About this listing
Le Grindoux is a three hundred-year-old farmhouse that has been completely renovated into a cozy, four-bedroom, two-bath family home.
1km from town but in the country, with a view of town from the patio (where you will spend all of your time!)
Le Grindoux is a three hundred-year-old renovated farmhouse on the department road 1km from town. With expansive views over the surrounding countryside, it is quite convenient for your morning croissant and newspaper run, and ideal for families with school-age children or adults sharing a vacation.
You can spend your days close to home, exploring the local villages, visiting the daily markets, or on the patio enjoying locally-made aperitifs and wines, foie gras, truffles, fraises des bois, tomates de Marmande or delicious charcuterie from one of the very good butchers in town.
Or, explore the region...the Aquitaine has a rich history: at one time the dowry of Alienor of Acquitaine (mother of Richard the Lion-heart) when she married Henry II, in the 13th and 14th century it was the realm of Alphonse de Poitiers, who built fortified the small towns, called bastides, all over the region. Other Aquitaine notables include Edward the Black Prince, Henry IV of France, and Josephine Baker. About an hour away are the prehistoric caves of Font De Gaume and Lascaux.
There are many ways to enjoy the beautiful countryside: ride bikes on the country roads (if you’re lucky, the Tour de France will swing nearby), take walks on the randonnées (pilgrim paths) that criss-cross the area, visit family farms and sit down to a meal with the farmer’s family at a ferme auberge, swim at the Castillonnès pool, or play tennis at the town courts. There are also swimming lakes, river boat rides, ornamental gardens, horseback riding, golf–lots of outdoor activities to keep you busy.
When you return from your day's adventure, you will sleep well: all of the bedrooms have American queen-sized beds.
One bedroom is quite large and contains the queen and two twin beds, and downstairs off the salon is the smallest–perfect for one, but possible for a couple. There are skylights and sinks in the upstairs bedrooms. There is a split bath (WC and shower room) on each floor (total of 2).
The house has wireless Internet, BBQ and lots of guidebooks and maps to help plan your stay. The phone only works for local calls.
You will need a car to get around; rentals can be had in Bordeaux at the airport or train station or at the Bergerac airport. We are on a department road which is larger than the smaller county roads deeper into the country. For those flying, you can arrive in Paris and then the TGV or drive down, or in Bordeaux and drive from there. There are flights from the UK directly to Bergerac as well.
We are not set up for very small children: no cribs or high chairs and the garden is not fenced.
The entire house is yours to rent. It's the only house on the property.
