About this listing
Just a 7-minute drive from Ubud's restaurant and retail district, this luxury family villa is nestled in the jungle overlooking the Petanu River. Perfect for 2 families or up to 4 couples. A nature retreat complete with your own in-house chef!
A stunning antique style home perched above Bali's Petanu River and just minutes from central Ubud. In Robinson Caruso fashion, the structure floats atop a jungle setting, affording views of a rare variety of native flora, fauna and rare indigenous trees. A nature sanctuary, the villa gains its inspiration from the traditional Javanese joglo architecture, incorporating natural tree trunk pillars and luxurious solid wood floors. The Master Bedroom stands apart from the two-storey open-air main house, as does the companion rustic French style kitchen. Moving down the embankment and toward the river, the property boasts a magnificent free-form pool complete with waterfalls, reflection pools, and an absolutely unique cliff-side dwelling in the form of a rustic cottage - the perfect get-away...
Best of all, our home features a world-class chef who will tantalize your taste buds with epicurean delights from around the world. You can either select from a pre-set menu, or create with our chef a meal of your choosing.
With the exception of the owner's office, the entire villa and grounds are made available to our guests, all cared for and attended by our full-time staff. Meals can be prepared to your liking and an on-call masseuse is on call for a nominal additional fee.
Our home sits at the very end of the village of Tankulat, at the end of the road and adjacent to the river. We are protected by jungle and natural barriers on all sides for maximum peace and quiet. We are very safe and secure. The village creates a natural barrier from the outside world and our neighbor works as the night watchman. We are just 10 minutes from downtown Ubud.
At your request, we can arrange for a full-time or part-time driver to shuttle you and your family to anywhere you'd like to go on the island.
For most of the year, Anam Cara is our home. It was designed and built with natural beauty of the location at its center. We ask that all our guests treat the villa, the land, our staff and our village with kindness and respect.
This listing was exactly as described. You truly do become one with nature and all the sights and sounds have an incredibly calming effect. Everything is in an open air environment with the option to close yourself off and use air conditioning if need be. We did not have the need for it during our stay but other times of the year it is great to know it's there if needed. Our bedroom was spacious and the bed super comfortable. Another thing to note is the real sense of privacy staying amongst the trees - even the swimming pool is secluded in such a unique way. The staff were wonderful and communication was never a problem. This hidden gem was an experience you will want to share with your traveling friends and from what we saw, there seemed to be plenty of rooms for booking even a group to experience this together. Having only just gotten into the "zen-like" swing of things, we only wish we had booked for longer! We'll be back.
I have been using AirBNB for several years now and have never had such an amazing experience! The opportunity to stay in such a luxurious, one of a kind place is exactly why I love AIrBNB in the first place!
Where do I start? The property is exceptionally private and quiet, but only around 7-8 mins from central Ubud. You literally cannot hear anything except for the sounds of nature, which is getting more rare as Bali becomes more developed.
You can tell that this is a place that has been decorated very slowly, piece by piece. There is art, statues and fabrics from all over the world that seem to have been picked especially for each nook and cranny. It brings all the colour to the property, as all the buildings are made of antique wood.
The place comes staffed with an incredible cook named Komang, who used to be the head chef at a 5 star hotel. He makes an incredible breakfast each day, and made the most incredible 4 course dinners for us when we wanted to eat in. (all served in a separate, circular dining gazebo in the middle of a pond!) He was amazing...able to adjust for the different dietary needs of our group. (a vegan, a celiac)
All the bedrooms are luxurious and very well appointed. In the master bedroom, this includes an outdoor shower and a wooden Japanese bathtub in the garden.
The swimming pool is something you really have to see to believe. Set a few steps down in valley it is completely private and feels a bit wild...like bathing in a stone pool in the jungle, except with pool loungers!
We can't recommend this home enough, and will be staying there again the next time we are here!
