All the charm of a 1920s bungalow studio/1 bedroom apartment with a fresh sensibility--tranquil bedroom, living/kitchen, claw foot tub, large mediterranean garden. Simply furnished with a modern sensibility and family antiques. Views to Hollywood sign (in winter when the trees are bare!), Griffith Park observatory, a sliver of ocean, rolling hills. This quiet "granny flat" is the downstairs portion of a neighborhood hillside home. It is ideal for a quiet retreat with quick access to all the city has to offer.
Front garden is planted with succulents and California native plants which attract birds, bees, butterflies. Large terraced back yard with fruit trees, a patio for bbq's, a fire pit, and a terraced gentle slope. You are welcome to have fires or bbq's -- I just ask that you clean out the ashes afterwards. My friendly Australian cattle dog shares the back yard. She is generally very sweet & quiet, except for when the mailman visits. Grrr.
Near downtown LA, Pasadena, freeways. 20 minute drive to beach (when there's no traffic...). Walk to Elysian Park, Echo Park cafes. Plenty of street parking.
If you are two guests booking with a small child, please indicate 3 guests. The little ones are lovely, but they are often harder on the place, and on the cleaning lady. Thank you!
No film shoots please. Thank you!

We spent a few weeks here and really had the time to experience what it is like to live here… And well, to be honest, we are definitely going to miss it!
The apartment is nicely decorated and extremely quiet, though it is a few blocks away from very nice cafes and stores on Sunset Boulevard – Stories and FIX were our favorites. The neighborhood is lovely; quiet but not dull.
We had a space of our own, but Jessica was there whenever we needed advice or help for anything. We really enjoyed spending time with her and her tips for visiting LA and the desert were great.
And, last but not least, the garden is heaven on earth. The camelia tree was in bloom when we arrived; the passiflore had started blooming by the time we left, and in the meantime, we tasted the delicious peaches of the garden (pick them in the morning, when the sun is heating them…) I could've spent my whole stay just gazing at this garden (squirrels, hummingbirds and scrub-jays are there to entertain you).
Thank you so much, Jessica (and come visit us in Paris whenever you want!)
Jessica's little garden apartment is an oasis of calm. The windows provide a nice breeze, the rooms are tastefully decorated and there are new laundry machines in the basement steps away. But the best thing is just coming home to that peaceful garden. And Jessica is helpful and communicative. Thanks for a great stay! I may well be back.
It was spring so the Magnolia tree outside the kitchen window was in full bloom. My mom made breakfast every day in the well-stocked kitchen and loved working at the bedroom desk. When she left behind a sentimental object Jessica contacted me right away and arranged for it's return. If you live in the Silver Lake/Echo Park neighborhood and you'd like your visitors to stay close by and experience the boho hillside lifestyle, I highly recommend Jessica and her beautiful garden home.
The place is lovely if you're after a quiet place to stay in eastside LA, nestled up in the hills, close to Silverlake and downtown. The space itself is very nicely done – old-fashioned without feeling old, cozy – clearly a nice aesthetic sense has gone into it. It's a place that just feels nice in a way that's difficult to put into words. It's quite small but perfectly adequate. Things to know: it's below the main house so while you have access to the garden you won't see much in the way of views from your window; you can hear anyone walking upstairs pretty clearly – not so bothersome but noticeable; it's pretty dark up there and there's no light outside your door so coming back at night make sure to bring a light source. Also, as it's up in the hills with steep slopes all around, it's not great for taking walks unless you're ready for some strenuous exercise and it's not close to any shops – you have to drive every time you leave the house (which presumably most visitors to LA are prepared for). Also, this is not a truly fully stocked kitchen – it has the basics and you can prepare food there, but if you're big into cooking you'll need to bring some of your own things or get a little creative. The very old oven and stove looks super cool but only functioned so-so; the kettle was broken; no colander to rinse pasta – little things like that. All of that said, if you're aware of the limitations and okay with them you'll have a really nice stay, as we did.
We loved our stay! Absolutely beautiful garden in a perfect part of Echo Park. Jessica was a great host!
This is a quiet and peaceful suite boasting the perfect combination of vintage and modern. Clean, great vibes, great water pressure, private, easy street parking, quirky/charming/homey, great light. Watch out for the steep hills! Definitely a good place to stay when you want to escape the concrete and traffic. Didn't get awesome ATT phone coverage but even so we will likely be back! Jessica is really flexible and easy to work with too... it's a gem! bring your own coffee, pictures don't do it justice. It's really a special spot.
A beautiful and tranquil escape from the speed of LA. Jessica (and Ruby) made us feel very comfortable. Loved it!
Our entrance was private in the back of the home. The graduated gardens were lovely and a delightful place to enjoy our morning coffee. Inside we had bedroom, kitchen and full bath. This location was ideal for us as our daughter lives four blocks away. The only problem was the two mountains and one canyon between us, but we did manage to walk the distance. One evening during our four night stay, Jessica brought cookies out to us while our daughter and friend were having drinks with us on the back patio.
I would recommend this place for the quiet neighborhood and lovely homes in the area.
I loved staying in Jessica's garden retreat. It is a peaceful oasis with birdsong and stillness in the heart of LA - Jessica is very nice and mellow. An excellent host. Highly recommended!
Jessica was great! She hosted my mom while she was in LA and she absolutely loved the place and the beautiful garden out back. Its in the best part of Echo Park and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great place to stay while visiting.
