About this listing
Our laid back and quite classy home for strays has been booked all season but we have several days in September available right now if you'd like to grab them. This is a home with several adoring dogs, who will only wander up to your suite on invitation, lest they disturb your stay in a luxuriously large room with its half bath, Persian rugs, painted furniture, full-size bed, comfy chair and corner office. But once you decide to kick back in the courtyard garden, prepare to be adored!
Zoe Mae will loudly announce your arrival. Then you'll know you've come to the right place.
The minute you walk through the gate of my colorful 1920's bungalow in the heart of North Portland, you'll leave the day behind you and step into a whole different world.
My sophisticated and secret urban garden, featured in many magazines, is filled with botanical treasures, secret spaces and amazing fountains, with lots of room to sit, sleep, wi-fi or kick back with a drink.
Once through the lime green front door, you'll find works by NW artists, a gorgeous, light-filled kitchen nook and a posse of four-legged friends: Milo the blonde ball boy and Zoe Mae, the world's only vacuum cleaner with a tail. This is a home where animals rule!
Milo and Zoe Mae will take you upstairs to your big and colorful skylight suite with its own desk, reading chair and half-bathroom. The shared shower is downstairs. The vegetarian-only kitchen can be made available on request and one of us will do your laundry, no charge. All you need to bring is your curiosity about this fabulous, open-hearted city and a respect for all living things, great and small.
Our tree-lined neighborhood is easy walking to buses and MAX, morning-to-night coffee shops (my fave is Coffee House 5), restaurants, groceries and a gorgeous European-style park. We're right in-between the Alberta Arts District and historic Mississippi Ave, both filled with all the best micro-everything Portland has to offer.
If you're looking for your independence but feel grounded by animals, great art and gardens, come stay with us!
You are most welcome to turn on the garden fountain, sit on rocking chairs or pull out the lounger and zone out for hours. The kitchen is steps away where you can stash your preferred brew. If you need an evening at home, the big screen TV room loaded with Netflix is yours for the asking. Other than sharing the downstairs shower, it's entirely up to you how visible/invisible you'd like to be.
Interaction with Guests
The dogs and I are often around and available, but I'm all about privacy - yours and mine. i cannot vouch for the irrepressible young Milo who will try his hardest to impress you with his stuffed toys. Zoe Mae, however, will keep a more mature distance.
Aside from its easy access to the N Mississippi, N Williams and N Alberta Street neighborhoods, my little corner of North Portland boasts one of the city's most beautiful public spaces, Peninsula Park. It's just celebrated it's 100th birthday with hundreds of new rose plantings, which perfume the air for blocks. Not to be missed!
Easy! Lots of convenient public transit to anywhere in PDX plus ample street parking. We're 15 min from the airport by taxi, @50 min using Max transit.
Other Things to Note
All the products in my home are cruelty-free, from shampoo to cleaning supplies. I take animal welfare pretty seriously; so do my animals!
You are most welcome to cook here as long as it's vegetarian. Thanks, too, for not putting on perfume or strong aftershave inside. And since the animals and I wake early, I prefer you're back from your adventures before 11pm. Those are the big ticket items, we can negotiate the rest!
And here's the upstairs 400 sq ft suite, with its own half bathroom (orange towels, right).
