All the charm of a 1920s bungalow studio/1 bedroom apartment with a fresh sensibility--tranquil bedroom, living/kitchen, claw foot tub, large mediterranean garden. Simply furnished with a modern sensibility and family antiques. Views to Hollywood sign (in winter when the trees are bare!), Griffith Park observatory, a sliver of ocean, rolling hills. This quiet "granny flat" is the downstairs portion of a hillside home. It is ideal for a quiet retreat with quick access to all the city has to offer.
Front garden is planted with succulents and California native plants which attract birds, bees, butterflies. Large terraced back yard with fruit trees, a patio for bbq's, a fire pit, and a terraced gentle slope. You are welcome to have fires or bbq's -- I just ask that you clean out the ashes afterwards.
My friendly Australian cattle dog shares the back yard. She is generally very sweet & quiet, except for when the mailman visits. Grrr.
Near downtown LA, Pasadena, freeways. 20 minute drive to beach (when there's no traffic...). Walk to Elysian Park, Echo Park cafes. Plenty of street parking.
No film or photo shoots please. Thank you!
Apartment, garden with grapefruit trees and fire pit (and nice view), laundry.
There is street parking.
Interaction with Guests
The garden is shared, so sometimes we run into each other and have a nice chat. Other times we don't see each other at all. I'm always available via text / phone for any questions, etc.
Love the quiet, the views, the trees, the friendly neighborhood, the location close to everything and the freeways but tucked away and bucolic.
I also love the access to culture and good food both in the neighborhood and minutes away in Downtown LA and Silverlake.
There's a "Dash" bus line two blocks away, but be aware that one of those blocks is very steep. Otherwise closest main bus line is 1.5 miles walk.
Other Things to Note
If your stay is longer than 6 days, I may ask for an additional mid-stay cleaning or a cleaning fee supplement of $65 per cleaning, as longer stays make my cleaning lady's job more difficult, and I like to compensate her accordingly.
Also, if you are two guests booking with a small child, please indicate 3 guests. The little ones are lovely, but they are often harder on the place, and on the cleaning lady. Thank you!
one queen futon bed. ok for 2 adults and 1 small child.
Yes: enjoy yourself, enjoy the yard, enjoy the fire pit, enjoy the bbq, enjoy the quiet neighborhood.
Please make sure to keep the gate closed so the dog stays safe in the yard.
No: smoking, no parties, respect quiet hours after 10 p.m., no drugs, no pets.
Jessica's place is wonderfully nonchalant and shows a great sense of style! She has been a generous and very uncomplicated host.
This was my second stay at Jessica's place. I love it. It is quiet and comfortable and Jessica is the perfect welcoming host. Love the garden, love the neighborhood. It's my favorite place to stay in Echo Park, I'lll be back!
Jessica was a wonderful host- welcoming me into her home, in addition to being accommodating and helpful. I honestly fell in the love with the accommodations and felt quite at home. The decor was beautifully done and cosy, and the outdoor garden was a haven. It was peaceful to read and work in the garden, and my favorite, was to watch the sun rise and set. The neighborhood was quiet, safe and well situated. I look forward to my next visit and stay!
This place was the perfect oasis in Echo Park. The place is cozy and perfectly stocked with everything you need. The outdoor space for me though was my favorite part of the experience. I would feel comfortable staying there for a night or a more long term stay. Jessica was a great host and I look forward to staying here again next time I am in LA.
This place is the perfect private oasis to relax and watch the sunset after a long day. Jessica is down to earth and approachable, and I would not think twice to recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel at home. Her dog ruby is also a total sweetheart. My sincerest thanks to you Jessica for softening our crash-landing in LA!
Just another rave review for this place. We stayed here for our first month in Los Angeles, while looking for our own apartment, so it truly became home. It couldn't have been better for us: peaceful, beautiful, in a great location. We enjoyed so many sunsets sitting and dining in the garden, and Jessica was a lovely host. I felt like I was living in my own little private writing retreat. If you just need a spot to stay in Echo Park while doing your own thing, it's super comfortable, but if you have the time to really enjoy the space itself, even better. Great for any writers or other artists, I can't say enough good things about it. Magical!
We spent a few weeks here and really had the time to experience what it is like to live here… And well, to be honest, we are definitely going to miss it!
The apartment is nicely decorated and extremely quiet, though it is a few blocks away from very nice cafes and stores on Sunset Boulevard – Stories and FIX were our favorites. The neighborhood is lovely; quiet but not dull.
We had a space of our own, but Jessica was there whenever we needed advice or help for anything. We really enjoyed spending time with her and her tips for visiting LA and the desert were great.
And, last but not least, the garden is heaven on earth. The camelia tree was in bloom when we arrived; the passiflore had started blooming by the time we left, and in the meantime, we tasted the delicious peaches of the garden (pick them in the morning, when the sun is heating them…) I could've spent my whole stay just gazing at this garden (squirrels, hummingbirds and scrub-jays are there to entertain you).
Thank you so much, Jessica (and come visit us in Paris whenever you want!)
I like to provide a simple, quiet space from which you can explore the city or in which you can get work done. I have a small graphic design studio, and appreciate the details.
