About this listing
One of the oldest properties on the Dingle Peninsula with a traditional crog loft sleeping area. Imagine your ancestors but with central heating and a fully fitted kitchen.
The Rambling House is where, in the past, the local community use to gather to tell stories. One of the very few houses left in the area with a traditional crog loft, you can sit in front of the fire and imagine that you are back in the past. But with the benefit of a modern fully fitted kitchen and central heating!
This is a self-catering property and you and your party will have the whole house for yourselves. You will also have access to the garden and patio. Garden furniture is provided. There is parking for 3 cars. We have a shed in which you can leave bikes etc. The sea is an approximately 20 minute walk and can be seen from the house,
Interaction with Guests
This is self-catering and while we are happy to answer questions we expect guests to be fairly self-sufficient.
The house is rural and there is no public transport. A taxi from town is about 15 euros. Dingle is a safe place to hitch and we often stay at this house without a car.
We didn't meet Louise or the housekeeper just arranged a key drop but Louise was easy to reach before our rental, not quite as much when we asked for s few things we needed. Cottage is as described. Lovely view, modern well equipped kitchen. Wifi was great ( I had three teenagers :-) A bit slight on the bed linens and towels, no shampoos etc but we are just learning that not all those amenities are provided. The house is a short drive from Dingle town but in a fabulous area for exploring the peninsula. Spectacular beach and sunset.. Great historic sites close by. Would definitely recommend .. Just call ahead to get the heat turned on .. Needed - as there was a very musty smell when we arrived until the place warmed up. That's the trade off I guess to experience the charm of a 200 year old cottage.
Our stay at rambling house was great, there were six of our family staying for three nights, three adults and three kids.. The house was a perfect size for us all, we all got our own beds which was great! The house had everything we could have needed to cook and eat, to clean up, entertain ourselves and lovely towels were provided! The location was beautiful, perfect garden for hide and seek with the kids! Directions were great too! We didn't meet Louise but met Linda, who dropped extra bedding to the house when we asked, she was lovely and friendly! We will be back next year and will hope to get better weather next time!
Really great experience in the cottage. Loved the whole thing despite the fact we had awful weather.
Overall had a great stay and it was seamless really picking up the key etc.
The house has a lot of character. Location is excellent - a few minutes drive outside Dingle in farmland, with a view on the sea. Kitchen is well equipped, but the rest of the house could use updating. There were some interactions with the host (who manages the property remotely) that seemed unnecessarily complicated.
House was as described, great location close to Dingle and Louise was easy to communicate with and arrange key pick up.
Absolute pleasure to recommend ramblers lodge! The place was gorgeous, well presented and very easy to find. Louise was helpful and friendly. Loved Dingle and would love to stay there again.
Nothing but good memories!
Trev and kids.
In general the cottage is good value for the money but it is in need of a good deep clean to get rid of cobwebs etc. The linen is now at the end of its life and we have advised the host to replace. The beds are quaint but soft and may not be to everyone's comfort. Kitchen is fairly well equipped. Wood burner is a nice cosy touch but not a necessity as the central heating system is excellent. The host was difficult to get hold of in the run up to the holiday but was quick to respond to any issues during our stay. It is a nice distance out of Dingle to feel remote but just 10mins out by car or 12euro by taxi.

About the Host, Louise
I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
