The Space

Located just three miles north of downtown Hilo, right next to Honolii beach park and surf spot, the small plantation style neighborhood of Paukaa has just what your looking for in a clean, comfortable, quite place to stay.  Growing up, and living on the Big Island, I was always drawn to this area.
The room I have to offer has a queen size bed, and the common bathroom for guests is adjacent to that, complete with walk in shower. There is a great view from the lanai entering the house ,with an ocean view to one side and a pasture view on the other side. I live in the master bedroom on the other end of the house and have my own private bath and shower, so the common bathroom is primarily for guests in the house and general use.
The kitchen is at the heart of this home, and is fully accessible for use by guests. The large island in the kitchen is the hub of all kitchen entertaining, but feel free to relax out on the lanai, or find a couch to kick back and enjoy a cold drink or snack.  If that's the case, you might as well put in a load of laundry, found downstairs. Wi-fi is also available
Sitting at the top of a small paved road, the property backs up against a large plot of land formerly used for sugar cane, but now provides grazing land for a few goats and some cows in the distance. Look the other way from the pasture view on the lanai, and you see the ocean, and the sunrise view.
Part of the "old Mamaloha Highway" is still used as a scenic drive,or walk, to the local beach park of Honolii, just around the corner. This short and beautiful adventure to the beach takes you over several old bridges and provides great waterfall views of the Honolii stream, and the smaller creeks that feed into it.
Attention to detail was considered in many aspects to the home, as many skilled craftsmen helped me during the construction of the house several years ago. My intension was to always have a place for friends and visitors to stay and enjoy this beautiful home, and this great area that it is nestled in. Thanks, and hope to meet you soon, Jeremiah

  • Our stay with Jeremiah was great! The room was clean and inviting as well as the bathroom. Jeremiah was very welcoming and happy to answer any questions we had. The location was great too, close to town but also in a quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend Jeremiah as a great host!

  • Me and my boyfriend had such a great time at Jeremiah's house. His place is just amazing. We really felt like at home. As everybody can see on the pictures, the inside of his house is made of wood. He builds houses and made all the inside by himself, it is very beautiful, original and clean. We really felt like we were in Hawaii. And about him, nothing bad to say. He, his girlfriend and his dog (Bella) are just great people and very easy going. I would recommend this place to anybody that has a car. Unfortunatly, there is no bus station near from his house and he lives at 10 minutes of downton Hilo. But actually, if you have to go anywhere in Hilo, you really need a car so, rent one and go at Jeremiah's house :).

  • I loved the woodwork Jeremiah put into this house. You can tell the amount of care and attention put into it. The place is clean, tidy and comfortable. Jeremiah was easy going. I would stay here again next time I go to Hilo.

  • Jeremiah is a super nice person! He is so kind. He made time to show me around and talk with me although he was tired after working. He is a person who makes people feel comfortable. And his dog Bella also makes you feel relax. She is so cute and friendly. I felt at home. And the house is wonderful and smells very wood and nature! I wanted to stay more than two days! I highly recommend his place!

  • We enjoyed our two day stay at Jeremiah's lovely wood crafted home. The private room and the bathroom are meticulously designed and spacious as is the rest of the house. The country sites including a pasture of cows and goats nearby, ocean and mountain view and the quick drive to Hilo made this a great place to stay. Jeremiah and Angelique were wonderful hosts, and sweet Bella, their dog, greeted us every chance she had. We would love to stay there again.

  • The stay at Jeremiah's place was just awesome. Located near Hilo the house provides great comfort and everything you need: five minute drive to downtown Hilo, 2 minute drive to a good surf spot, 10 minute to the airport of Hilo and lots of good restaurants with far more character than the tourism region Kona. Jeremiah and Angelique were great company - we shared lot for stories, had drinks and dinner. Above that there's this dog - Bella - which is not just watching for high security but also big fun :D loved it.

  • We had a really nice time in this beautiful place! Unfortunately, we didn't meet Jeremiah but we met Angelique and the dog Bella. Angelique was really noce and she showed us the place.

We had a busy schedule. The place is perfect, we had everything we needed. The dog is lovely and we had a lot fun looking at her while she was sleeping (weird position on the sofa!!). We highly recommend this place. It is close to Hilo. We would definetely come back at this place.

  • Jeremiah's accommodation is just great! Beautiful, clean house, big private bathroom, enough shelfs, etc in the bedroom for all your things, big kitchen. Jeremiah is very welcoming and he knows the island very well and gave us helpful advices on how to spend our days. Highly recommended place!
(And the frogs are not at all as noisy as we expected - we slept very well!)

I grew up here on the Big Island and in the Sierras of Northern California, enjoying the best of both worlds. Hawaii has been my home for well over twent five years and I still enjoy exploring the island and find new adventures. I surf close to home at Honolii, and keep busy with several woodworking projects at various places around the east side of the island. I love to travel, mostly in the south pacific so far. I like good food, good people and good wine
