The Space

The house was restored in 2013, so everything is nice and new and shiny! Comfy new beds and bedding, a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy living room make our property a great base from which to explore Abruzzo. Free WiFi internet is installed!

Guest Access

Rental is for the full house and outside terraces (which are the perfect place to unwind with a BBQ and red wine after a day of hiking in the mountains!).

The Neighborhood

Our house is located in the ancient town of Capestrano, Abruzzo. Founded in the 13th century, Capestrano offers a variety of inspiring architecture, eventful history, countless vineyards, fabulously friendly locals and a simply unforgettable view.

Situated in the mountainous Abruzzo region, this beautiful town is just 45 minutes from the beach, 30 minutes from the ski slopes, 15 minutes from the Gran Sasso national park, and 90 minutes from Rome. This is an undiscovered part of Italy!

Getting around

The house comes with parking. Capestrano is located about 10km from the main highway going between Rome and Pescara (A25)

Other Things to Note

With free WiFi.

The fully equipped kitchen comes with some basics too: coffee, sugar, salt, olive oil, dried pasta and mixed herbs.

  • Had a lovely time - Alessandro who took care of us was great, the house was very comfortable and Capestrano is very pretty and peaceful.

  • This house in Capestrano is a perfect gateway for people tired of a hustle and crowded streets of big cities. It offers you quietness and authenticity of a true mountainous Italy, and yet so much more! Magnificent breath-taking mountains, caves, Middle-Age towns, national parks. On top of that, you have Adriatic Sea beaches perfect for kids.
The house itself is very cozy, inviting, and it has everything you need to give you the best experience in provence. Mornings are especially magnificent: be prepared to hear the bird's orchestra and the get the best sun kisses ever.

  • A beautiful mountain village and a great place to stay away from tourists. Unfortunately we didn't get to stay long enough and explore the region. Alessandro was very helpful and always willing to help. We were very fortunate that he showed us exclusive access to the convent. An amazing place. The flat was wonderful and spacious. We loved meeting Mama next door who made us a cake and invited us in for coffee. What a beautiful woman. Wished we spoke Italian so we could have conversed more but we had a good attempt anyway. All communication and meeting point with Allesandro went very well. Could easily have stayed longer.

  • We stayed at Joseph and Tanya's house in Capestrano for almost a week in May. It was wonderful! We were warmly welcomed by Alessandro - our English speaking guide - and shown around the house which was exactly what we pictured. The house is simple and well finished and very cosy. The terrace looking over the mountain is a complete joy. It's a lovely way to spend a week really getting away from it all - the town is so peaceful and friendly.
It's also a great base for exploring Abruzzo, which is really un-touristy and utterly beautiful. We rented a car and would recommend anyone staying here do the same thing as we managed to see a huge amount of the surrounding countryside including some amazing mountain views, Roman ruins, and underground caves. The Abruzzesi were unfalteringly welcoming and we ate some amazing food - the local wine and pasta is excellent.
We had a fantastic holiday and can't wait to book to come back again next year - thanks Joseph, Tanya and Alessandro!

  • Our accommodation at Capestrano has proved to be an experience to remember....for all the right reasons. The setting alone is reason enough to visit this gorgeous apartment and the region. Built on a mountain ridge many hundreds of years ago, the village is surrounded by spectacular mountain and valley vistas. Many of the mountain tops retain snow all year round , which makes for a picture postcard setting. The people play a huge role in making this place special. After acquainting ourselves with our elderly lady neighbour we were invited for coffee and cake that included meeting the extended family. Memories to remember. As for the apartment, we were booked in for 2 nights....we wished it were 7. Really well equipped and tastefully decorated, it is so easy to understand why many of the people we met opted to live in this country/village setting over the big city.

  • We had some wonderful days in Capestrano, at Joseph&Tanya's house. The house has an excellent location with a very nice view on the historic centre of the town. Terraces, balconies provide the joy to admire the look. Furniture, installations in the house are almost new and work perfectly. Our careful and never tired guide was Allessando, now our friend Chicco who was an ideal host making his best to try to substitute J&T who, from the distance, also showed their care for us. We went to visit the town of St. John of Capistran and found a unique Italian town, far from the tourist hordes, with mysterious medieval streets. Hopefully we shall be able to go back; it was a wonderful time for us and weather also was excellent.

  • We came to Capestrano with our 2 daughters to let them get an authentic Italian experience and we were not disappointed. Alessandro, our contact there, was extremely friendly and helpful. He is an affable larrikin who is enthusiastic about visitors coming to the Abruzzo region but less crazy about seatbelts! Be prepared to give your Italian language skills a bit of a workout.
The house is the real deal down amongst the narrow roads with views up to the castle. With the shutters on the windows that block out all the light, we awoke much later than we usually do, to the sounds of the castle bells chiming the time. Capestrano is so quiet and still, it is hard not to sink into a relaxed state.
We loved the horse riding with Julie Tulip who is mad about her horses and great with the kids, who had never sat on a horse before.
If we were ever in the region again, we would stay here.

  • We had a great time at Joseph and Tanya's place. The house is very neat and tidy, nicely prepared for our arrival. We were welcomed by their friend Allessandro, and at all times we could call him for questions or help. Capestrano is a friendly little town, with an impressive Medici castle. The town and area are still rather damaged by the 2009 earthquake, which was sad to see, but the beauty of the medieval villages and nature is stunning. Definitely worth going!

  • If you can, stay here! The Abruzzo region is incredible, and this house in Capestrano is the perfect place to rest and get away from it all in an idyllic setting. Joseph and Tanya's hospitality was incredible. We arrived after a long day of hiking to a gift bottle of wine, a fully equipped kitchen, and some basic staples to make a simple, yet delicious meal. Great place, great deal!
