Located just three miles north of downtown Hilo, right next to Honolii beach park and surf spot, the small plantation style neighborhood of Paukaa has just what your looking for in a clean, comfortable, quite place to stay. Growing up, and living on the Big Island, I was always drawn to this area.
The room I have to offer has a queen size bed, and the common bathroom for guests is adjacent to that, complete with walk in shower. There is a great view from the lanai entering the house ,with an ocean view to one side and a pasture view on the other side. I live in the master bedroom on the other end of the house and have my own private bath and shower, so the common bathroom is primarily for guests in the house and general use.
The kitchen is at the heart of this home, and is fully accessible for use by guests. The large island in the kitchen is the hub of all kitchen entertaining, but feel free to relax out on the lanai, or find a couch to kick back and enjoy a cold drink or snack. If that's the case, you might as well put in a load of laundry, found downstairs. Wi-fi is also available
Sitting at the top of a small paved road, the property backs up against a large plot of land formerly used for sugar cane, but now provides grazing land for a few goats and some cows in the distance. Look the other way from the pasture view on the lanai, and you see the ocean, and the sunrise view.
Part of the "old Mamaloha Highway" is still used as a scenic drive,or walk, to the local beach park of Honolii, just around the corner. This short and beautiful adventure to the beach takes you over several old bridges and provides great waterfall views of the Honolii stream, and the smaller creeks that feed into it.
Attention to detail was considered in many aspects to the home, as many skilled craftsmen helped me during the construction of the house several years ago. My intension was to always have a place for friends and visitors to stay and enjoy this beautiful home, and this great area that it is nestled in. Thanks, and hope to meet you soon, Jeremiah
General respect of others in the neighborhood are key to enjoying this space. Parking in the appropriate places allows people to come and go without hassle.
Please listen to music, but keep it at decent levels, and keep it quiet by 10pm.
No smoking in the house or on lanai, downstairs
Laundry area is used by many, rules are posted
Stayed a week in Jeremiah's place, and it was a fine week, indeed. He is a laid back guy, interesting to talk with, though a busy man and not at home more often than not. House was clean and lovely, located in a residential neighborhood. I prepared meals every night and had use of fridge. Large, clean bathroom for my own use... what's not to like. Bella, the pooch, is a sweet, gentle old gal, and no trouble at all. Highly recommend this place for easy access to Hilo and Hamakua coast. Mahalo, Jeremiah.
Jeremiah is a very welcoming and funny guy and even invited us joining an evening out with his friends. His place is really nice and just looks exactly like on the pictures. The room is spacious as is the cooking/living area of the house which we were also able to use. A beach with some nice surf is close, Hilo is just a few mins away. We had a nice stay there and would definitely recommend it!
We had a wonderful time at Jeremiah´s place. He is nice and easy going, not home much. He gave us good guidelines what to see. Nice room and big bathroom. Its defiantly worth staying on that side a couple of days. The nature is so beautiful and lush and everything is very authentic.
This is a beautiful sunny home minutes away from Hilo, with masterful woodwork, a quiet, comfy, clean setting, and a very welcoming host. Just a touch tricky to find (mind the side street). There's a peep view of the ocean, and the surrounding farm grounds are picturesque. Jeremiah was very welcoming, enthusiastic to point out various tips for touring, but at the same time, left us with much privacy (as he's mostly away working). We only regret not planning an extra night to grab a beer in town with him! Jeremiah's place is very well presented.
Our stay at Jeremiah's place was great. His house is located in a safe, quiet neighborhood, our room was spacious and the whole house looked just nice. Jeremiah was really friendly and he gave us good tips to explore the area.
So happy to have met Jeremiah and it was just great staying at his great place. Thanks for all!

I grew up here on the Big Island and in the Sierras of Northern California, enjoying the best of both worlds. Hawaii has been my home for well over twent five years and I still enjoy exploring the island and find new adventures. I surf close to home at Honolii, and keep busy with several woodworking projects at various places around the east side of the island. I love to travel, mostly in the south pacific so far. I like good food, good people and good wine
