Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Staying in the 1100 sq ft Yellow House is going back in time. Near the famous Skagit Flats, Blanchard Mountain and the Chuckanuts, Samish and Padilla Bays, and the historic town of Edison. Quality, simple. A clean, well lighted place. Private gardens.

The space
This is a lovely old settler home situated in the island's interior with well-established gardens. It is comfortably furnished with one bedroom hosting a queen bed, one room with a single bed, and the third room an office space. The house most easily accommodates three adults or two adults and one child. (Given the right situation, we can bring out a trundle or mattress on the floor.) The Yellow House has a full kitchen (hand wash dishes) with a small dining area, and a living room. Natural light floods into every room of the house. There is central heating as well as a wood-burning stove. The one small yet utilitarian bathroom has been fully renovated.
The Yellow House has NO TV or movie screen. Wi-fi is strong and guests can use personal devices to stream entertainment.
Samish Island is tranquil and has many wonderful walks and bike rides along the neighborhood roads. You cannot see the water from the Pioneer House itself, although many of these walks have views of Puget Sound. There is one small public beach (rocky!) which is a 3-minute drive away, and the entrance to the island now has a forest trail and beach access through Skagit Land Trust's Samish Flower Farm. Larger public beaches are 15-20 minutes away at Padilla Bay State Park or Larrabee State Park. Hiking on nearby Blanchard Mountain or in Larrabee State Park is exceptional. The quaint town of Edison - a five-mile drive - offers good eating options and a couple sports bars. A few of these restaurants such as the popular Tweets are only open Friday - Sunday. There are other good restaurant choices open every day along Chuckanut Drive. We have a guide of local restaurants and hikes in the Yellow House. The closest grocery store is 25 minutes away in Burlington, so guests should stock up on needed supplies before arriving.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the house, except for the upstairs attic. The YellowHouse has its own private yard space.

Other things to note
* NO PETS ALLOWED. Please don't ask for exceptions.
* Ingress: The door will be unlocked with the keys on the table or hanging on a hook should you choose to lock the house while here.
* Internet : The Yellow House has a dedicated Internet service. When you arrive you will be given the connecting password.
* Cell phone service varies and is spotty on Samish Island. Verizon and T Mobile seem to do okay for the most part and AT&T a little less so. If you have a smart phone with Wi-fi calling capabilities, we suggest you enable that function and then you should be fine.

Neighborhood highlights

Samish Island is a unique community on a drive-on island just south of Bellingham (30 minutes) and minutes from the communities of Bow-Edison. It lays in the quiet waters of Samish & Padilla Bays and is 1 hour from Vancouver, B.C.; 1.5 hours north of Seattle, and 30 minutes northeast of Anacortes. People come here for myriad reasons: winter birding, biking the Samish and Skagit Flats, hiking the Chuckanuts, kayaking, the Tulip Festival, events in the picturesque town of La Conner (25 minutes), crabbing and beach combing, being a foodie in Bow-Edison, or to launch an adventure into the North Cascades Mountains (1.5 hours). Samish Island itself has over 100 acres of protected forest and shoreline that is open to the public and protected through Skagit Land Trust.

I am an executive coach and OD consultant. My spouse is from Canada and runs a nonprofit. Our 2 sons are from Ethiopia. We've lived internationally a lot and still like to venture out; Washington is a wonderful state to call home. We live right next to the Pioneer House so we can help you with your stay if needed, but we are private and not into being in your way. In terms of the Alaska Junction Townhouse in West Seattle, you are on your own. We are a phone call away if you want to touch base, and have a liaison in West Seattle should something really come up. We welcome people from all walks of life, faiths, perspectives, and from all over the world. We are LGBTQ+ and BLM.
