One important aspect that makes this casita more unique is it gives you a blend of both Centro and a more spacious, tranquil environment. You can easily get to Centro but return to a peaceful home with gardens, hummingbirds and amazing views. In addition, I LOVE San Miguel which was voted #1 Tourist Destination in the World by Conde Nast and want you to enjoy San Miguel too. I provide information on tours with locals that I personally know (eg horseback and ATV riding, rock climbing, day tours to Guanajuato etc). When I am going kayaking, to the hot springs, the mercado or a Mexican fiesta I will invite you to join me and/or provide transportation. You will have the opportunity to explore on your own but see more of San Miguel via the eyes of someone who lives here.
Guests will have access to Casita Danielita via a private entrance through a beautiful garden. The second floor casita and terraza has outside dining for six guests and there is a third floor terraza with outdoor kitchen & bar and sofa for reading & siestas. Wireless internet available throughout.
I am onsite in the casa on the first floor. Thus, I can be more readily available to assist you. At the same time I respect guests' privacy.
Safe street with a blend of lovely Mexican and ex-pat neighbors who look out for each other. This colonia was started as an artist community and some of the neighbours have taken on different projects for example, building a playground for the children. You can walk on the country dirt road to Centro and see children riding horses bareback and then 10 min later be on the bustling streets of San Miguel.
Bus runs every 10 minutes for $5 pesos (40 cents) from end of the cobblestone street directly to Luciernga Mall (Soriana supermarket, Office Depot, etc), Mega (supermarket), Tiangus Tuesday market and hospitals, etc. The same bus can drop you off where it is then approx 15 - 20 min level walk to the main jardin (garden) in Centro. If you prefer to not take the bus and walk from your casita there is a country dirt road to Centro approx 25 min walk or one can take a more leisurely walk to Centro through the hills behind your casita to Charco Botanical Gardens and down through a quaint neighbourhood to Centro. Lots of options and scenery. Taxis are available 24/7 if you prefer to walk (or bus) one way and cab home. Cabs cost approx $40-60 pesos ($3.50 - 5.00 USD). In addition, I check in with guests and will drive them or drop them off near their destination and we can arrange joint trips to the mercado, supermarket etc
The price per night/week etc is based on double double occupancy if double bed is used. The additional fee is if guests need to use both the bed and the futon in the sala. In addition, this is Mexico and there are more parades and cultural fiestas (versus "beach parties") than in many other areas on the coast. Thus, there are fireworks going off at times in the early morning to celebrate a family members' birthday or anniversary, music, and also roosters crowing, dogs barking etc. You will encounter this no matter where you stay in San Miguel. The casita, in general, is much more quiet than closer to Centro but it is important that guests know and appreciate this is Mexico. TEN Reasons People Like San Miguel de Allende (website hidden)_b(phone number hidden).html
A comfortable, enchanting stay for those who are willing to be a few minutes walk from San Miguel's historic center. Ditto to everything previous reviewers have written about magical views, Joey's artistic flair and wonderful hosting (she goes totally out of her way to make sure things work for you.)
Instead, let me weigh in on location. This is our favorite side of SMA (we just moved nearby, so know it pretty well - near Fabrica Aurora (the textile mill turned gallery, cafe and wandering space) Colonia Guadalupe (an emerging arts and mural district), and the road to Dolores Hidalgo (10 min. to La Gruta and a string of hotsprings). For the same price as a single bedroom in Centro, you get two floors of outdoor terraces and a much more neighborhood experience. A car would be great, but you can manage with walking, buses, and very cheap taxis. Highly recommend.
Joey's casita was beautiful and offered a true experience of a Mexican neighborhood just out of the downtown area of San Miguel de Allende, which we enjoyed. Joey was a lovely host who even invited us to her Academy Awards party when we arrived. She was helpful with calling taxis and in other ways since she is bilingual. The casita sets up on hill and affords a sunset every single night. A great Mexican experience.
This casita is a lovely refuge in SMA. It is quiet, fully appointed with 2 verandas that overlook the town and the mountains. We were very comfortable there for 8 nights.
Joey is a wonderful host. She helped us get situated when we arrived late at night and hungry - she called for a pizza and 2 beers to be delivered! She took us to the center of town on our first day, and invited us to join her on an excursion to the hot springs the next day.
The casita is about a 30 min. walk into town, but taxis are plentiful and inexpensive - about $3-$4 per trip. We hope we can return to Joey's casita some day.
We had a great time staying at Joey's. Her casita is on the north end of town so a car would be handy. However we made our way using taxis and the local buses which run frequently from the bottom of her road. The casita is well equipped for a couple and is adorned with photographs, paintings and pottery. Joey has a flair for putting things together and the garden is really beautiful as is the courtyard with the fountain. We often spent the morning on the terrazo which is a new addition. The sunsets were spectacular and we had a view of the entire city. Joey paid attention to the smallest detail to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. Thanks Joey!

The pictures on Airbnb are absolutely accurate, the Casita is just as beautiful as it is shown in the pix. It is clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Everything works - no issues. The weekly maid and laundry was timely and efficient. The view from the third floor terrazzo is incredible.
Joey is a wonderful host, warm and willing to share her time and knowledge of the area. She even introduced us to some other people whom she thought we should know, based upon getting to know us!
As a bird watcher, I was delighted to sit on the deck and add to my life list just by watching the birds that visited the lovely gardens. Regular visitors included the Hooded Oriole, Cactus Wren, Vermillion Flycatcher, Broad Billed Hummingbird, Violet Crowned Hummingbird, White winged and Inca doves, Northern Cardinal, and American Kestrel. Joey also made sure I got together with the local Audubon society.
Can't wait to go back!
Joey was the ideal airbnb host. She was helpful and generous with guidance, tips, daily necessities, and she even offered rides into Centro when she was on her way. (It is an easy 20-30 minute walk to Centro.) The casita is everything you could want: big, beautiful, clean, comfortable, fully furnished with all amenities including sofa, TV, radio, heaters, towels, dishes, silverware, all cooking accessories. The bed is soft and comfortable. Joey's gardens and many potted plants are gorgeous, and the private terrace is a wonderful spot to drink coffee or wine and read. I highly recommend Joey's casita to anyone considering spending some time in San Miguel de Allende. You will not be disappointed.
The casita is charming and beautiful and has its own private terrace which, if it is possible, is even more welcoming, since it offers spectacular views and is lit by the warm San Miguel sun. It is impossible to take a bad photograph in Joey's house. Her garden is beautiful, as well. She has done a remarkable job of affording the comforts of home, while still maintaining the dreamy feel of Mexico. (The kitchen was very well equipped). My daughter and I enjoyed the long walks into town, saying hello to Mexican nationals as well as the stray dogs and loose horse along the way. It was a perfect place to understand the full layout of San Miguel - although not close to Centro, we were there every day and able to participate fully, and yet could retreat to a splendid place in the hills with more authentic, less gentrified neighborhoods nearby. The colonia, Montes de Loreto, is a mixed and very interesting one, with quite a few artists in residence and the spirit of community. If you want a more intellectually stimulating experience, this would definitely be the place to go, rather than Centro.
Having never been to San Miguel and deciding to book a living space for a week was daunting. Joey did a fantastic job of presenting her space online as I was able to confirm visually when I arrived!
Joey was very helpful during my stay and went above host requirements by checking in and asking if I needed a lift when they were going out and about. It was nice feeling like I had my own space, yet having the comfort of people there, just in case.
