  • L’endroit est vraiment en pleine nature, les fruits du petit déjeuner étaient très bons. L’appart est spacieux et à tout ce qu’il faut pour passer un bon moment

  • My parents and I stayed in Joel's apartment for two nights in March 2014, and had a great time. The place is spacious and very clean, and we just loved the patio outside, where we had breakfast and dinner. The frogs were a lovely background music.

Joel gave us the wonderful tip to visit the local farmer's market just up the road (walking distance, every Tuesday afternoon), where we found local fruit, bread and cheese.

We had a great time, and would love to come back!

  • The place is great for people who are looking to sleep in the middle of the jungle. The sounds at night of frogs are amazing and really make you feel like you are away from all society which is wonderful. The fruits provided for breakfast were really fresh and the hosts were really nice and responded very fast to our messages.

  • We were less than satisfied with our experience at H.A.P.I. We had to initiate every interaction for information, including house instructions and directions the day of our check in. In the airbnb add it looks like you're getting a whole house. NOT THE CASE. What we did rent was a small apartment in the back of the house, that DID NOT include a kitchen. It was a small kitchenette if you could call it that. There was no room to cook anything in there, with a tiny mini fridge that was not even plugged in anticipating our arrival. When we arrived we had no access to the game room, we didn't even see it our entire 3 night stay. We did get to use the bikes only after asking, and they were only provided for us one day and then put away where we did not have access to them. The apartment itself looks really nice in the photos, but it was pretty ghetto. Doors did not have door knob hardware, the front doors doorknob was totally loose. The closet near the kitchen reeked of mold/mildew. I used to clean houses professionally, so I have an eye for cleanliness. The house was NOT CLEAN. I had to wipe out the shower/tub with a towel, as it looked like it was just rinsed with water to "clean" it from the previous users. There was a huge hair on the fridge that I saw immediately. The floors were disgusting. It looked like if any sweeping was done, it was around furniture (which the accommodations were seriously lacking in), so when I moved the table at the foot of the bed to use for a coffee table in front of the couch, there was some serious dust/nastiness going on. On the lanai there was a rusty washer dryer covered with an old nasty sheet, and something was going on with the plumbing on the outdoor sink so that it leaked and left kind of a rank puddle of grossness on the ground next to it. Even the steep path up to the back entry/lanai had loose cement blocks, which was annoying when carrying all of our luggage up to the house. Also, the house was shared! There was no indication of this in the bnb add. The bedroom wall was shared with another bedroom. We had our toddler along, and she often cries during the night, one of the reasons were booking a house. Our shared neighbors also had their light on until 3 am, and it shined directly into the bedroom we were staying in, through the blinds on our window. It literally illuminated the room, and greatly disturbed our babies sleep. One other thing that really peeved me. Free fruit breakfast is only served the first day of your stay. Well that would have been nice to know in advance, as there we were day 2 wondering where fresh fruit was with our hungry crying baby. Can't recommend this place!

  • We spent there only one night arriving (email hidden)e place is really big with a big comfy bed(long enough for my boyfriend...the most here are just 1,90).it could have been really quiet at night but unfortunately they have an attached apartment which they rent(didn't know) and you can here almost everything and there were children crying at night so we didn't sleep a lot.the kitchen is just a sink with a fridge and a coffe machine (but no coffee).the bed sheets were parfumed and ironed(lovely candles to lit in a corner)unfortunately hair in the shower(not mine.we met Joel the night before and he was communicative .unfortunately we left at 9.30 the day after and no one was in sight,no instructions in the room so we didn't get any fruit bowl like we read and that was really disappointing because there is no shop around and we calculated to have some fruit before going hiking.I think what we paid was too much for the place and the local standard here.

  • Thank you Joel! Stay was good. Joel met us in the driveway right as we pulled up. Accommodations were clean and Joel was helpful with lending us a hot plate and pot for cooking. Great towels. Thank you!

  • Location location location! We had travelled and stayed in different areas on big Island. If you are planning to stay in ONE place to explore the entire island- this should be your base. You can get to the Volcanos easily, Hilo and Waipio Valley as wel as Puna are down the road. But even Kona can be easily reached via the Saddle Road.
The highlight for us was sleeping amongst the noises of the jungly garden, Frogs squirking etc

Joel was incredibly friendly and forthcoming and helped out when ever we needed his assistance.
We were attracted by the wooden interior decor and what you see is what you get. However the picture of the billiard table is a bit misleading as its actually in the bigger apartment next door, to which we did not have access. The major drawback (for us) was the basic kitchenette. Its facilitates just enough to make toast and set Coffee and warm up food in the microwave. We did ask for some bowls so we could have muesli and salads at least, which Joel brought over immediately.

Ah, and we did not get a complementary fruit bowl as stated in the text, but a small pack of coffee. Also (not that this was advertised ) there was no washing machine on site.

set all aside the price was very good!

The bottom line: its fabulous for two who only want a quick breakfast but have no need to prepare food.

  • The room we had was great we ha our own private bathroom and sitting room with a very basic kitchen. Joel was very friendly and helpful.

  • We spent one night in this unit and it made us feel like we were truly in a tropical rainforest. The place was well furnished, great value and had everything we needed. The location is perfect for those that want to visit Akaka Falls and is also close enough to downtown Hilo. Thank you to the host for this amazing experience.

  • Unfortunately our trip was cancelled. But Joel & Lani's willingness to accommodate us at the last minute was without hesitation. Constant communication and instant reply was exceptional. A breath of fresh air to work with two wonderful individuals. Sad we didn't have a chance to stay but am definitely going to book it again. We want to see first hand their little peace of paradise.
