I live in a siheyuan : a traditional courtward house built under the mind dynasty. It is now shared by several Chinese families.
This reservation is for the entire home. It has ONE bedroom and can accomodate TWO people on a queen sized bed. There is also a small bed that can fit ONE person. This apartment can fit a total of 3 people
What to expect
My neighborhood is probably the loveliest in Beijing: two minutes walking distance from the lakes and the Beihai park, plenty of restaurants, cafe and shops as well as historical mansions, all connected by the peaceful and exotic hutongs or "narrow roads". the closest subway stop on line 6 exit B is a 2 minutes walk from my place.
My area is quite animated on week ends as it is a leisure destination for many beijinger but when the wooden doors of my "mini forbidden city" are closed all you can hear is the sound of the wind in the trees.
My neighbors are local people, they don't speak English and they are quite curious to have a stranger among them but they are really nice people.
In Winter, a hutong home can be quite cold (even with the heater on, the temperature usually doesn't go above 20 c.) summers are hot and humid, but a siheyuan is usually cooler than modern buildings as the walls are really thick.
The house is composed of a "window gallery" overlooking the courtyard, a living space with a twin bed used as a sofa or a guest bed, a bedroom with a queen size bed, a kitchen and a bathroom. The kitchen and the bathroom are pretty small but functional. I painted most of the walls and decorated with the Chinese artifacts I am collecting so it looks very much like a little museum.
The place is perfect for a single person or a couple.
I have a work table so is also suitable for an artist (I am an artist myself).
There are some disadvantages to living in a courtyard house: there is not a lot of privacy as we are all sharing the courtyard, it is not possible to have loud parties at night: the neighbors goes to bed early, the air conditioner and heater are not as affective as in modern houses.
Feel free to book directly or send me a message. Please understand that you may not come to view the home. The photos are of good quality and 100% genuine.
Julie's house is beautiful and in a great location for 'hutong wandering', relaxing and feeling like you're living in Beijing, moreso than being on holiday. Really enjoyed the stay and would definitely recommend for a quiet getaway!
bien situé et au coeur d'un hutong, ce petit séjour pékinois dans ce havre de paix restera gravé dans nos mémoires: accueil chaleureux, confort, et on n'a pas fini d'admirer toute la décoration!
Julie s place is amazing! Hutong atmosphere combined with artist s taste making this place unique. And Julie is soooooo charming and careful. Thank u. Hope to come again next year)
My trip to Beijing wouldn't have gone half as well without the surprisingly wonderful experience I had at Julie's. She is a delightful host and talented artist, whose home reflects her aesthetic. Her home is located in a hutong (one of those traditional Chinese neighborhoods that is rapidly disappearing), which was close to lots of nearby places of interest. Charmed all around!
