About This Listing
Room with a queen bed in a quaint 1920s bungalow. The room is adjacent to full bathroom with Jacuzzi-size tub/shower. Full kitchen with upscale appliances. Charming front porch. Comfortable living room with seating, large screen TV, and DVD player. I do not have cable television. Wireless Internet.
The house is three miles to main campus of the University of South Carolina, three miles to the Vista and downtown Columbia, and four miles to the 5 Points area (bars, restaurants, and other attractions). For those coming to town for Fort Jackson events, it's about ten miles to the fort. I'm close to Riverfront Park, which has a five mile trail alongside the river. If you're into hiking/nature, Harbison State Forest and Congaree National Park are not too far away. Also, kayaking and canoeing are great.
For traveling medical professionals, the house is conveniently five minutes from Palmetto Health Richland and ten minutes from Palmetto Health Baptist.
The best places for fried chicken in Columbia are: Bernie's, Zesto's, and Publix. The best places for BBQ are: Shealy's (Batesburg-Leesville), Little Pigs, True BBQ, Hite's, and Hudson's. The best coffee is at Immaculate Consumption and Drip. Now you know, even if you don't stay with me. :)
I have two cats--one friendly, one scared of life. They are long-hair cats. I would not recommend staying here if you have any allergy concerns. The house is fine for school age children but it's not toddler or baby proof.
Use all the pots, pans, and china in the kitchen cabinets. I wash all my knives and pots by hands, but dishes can go in the dishwasher. The china cabinet in the dining room is off limits. Please help yourself to coffee and tea and Coke if I have any.
Interaction with Guests
I live here. I work at the house a good bit. I make every attempt to stay out of guests' way, but, as you can tell from my reviews, also love to chat!
Public transit is challenging to use in Columbia.
I really think this is basic etiquette, y'all.
Do: Use all the dishes and pots and pans that are in the kitchen. Use the refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Help yourself to any of the towels in the bathroom cabinet. Feel comfortable asking if you can have someone come over for a meal or a drink up to a reasonable hour--I might like them too! Help yourself to coffee and tea. You'll get the wireless password when you arrive. Please park in the driveway, even if I'm home.
Please Do Not: Eat the food that is here (with the exception of coffee/tea/creamer/salt/pepper, etc.) Feed my cats anything. Smoke inside or put anything up your nose while you're here. Leave windows open.
My house is fine for school-age children, but not for small toddlers or babies. The cats have been around children sparingly, and I would hate for something to happen. If you have any allergy concerns I recommend you find another property.
It works best for guests to arrive in the afternoon, and leave by noon.
Adorable house, wonderful host, delightful bedroom and bathroom! The house has a lot of character, with high ceilings and nice antique furniture. And Melissa also has a lot of character -- what an interesting person, and what great conversation we had! My one-night stay was simply great -- I hope I get to stay with Melissa on my next visit to Columbia!
Melissa was a fantastic host; very accommodating and made my first airbnb experience enjoyable. I was nervous about using airbnb but she cleared that up pretty quick. I came in for a conference and didn't know anything about Columbia and she was willing to talk about what things were going on and what fun things to do while out and about. If you're private then she doesn't pry, but if you're willing to open up some then she's there to talk with and be social.
Her house was easy to find, in a quiet neighborhood, but not too far from downtown so going to and from wasn't a problem. The room was great, the bed was comfortable, and everything looks how the pictures look. If you're into cats then you'll probably make a cat friend too; her cat Patsy liked to hang around and explore what I was doing.
This is a nice little house, well appointed and completely comfortable. Melissa made me feel at home and provided all the necessaries. Her two large cats were friendly but unobtrusive. The bed was comfortable and the room was large enough for my luggage. Melissa allowed me to use her european steam iron, what a treat. I'll be back.
Easy to find and a beautiful old home. Melissa was very friendly and accommodating. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. Melissa was genuinely concerned for my pregnant wife's comfort and did everything she could for us.
Not much going on in the immediate area/neighborhood, but very easy drive to downtown, and not far off the interstate.
We would stay there again if stopping through Columbia.
Melissa was my first introduction to AirBnb, and a fantastic one to say the least. She was so helpful with offering suggestions on parts of town to explore as well as restaurants that were fun and delicious.
Her home was delightful and charming, just as the pictures suggest.
If you're visiting Columbia I would definitely stay here, she was a a joy to meet and get to know!
I had a great experience staying with Melissa. She was very hospitable and generous with her home, and made me feel welcome immediately upon arrival. It was the ideal location for me while attending a conference downtown, and I would definitely stay with her again if the opportunity arises.
About the Host, Melissa
I am a performing and teaching artist completing my MFA in Acting. I like a lot of the things you expect me to: music, coffee, NYT, NPR, antiquing, fashion, art, cooking, cocktail parties. All that stuff.
I might add that Air BnB is not a dating site.
