About this listing
Fantastic sea view property in the Irish countryside. On a rough day watch the waves as they break over the Sleeping Giant. On a calm summer day sit outside listening to the sound of the sheep on the hills and the buzz of insects gathering pollen.
Nestled into the hillside next to the ancient church at Kilmalkedar, Atlantic Cottage looks out over Smerwick Harbour and the Atlantic to The Sleeping Giant, one of the Blasket Islands. Sitting in the cosy kitchen you can watch 50 foot waves rolling in from America battering the cliffs. The beach is a 15 minute walk and if on a hot sunny day there are more than 20 people, we'd consider it crowded. The Pilgrim's Way runs up behind the house allowing you to climb the mountain and look out over 360 degree views. The area has been a centre for calm, spiritual retreat for hundreds of years and we look forward to inviting you enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area.
Guests have access to the whole house.
Interaction with Guests
This is a self catering house and though we might meet guests we will not be there ourselves.
The view, the view, the view. Swimming from the beach as the tide comes in on a summers day. Being in the middle of the countryside next to a working farm. Watching the sheep being brought down from the hill side, the odd chicken that wanders in to the garden. The wrens and robins that nest in the fuchia hedges. Fabulous neighbours and the Irish craic.
There is no public transport but hitching is easy and safe .
Other Things to Note
This house is in the country and probably not suitable for anyone with an animal allergy. It is very dark at night as there is no street lighting - hurrah you can see the stars in the Milky Way. While it is perfectly safe to sleep with the windows open, having the lights on will attract moths and other insects.
We expect Airbnb guests to be fairly self reliant and to behave in a respectful way. This is not a hotel, it is a simple but well equipt holiday cottage.
We do not accept smokers.
We to accept pets but must be told you are bringing them with you. You will be responsible for cleaning up after them.
From Sep 1 - Nov 30, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Great location and wonderful cottage and garden. Lot's of space for our family. The cottage had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our 4 night stay.
Beautiful views. It was a bit difficult to find, but well worth the drive away from town. The place was clean and quaint.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It is in a great location outside of town but still close to everything. In fact, our drive around the peninsula ended right by the house. The view from the kitchen and one of the bedrooms was beautiful. There was plenty of space and multiple bedrooms. We loved having the kitchen to cook in, and it has all the pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils you will need. The house was clean, and the beds were comfortable. I only have one very small complaint. There is a washer and dryer, but the dryer is in the shed outside. We were unaware of this until the last day, so we weren't able to do our laundry.
Great location and very spacious holiday home. Large kitchen with dining table and fantastic view and cosy living room for those occasional rainy days. Dingle with pubs and shops just a few minutes car drive away and yet very quite and remote. Large garden, ideal for younger kids, too.(beach just a few minutes drive away. Definitely recommended.
Stayed 2 nights with my family in this nice little cottage with fantastic views overlooking farm lands, a huge lake and hills in a distant. It was a beautiful sight especially on a sunny day and appears exactly as described by Louis. The cottage itself is kept clean with easy access to the town centre by car and Louis has been most helpful with directions to the cottage. Handover of the cottage keys is simple and easy. The plus factor is that the kitchen is well equipped with all the necessary utensils. It would have been splendid if there was Internet connection. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time there. Dear Louis, thanks for accepting our stay.
We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Atlantic Cottage. The breathtaking views exceeded even the description. Louise was very warm and friendly and an excellent host. She was very attentive and welcomed us with Milk to drink and Peat to burn in the cozy little fireplace (we declined the milk as we both don't drink milk, but the peat gave off this lovely aroma).
The cottage is true to the description. Spectacular views and we had an amazing time cooking in the kitchen as we looked out over the bay. We would highly recommend a stay here and given the excellent experience we had with Louise, we would expect her other listings to be wonderful as well.

About the Host, Louise
I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
