The Space

A room with a queen bed in a quaint 1920s bungalow. The room is adjacent to full bathroom with Jacuzzi-size tub/shower. Full kitchen with tons of prep space, large refrigerator, gas range. Charming front porch. Comfortable living room with seating, large screen TV, and DVD player. I do not have cable television. Wireless Internet.

During the school year I'm in class and at rehearsal nonstop, so you'll have plenty of privacy. Any entertaining I do at the house is very low key.

The house is three miles to main University of South Carolina campus, three miles to the Vista and downtown Columbia, and four miles to the 5 Points area (bars, restaurants, and other attractions). For those coming to town for Fort Jackson events, it's about ten miles to the fort. I'm close to Riverfront Park, which has a five mile trail alongside the river. If you're into hiking/nature, Harbison State Forest and Congaree National Park are not too far away. Also, kayaking and canoeing is great, with all the rivers.

For traveling medical professionals, the house is conveniently five minutes from Palmetto Health Richland and ten minutes from Palmetto Health Baptist.

The best places for fried chicken in Columbia are: Bernie's, Zesto's, and Publix. The best places for BBQ are: Shealy's (Batesburg-Leesville), Little Pigs, True BBQ, Hite's, and Hudson's. The best coffee is at Immaculate Consumption and Drip. Now you know, even if you don't stay with me. :)

  • Melissa was a wonderful host. Her home is lovely, great location. Though we did not have a lot of spare time, we very much enjoyed talking with her. She was kind enough to have coffee in a thermos for our very early mornings! Definitely will be back and would highly recommend staying with her if you are in Columbia!

  • I had a great time in Columbia. Melissa is an amazing host. The room is sweet and cozy. Her cats are cute but a little bit tricky lol. Now I will consider her more like a friend than just a host.

  • Fabulous Bungalow in Columbia. tree lined streets and nice area.
Melissa's home is furnished with dark woods and older things that match the time period of her bungalow. You are greeted with two large fuzzy cats upon entering her home. They warm up to you later but may be stand offish at first or hiss, but they made us smile and couldn't wait for all of our extra attention we gave them.

The bed is comfortable and you share a bathroom. The bathtub is HUGE and taking a bubble bath is a must for all you folks who want a luxurious spa event without the price.
Melissa's southern hospitality was charming. She also is proud of living in Columbia. There is more to Columbia then meets the eye and Melissa knows all about it...take her word for it!

A lovely time, we shall return!!

  • Melissa's house is very comfortable and inviting. I really enjoyed meeting her and having coffee in the mornings and especially hearing the sweet chime of the tea kettle. We were close to everything downtown. My son is at USC and I happy to have found a great home away from home!

  • Melissa welcomed me and was very clear about how to access my room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean--her home is peaceful. Talking to her in the morning was enjoyable. A Thermos of French Press Coffee was welcome too.
