About This Listing
Double bedroom, great location, close to city (15 min bus) with easy access to shops, cinemas, transport, parks, restaurants and bars. Stylish, peaceful & easily accessible. Most importantly welcoming hosts!
Double bedroom in fully renovated, design led semi-d on River Dodder. Great location, close to the city (20 min cycle) but with easy access to Dundrum, M50 and mountains. Stylish, peaceful & easily accessible. Most importantly of all - welcoming hosts!
The house is just over 1700 square feet, around 160 square meters. It has a very large, open plan living room, dinning room and kitchen where we hang out in the evenings.
There's also another living room downstairs with TV, DVD player, open fireplace and a home office setup (with WiFi throughout the house) that you can use if you want some time to yourself.
The garden is large, south-facing and tranquil. It's a great place to sit and sun yourself, read a book or enjoy a drink or two. We have apple and plum trees and grow strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, gooseberries and rhubarb so you're welcome to pick from the garden and bake a nice crumble if you want. Only rule is we get to sample it :) The garden (and house) are also home to our dog, Alfie, an Irish Water Spaniel.
The front of the house looks out over the river Dodder and a bank of trees which stretch the length of the road on the far side of the river. At each end of the road are large parks with beautiful walks, Bushy park in particular has great amenities with tennis courts, football pitches, woodlands and lakes. If you want to borrow tennis rackets for a game that's no problem.
Again at either end of the road are bus routes that take you straight into town or indeed to the airport. Taking a bus to the city centre outside of rush hour takes around 20 minutes (up to 45 in rush hour). It would take between 40 mins to 1 hour to walk. For cyclists Dublin city centre is a 15 - 20 minute cycle away, the Dublin mountains are around a 40 minute cycle or you could head east to Sandymount beach in around 15 minutes.
If you're driving there's great access out to the M50 and on to all the main motorway routes.
Dundrum shopping centre (Europe's largest) is close by too, 15 mins by bike or 10 mins by bus.
We'll have a hair dryer and fresh towels and linen ready for when you arrive. You can also use the washer, iron, cooker etc. so you can travel light and not stress about the little things.
We'll be there to meet you, or we can arrange to collect you from the airport for a fee.
We're pretty relaxed about what you do in the house, but please smoke outside.
Check in is listed as 18:30 but we'll be flexible wherever possible.
We're also pretty used to taking in English language students and we make an effort to try and help them practising and explaining English phases and words so if you're coming to Ireland to learn English there's no where better to stay.

Other Things to Note
Please look at the map of our other listing where you'll find all our recommendations for local restaurants, pubs, walks etc...
Smoking outside. Three of us share the house currently and we work Mon - Fri from 09:00 so weekdays tend to be quite relaxed and quiet, apart from that there's no real rules. Just respect the other people in the house and their stuff.
Was soll ich sagen?!
Sehr gerne wieder!
What a beautiful house with very friendly hosts. The location is lovely; right opposite a big park and a river, perfect for walking or jogging.
The house is very tastefully decorated and feels very welcoming.
It's easy to get into the city centre using the direct bus connections.
You need to be ok with dogs as John and Diana have a friendly Irish Water Spaniel in residence.
My stay with John and Diana was absolutely fabulous from start to finish! I'm a Dub who hasn't lived here for a while and was in need of accommodation for Paddys Weekend.. I knew this area and thought it would be perfect.
What can I say, it was! John and Diana were incredibly welcoming toward me! Room was lovely (just as nice as in photos), bed comfortable and I never felt I was overstepping in their space in kitchen, living room, garden etc. I actually was sad to leave them and wanted to stay longer! They were full of great advice and help for where to shop and local bus info! Their beautiful dog Alfie was great company too... :-) I'd recommend ANY of my friends to stay with John and Diana!!
Herrlich!
I highly recommend this accomodation as the place is very nice and the people living there are very friendly and welcoming.
The communication was good from the first moment, I could even bring my suitcase over a bit earlier. John installed the Dublin BusApp on my phone, what was really useful.
The house looked modern and clean. The room looked exactly like on the photo. The bed was very comfortabel, great for 1 person, but also good for 2. I could always sleep very well. Diana and John invited me to dinner on my first day and even on my second, as I didn't have the time to buy some food. It is definitely a good place to relax, especially in this great sunny September we had. I spent almost every day some time in the garden, usually their dog Alfie was giving me company.
The area is also good for a walk along the Dodder and there are some parks. Going to the city center takes about 20 min, longer in traffic. If you have a night out, I recommend to take a taxi (from St Stephens Green costs from 11 €). It is a very good area and I always felt safe walking home at night, even when I got lost sometimes (very useful to have navigation on your phone).
I had a great time there and I would have extended my stay there but the room was already booked.
I stayed with John, Diana and Alfie (a gorgeous Irish water spaniel) for a month. It was my first airbnb experience and I'm more than satisfied.
The house and the room looked great on the photos but were even nicer in person. The room is big, with a comfortable bed, plenty of natural light and a lovely view on the garden. There's was more than enough space in two big wardrobes for all my stuff. The bathroom was nice and clean. The kitchen is very big and spacious so you can easily let the chef in you get creative. :)
The rest of the house is very tastefully furnished and decorated. They also have a really gorgeous garden where I spent many mornings enjoying my morning cup of coffee.
John and Diana are really lovely hosts. They were super helpful and welcoming. They treated me to a great diner when I arrived and before I left. We had many great chats whenever they were around. They're great people with a lovely sense of humor and I can say we became friends.
The house is a 5 min walk from a bus stop and it takes approximately 20-30 to get to the centre depending on the traffic. If you go by taxi it'll be from 12-15eur.
The house is located in a lovely, quiet and safe neighborhood next to Dodder River and to the Dodder Park. It's lovely surroundings and s great place to take a walk.
All in all I had a more than positive experience. Would love to come back next time I'm in town.
John & Di are an exceptional host, nice and friendly. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped inside their beautiful house, I was offered a good welcoming dinner.
They helped me with all my queries and they were always there to answer my questions promptly, and I do ask a lot of questions
The room was clean, large with a lot of storage space, natural light and a comfortable double bed.
The location might seem to some far from the city center but in practice it is not. I took me 20-25 min by bus or 45 min if I walked. The largest shopping mall of the country (Dundrum) is just 35 min away by foot.
The house is located in a nice area surrounded by green parks and looking over a nice river. Grocery shop and other shops are less than 10min walk away in a nice small historical village.
Bathroom was clean, included a hot tub and was not shared with the host. Backyard was nice and sunny as it is facing south.
This was my first Airbnb stay and It was a very positive experience.
If you are looking for a nice comfortable place to stay you won’t be let down if choose this one, you get more than what you would expect.
