Nice cozy fresh room. Clean nice bathroom. Kitchen parking and everything that you may need is there. Ver very close to the sea shopping center and quick exit to highways. Guissepe is very nice helpful along with everyone that lives in the house..that includes tequila and the cats. It is a bit loud the generator outside the window and you can hear the gate open and close. There are no signs outside the porperty is better to call in advance.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Villa Pirata, the people living there were very friendly and helpful: they waited for us in front of the train station when we arrived, they took us to the supermarket to do our shopping and to the city center by car. They also recommended some great nearby places to visit (Giuseppe is a tour guide). We had interesting conversations about shared experiences and the life in this part of Italy.
Although many of the houses near the villa are abandoned, the area is safe, even to walk around at night.
The beach is really close (rocky beach, some footwear is recommended), in the evening you can watch the local fishermen catch their dinner. :)
Unfortunately the bikes they used to give to guests were stolen, so there are none at the moment. The bus is a bit unreliable: either late or too early, never on time :) but in 15 minutes, give or take, it takes you to the center.
We recommend the Villa Pirata to people who do not expect a hotel with reception and swimming pool :) but rather an authentic 'barese' experience.
We stayed in the Villa Pirata for three nights and really enjoyed our time there. Although we were away most of the time to visit Bari, we felt very welcome and free to come and go as we wanted. Even though the house isn't close to the city centre, it is easy to reach while the autobus takes you in 20 minutes to the city. The room and bathroom were clean (as the rest of the house). It is a great place for students who are travelling in the south of Italy and who don't want to spend much on housing.
This place is probably the cheapest airbnb around Bari but I would not recommend staying here. The room was dirty and smelly. There is only a small window in the room so there is little daylight and hardly any ventilation. The villa itself was smelly of the many dogs living there. The bathroom was used by others, despite the promise it would be for our private use. The people who live in Villa Pirata are all very nice but they need to do more to make this an attractive airbnb.
Thanks so much to the folks at Villa Pirata for having us! The room was nice and as described. Everyone was chill, laid-back and really friendly. The dogs are sweet, if a bit naughty, and the cat (we only met one, but there are more) was such a funny little guy! We had our own refrigerator and free use of all the common space. We were very comfortable! The only thing I would note is that there are a lot of people smoking inside. This was totally fine by me, and I chatting and smoking with Giuseppe and his lovely girlfriend. However, if smoke really bothers you, it might not be the best set-up.
As other reviewers noted, the place is a ways outside of Bari's downtown, but it is right on the sea. There is even a little beach area at the end of the street - it's beautiful! Also, the bus drops you right by the house, so getting to/from town is easy enough. Just take note that the are infrequent and don't always keep to a schedule, so you will want to leave yourself plenty of time if you are trying to catch a train in/out, for example.
Bari is also a good base for getting to other places. We visited Polignano a Mare while we were there, and it is easily one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!
Thanks again to everyone!
