BE CAREFUL WITH LYDIA. She was NOT honest and was very RUDE.
She kicked me out of the house, just for making complains about thing that were not ok with the house. Issues about the downstairs rooms and common areas:
1.The kitchen was not clean and not complete, there was only 1 mug, no can opener, no kitchen roll paper replacement, no kitchen towel replacement, etc.
2.The house was NOT clean ( dishes and glasses dirty, dirt in the floor, laundry with lots of spider webs)
3.The TV did not work.
4. Only one Fire extinguisher (last recharge 2008...)
We were three guest staying in the house downstairs, and all of us complained about this issues. Mary was very nice and helpful, and she really did get thing better. But Lydia´s reaction was unbelievable rude. Not only she kicked me out at the third day, but she charged me 40 usd/night, when the arrangement we had was 27 usd/night for 1 month.
If anybody wants photos or the complete messages feel free to write an email to me ((email hidden))) I was not rude in the mails I wrote asking for all the things that were missing in the house.
At first Lydia was thankful and told me: "I like to thank you for informing me about the missing and broken items in my home. I wish every guest would let me know so we can take care of it rightaway and not wait until a new guest arrive and has to deal with it."
I believe it is not the responsibility of the guests to check if everything is clean, complete, running and functioning.
Lydias words: "You tell the other guests my neighborhood is not safe but you stay before around the corner and still like to stay in my neighborhood. You telling me lies about the dishwasher being broken and my home is not clean. You making the other guest upset and I will not allow it. You are correct, you dont have to be nice to the other guests and use one of the bathrooms upstairs, so I wont you out of my home right now."
She accused me of "not being nice to the other guests and upseting them", when we had an excellent relationship with all the other guests, they even asked Lydia NOT to kick me out because I was helpful with them. (Example: I walked with them to the Clinic, both in the morning and in the afternoon because they felt unsafe in the neighborhood)
(Although I think it was not so bad... you should be careful at night in the neighborhood)
The manner Lydia treated me is not how you should treat a guest. The house, in the conditions I found it is not worth the money she charges.
And if you decide to stay in her house... remember that she does not mind kicking you out, keeping your money and not following any rule.
I was more than satisfied with my stay at Lydia's. Her contact person Marty, is very warm and professional. She was accessible when needed. The place is very clean. The neighborhood is quiet, in walking distance of the bus line and close to Case, UH and the Cleveland Clinic. As with any place, I do advise that you are indoors by nightfall as Cleveland in general can sometimes be unsafe.
La casa es muy linda en un vecindario muy tranquilo. A poca distancia de la Cleveland Clinic y a 15 minutos del centro de la ciudad con la Healthline.
Before you book this location, know that this area in Cleveland is not a safe neighborhood. Do your research. Don't make the same mistake I did.
For my part, Lydia and I had an agreement to keep my dog outside while I was at work. I assumed that there would be a fenced in back yard. There wasn't. Despite unsafe conditions, I complied with our agreement and my dog stayed outside while I was at work. She was only inside when I was at the house.
Due to the following reasons I couldn't stay at the house any longer.
(1)It was not a safe place for me or my dog. My dog could have been stolen any day. The house is not in a safe neighborhood (you can confirm this fact by talking to people in Cleveland regarding East 82nd Street). It was surrounded by abandoned buildings and boarded up houses. I felt unsafe living there.
(2)The central air conditioner was broken. When I brought this up with the manager (because the host lives in another country) I was supposed to get an AC unit in my room - I never did because it was broken as well. Then the AC unit that was placed in the living room (not in my room) broke down also, and was not helping any of the rooms.
(3)The dishwasher was also broken.
In conclusion, I was very disappointed with my experience. I kept true to our agreement, but the house/location was not a good fit. If you are looking to stay someplace for an extended period of time, know that Lydia made it extremely difficult to change my dates and the whole ordeal took nearly a month to resolve.
If she was upfront and honest about all these issues I would have never stayed at the house and if she was not okay with my dog she never should have agreed to me staying there. In her review, she referred to my girlfriend living there too, when she was just visiting because I was going to be there for an extended period of time.
I hope this helps.
Staying at Lydia's home was great. It's a large house and there was only one other person staying there at the time. It's kind of like a hotel where each room has a looked door. I came and went as I needed and the house staff was friendly and nice. It was wonderfully convenient to Little Italy and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo where I needed to be.
