Beautiful walking neighborhood near downtown Raleigh (10 miles) and 2 miles from 540 that takes you to Durham and Chapel Hill. The house is all on one level surrounded by large trees with the backyard and deck overlooking a beautiful lake. I am a certified massage therapist and bodywork practitioner and I have a treatment room on site if you would like to pamper yourself.
The available bedroom is the master suite with lots of floor space, 2 twin size beds that can be separate or put together to make a king. There is a walk-in closet with dresser, desk and a private bath with shower. Wi-fi is available throughout the house and you are welcome to use the kitchen, laundry and living rooms. Help yourself to tea, coffee and breakfast foods when you like.
There is a gym and yoga studio within walking distance with very reasonable rates. Additionally, a YMCA is located less then a 10 minute drive away. If you want to relax and stretch after your journey, I host a lakeside yoga class with an experienced teacher on Saturday mornings in the backyard. There are many close by restaurants and bars and I love to give recommendations! Popular shopping areas including, Southpoint, Crabtree Valley Mall and Briarcreek are located 5-15 minutes away by car.
No smoking and please take your shoes off when entering home.
Barbara was a gracious host and the Quiet Lake Home was as represented...lovely and pastoral. We would certainly stay with Barbara again should we find ourselves in Raleigh.
I stayed in Barbara's place for 34 days. Barbara is a great host. She is an easy going, genuinely pleasant, caring, and fun person. She is also into nature and gardening and has the enthusiasm to talk to about any topics. I also enjoyed the company of Bill (Barbara's boyfriend) in the weekends. Bill is into politics and different types of music. Both have a great personalities and I enjoyed hanging out with them when I got the chance.
The house is spacious with an authentic feel inside. The backyard looks into a lake that gives it a feel of a quiet gate away place. The neighborhood is quiet with few people, usually in the mornings and evening, being visible walking or jogging. The living room is comfortable and the kitchen is equipped everything you might need for cooking including with a room in the fridge. I was welcomed to use any utensils as long as i wash them after use.
Barbara is very clean and organized. The bed room is exactly as depicted in the picture: a big room with shower and dressing rooms. I also found it convenient to do work at the desk in the room. Barbra always respected my privacy.
Barbara is a great host as well a great resource for the area. Since the first day, she had helped me navigate the area pointing out good restaurants, things to do, places to shop and even deals for joining gyms. I enjoyed the lively conversations we had. I also had the chance to try Trager, a different type of massage that Barbara gives to clients in her home. It was a great way to relax!
I think we got along pretty well. My last day in Raleigh was for Halloween. Barbara and Bill dressed me up with a hat and a fake snake and we went to an Ethiopian restaurant for dinner. It was a lot of fun.
If you are going to Raleigh area and want a quiet place to stay, I highly recommend staying with Barbara!
I will do it again if I return to the area again. Thanks Barbara and Bill for the good times!!
I had a wonderful time staying with Barbara. She is ever so fascinating to talk with about a whole range of interesting topics, and she is a wealth of knowledge about the Raleigh-Durham area for those new to the area. Her home is relaxing and clean, the neighborhood is beautiful, and the trees! If you get a chance to come in early spring you'll be blessed to watch the dogwood's flower, as well as a slew of other beautiful early blooming trees. But I'm sure the flora most of the year round will provide amazement if you miss early spring.
Barbara was great. She worked with me on figuring out Raleigh and pointed out places to check out. I'm new moving here and didn't have a place yet, so the advice was greatly appreciated.
She has a few customers for her classes in and out, which take place in a back room, but other than that her place is very quiet and a great place to relax. It's lakefront in a quiet neighborhood and only about 15 mins from downtown Raleigh and probably 5-10 mins from the airport. She's into yoga and other body exercises, so if you were looking for some guidance, I'm sure Barbara would be happy to talk about it.
Barbara is kindhearted and very agreeable to stay with. She has a strict diet (as do I), which was nice, and we got along great. I'd highly recommend staying with her if you're in the area and need a relaxing, welcoming place to stay.
About the Host, Barbara
I love to travel but don't always have the chance, so I can live vicariously through having people visit me. I went to college in Beverly, Massachusetts, lived in lots of places, and ended up in Raleigh for the past 30 years. After raising 2 kids, taking care of my mom and losing my English Mastiff to old age I'd love to get back to traveling. I work for myself doing bodywork to help rid people of accumulated stress and pain. Gardening, swimming in the ocean and exercise are some of my favorite things to do.
