Our host, Joseph, was really helpful and answered all our questions right away.
We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful house in Capestrano when we came to visit our new grandson nearby.
The house had everything that we needed and we especially enjoyed sitting out on the terrace in the mornings for breakfast.
The area is very beautiful and we went on some wonderful excursions.
A great house in an idyllic Italian village. Everything you need and more is available in the house, like tomato sauce, sugar, coffee etc. Unfortunately it was over 35 degrees when we were there (normally about 25 degrees), so during the day we couldn't find a cool spot in or around the house. But we enjoyed the warm, romantic nights under the stars at the terrace of the house. We made several trips to visit the region; it's the perfect location to do so.
We had great time in rural Italy, enjoying the people, the food and the culture. Joseph's house is clean, cosy, comfortable and very well equipped, it's in a lovely location with amazing views and has the advantage of two terraces! Joseph, Irina and Pauline were all very helpful and so were the neighbours. Thanks for a lovely flavour of Abruzzo, we would recommend this to anyone looking for an authentic experience of unspoilt Italy.
This is a fantastic apartment in Italy's most beautiful region. The apartment is very close ( 20 min) to so many amazing places in Abruzzo! The Valle dell'Orfento, Rocca Calascio, Gran Sasso (drive through the national park!). Seriously, if you want to go to Abruzzo look no further.
Most importantly, the elderly woman next door, Fenezia, is one of the warmest souls I have ever met in my life. She invited me and my girlfriend into her apartment every morning for coffee, and we spoke with her for hours about her life in Italy. She only speaks Italian so we struggled a bit (we can talk in broken language, but understand almost everything), but seriously; we want to go back just to sit and have coffee with her!
Another thing; there is an excellent restaurant (the one with a pool, ask Joseph), right down the street. The best arrosticcini I've ever had, better than Donato (Cermignano) or l'Unico Posto (l'Aquila). Their fettuccine with mushrooms and truffles is also incredible. I'm talkin' mega 5++ stars, michelin star good. Eat like a king (wine + 4 courses + after dinner drinks) for 15 euros / person.
We have spent only three days in Joseph and Tanya’s house in Capestrano. Here is a summary of our impressions :
From a geographic and touristic point of view : excellently placed for nature lovers (Campo Imperatore and Abruzzi Park), history aficionados (Castel del Monte and Calascio and Capestrano fortresses) or old, immensely valuable frescoed churches (Oratorio di San Pellegrino in Bominaco, that of San Pietro dell’Oratorio near Capestrano , or Maria (website hidden) d’Appari in Paganica) All within a short (but tortuous) drive from Capestrano.
About the house : spotless clean, very comfortable and with all, but absolutely all things required by persons willing to cook for themselves. Can accommodate up to 5 persons.
About the hosts : Joseph and Tanya reachable by Internet (works perfectly) almost on the spot, in spite of the distance. Irina, the caretaker - sweet, warm hearted and always available. We were late, our telephone did not work in Gran Sasso National Park and she had the extreme kindness to wait for us for an hour in the main square of the town without being sure if and when we’ll make it.
In short, a vacation house we recommend wholeheartedly. Our best wishes to Joseph and Tanya.

We found the centre of the little village with no problem and Irena was waiting for us and showed us to the house. Once she's shown us where everything was and how it worked we settled in.
The place was beautifully cosy, as described in the ad. A perfect little terrace looking up at the castle and the houses on the hill. The kitchen was pretty much where we spent all our time when in the house and it was ideal for our needs. A small base from which to explore this exquisite area and the beautiful countryside.
The locals in the village pub seemed a little wary but that could be down to our lack of Italian language ability.
The bedroom was perfectly comfortable although no wardrobe so don't take things to hang.
For those unused to cleaning up after themselves (shamefully guilty) it took a short while to get used to the sink being solid ceramic and I'm sorry to say we had to replace some glasses from being a little heavy handed!
The local shops (there are 2 in the village) keep opening times limited and don't seem to do fresh vegetables or fruit, which you can get from the market or go to Popoli to the bigger supermarket.
Overall, this was exactly what we were looking for and what we needed to better understand the area as a base. PQ
Capestrano is a wonderful place. People are very friendly and there are so many things to see and visit in the area.
We were welcomed by Irina who informed us about of everything we needed to know. She reacted immediately when we needed something and was very helpful during our stay. One evening she cooked a wonderful dinner for us, which was a great experience.
The house is cosy and its a great place to stay, when you are a couple or a small family. I would not recommend it for six people for a longer stay, as the small, single bathroom can become a bottleneck.
Also you have to be aware, that you are in rural Italy, where services like electricity or internet are not as reliable as you might be used to. This has nothing to do with the house, it's just a fact, that you have to be aware of.
