Simple rooms in perfect location with just short ways to everywhere you want. Kitchen and living room also simple but everything what you need. Cheap and very good restaurants in the near. Nice housemates and the house is never to full. David is a very nice and helpful person and if you have a problem he tries to solve it. We had a nice evening cooking and chatting, thanks for that! Only thing is the bed. It's not comfortable and if you want your room clean you have to make it yourself because it's not a regular hostel/ air bnb.

David and John were very helpful and communicative during my stay. The house is pretty bare-bones, but it's short walking distance to town/food/stores and I enjoyed the space. Thanks David and John! You helped me out in my time of need.

House is well located within an easy walk to town and not too far to drive to the volcanoes and Hilo. Quiet and simple but with everything we needed.

The Annex is a simple but nice accommodation for those who love a cheap but simple one. I stayed for more than month and had a stunning time there. It was clean and cozy with a great and well furnished kitchen. Because of my long stay it was as clean as I kept it. David was a very accommodating host. Don't be anxious by his strictly announcement about the rules, they are as simple as useful. He's very nice and at least to me, he was more than only a host. I had so many opportunities to get to know how to live here and David showed me a lot of Hawaii and island lifestyle. Mahalo nui loa for all of that. Unfortunately a lava flow threatened this small paradise. But if it's further exists I'll come again. Thanks to all my friends there for this stay in paradise. God bless you!

I had a lovely time on the eastern side of the Big Island thanks to the cool boys currently in residence at the house: Chris, Rob, and Alex. You get your own room - big, airy, and simply furnished - and share the kitchen and a couple of bathrooms. The place is clean if a little run down but David has 'posher' rooms next door for those that want to spend more. Located within easy walking distance of the centre of Pahoa, this is the definite wild side to the island and has a very chilled vibe. Don't underestimate how much there is to do over here - I wished I could have stayed longer!

This is a well stocked camp base for your scouting expeditions through Puna District. I recommend it because of it's unbeatable price in relation to the central location in the district, it's well stocked kitchen you can use, it's garden you can use as well and the historical expierence you get be using in the original Japanese style outdoor shower and toilet. There is a bathroom in the house as well - also Japanese style. And surprisingly for the German guests this shower is similar to the ones back home, which I liked a lot. David and his long-stay guest Kurt are very helpfull, I enjoyed the kitchen talks and the dance party in Pahoa a lot. However I don't know if the latter is a regular thing ;D Oh, end keep in mind that there are little chores to do for each night you spend there. Look Out for the little cucumbers I planted in the garden.
