in it (garlic that smelled every time we opened the door) and wasn't clean - food spilled on shelves.
We were not happy with the security of the house - the back door had a simple hook to keep it closed and opened outwards, so we couldn't block it. There were no curtains or blinds on the front room and only net curtains on the rear bedroom, so anyone lurking outside could see in. Also, one of the mezzanine windows would not lock.
We were disappointed with the quality of the accommodation and would not recommend this property to other guests.
I apologize about the aquarium passes. We have not had the passes available since September, you must have read past reviews because the information on the aquarium passes has been taken off since September.
As for the cleanliness of the house, I do not live onsite, I will be sure to report this to our cleaner and be sure that cobwebs are taken care of, furniture is moved for cleaning and that food is not left in the refrigerator.
In regards to the security of the house, it's in a very safe neighborhood and we have never had an issue with burglary or theft. I will look into getting the mezzanine window fixed so that it can lock.
I'm sorry that our house was to not meet your expectations, but through our previous reviews and photographs I feel that you can get the overall vibe that it is an old home, with an older eclectic style. With regrets of the disappointment, I hope that you still enjoyed your stay.
Kristina was great with communicating before our trip and making sure that I'd be able to find everything. The house is really lovely and just a perfect location. We ended up with 4 adults-- one couple and two singles-- and easily could have slept several more people. The living room is just lovely to hang out in, and the location was within a mile of many restaurants and activities as well as a grocery store. All of us have talked about staying there again. Good price, great location, and super good for scuba diving.
We had a wonderful stay! The neighborhood was older, but very quiet. The home was wonderful! We had 5 folks staying there very comfortably, and it is close to everything - stores, cannery row, 17 mile drive, and the beaches. We would stay there again!
