ERIE SHORE B&B ABOVE THE SEA
This charming 2 bedroom cottage is located on the shores of Lake Erie, in Erie, PA. It resides in the quaint residential neighborhood of Eaglehurst, secluded from touristy, high traffic areas, but in walking distance to pubs, eateries, a roller skating rink... and the awesome Waldameer water and amusement park ($5 discounted tickets for our guests).
You will have access to the neighborhood beach, just a 1 minute walk from the cottage... as well as a 5 minute drive to the beaches, hiking trails, boating, and fishing on Presque Isle peninsula.
Available is your own large bedroom with 2 queen beds and a private bath, plus the parlor, kitchen, sitting room, yard, and deck. The queen airbeds are new, self-inflating, squeaky clean... and you can adjust the firmness or softness of each mattress to your liking with the touch of a button, making them quite comfortable...as well as being able to adjust the temperature of each side of each bed independently... again, with the touch of a button. These beds make for a no bedbug stay.
Your room INCLUDES breakfast and lunch daily for each guest. We strive to serve the freshest and healthiest foods that include eggs, meats, fruits, juices, breads, coffees and teas.
The parlor, with its beautiful knotty pine ceiling is large, airy and open, with great light for reading, working, or relaxing. There you will find the warm fireplace, a table and chairs, TV, DVD player and wireless internet...and a sofa bed that's yours to enjoy, to watch TV in bed…even overnight.
Some of our guests greatly appreciate having the parlor after hours for themselves for tv, talking, reading, etc, while the kids are tucked away in their bedroom... something you cant do at the motel.
Diane and Lee will be your hosts from Fridays to Mondays, unless special arrangements are made for a mid week stay. (Monday-Thursday nights are considered mid-week, and if available, prices are higher). Mondays and Thursdays are available more around holiday weekends.
In some cases, there is a 2 night minimum for singles and doubles. Inquire within to see if your intended dates apply. Also, we offer multiple nights and multiple persons discounts. Currently, we offer a special rate for families with up to 2 children under 7.
We accept small CRATED dogs along with a pet fee of $15.
We can accommodate your car and boat or trailer with off street parking. You will be very comfortable in our home and in our neighborhood.
We are located from...
Presque Isle...5 minutes
downtown Erie....10 minutes
Millcreek Mall....10 minutes
all areas of the home and yard and neighborhood beaches.
Interaction with Guests
we interact with our guests just enough to take care of them while giving them the utmost privacy. their privacy and comfort are our number 1 concern.
our neighborhood is very unique to most others. besides its great location overlooking the sea, its a mix of homes with vastly varied architectures. we dont think there are any 2 homes in the entire neighborhood that are the same style. the people who live here are great...extremely friendly, open and warm
the bus lines travel down west lake road, a 2 minute walk from our home and we are a 5 minute drive from the airport
There is no smoking in the house. You may smoke outside. Only small crated dogs allowed, no other pets please.
We had a lovely time staying at B&B Above the Sea. Lee and Diane were so friendly and accommodating. They made sure to give us a very detailed run-down of where everything was, and how to be the most comfortable in the house. Most importantly, the space was clean. Kitchen, bathroom and bedroom MUST be clean for me to enjoy staying somewhere, and I was very pleased.
Lee is a great cook and made us breakfast to order. The house was warm and cozy, and even our three year-old had a great time. I wasn't sure if I would like being in such close quarters with the hosts, but they were great people to be with and chat with, it was really nice!
my stay with diane and lee was superb. they were great hosts and the
meals were delicious, so fresh and yummy. the house was great, very
cozy. they have a huge parlor with a fireplace and my bedroom was
very large with 2 queen beds... and still even more roominess. i found
the air beds to be great. very comfortable (i could adjust the
firmness and softness) and heated which was great, impeccably clean
the private bath, although not huge, was big enough for ease and
comfort. it was also impeccably clean. the location, right on the
lake, is awesome. i could come and go as i pleased as they left me a
key right where they said it would be.
this place was a superb value and less than local motels. would stay
What we liked - the host Lee put out snacks (popcorn and veggie sticks the first day, and berries for the second day) for my husband and myself. Lee was nice.
Somehow, even though this is a B&B, because the property is so very small, I thought it was not possible for more than guests to stay in such a small quarters. Well, I was wrong. This very small home was shared by the host and us. The air mattress was uncomfortable and the bathroom was infinitesimal. It is entirely possibly that I did not complete my due diligence, because if I had, I perhaps would have done better managing our expectations. Our stay very much resembled a stay in a European hostile; except we were locked out of the B&B, Lee said the key was left under the mat, but we must have forgot, being locked out is not fun, at all. I do not blame Lee for the accommodations, they are what they are, and probably were described as such; however, I think the price does not equate to the accommodations. Lastly, we did not have the opportunity to eat breakfast because the first morning it was not made before 9:30am and so we grabbed a bite out, and the second morning it was not made before 9:00am.
thanks for your feedback. let me address all of your issues if i may.
first, we are sorry to hear you had such an unpleasant experience given our history of taking care of our guests, which is evident by our history of reviews. i guess we cant please everyone, although we try.
i asked you, as i ask all guests , if the bed was ok and your reply was yes. past reviews confirm that the guests find the beds quite comfy.
you were never locked out. the key was where i said it would be when i locked the door, which was almost never. the storm door was locked when i was home and in the back yard. i do this for the safety of my family and our guests, even though we live in a very safe neighborhood. my car was there so you knew i was home. all you had to do was walk around back, but even that was not necessary as i came and unlocked the door within a minute of your arrival. maybe you were impatient at that moment (i can only guess). i also wondered what you did to the storm door as it was broken after that. it took me an hour to fix it.
i got up at 8am to make you breakfast and you had already run out to eat at 730am. and when i offered your husband breakfast, who was still in bed, he said he was fine. i had this beautiful breakfast display out for you and you passed....both mornings. and i never said i stopped cooking for guests, as the breakfast spread was evident..i said i stopped making separate breakfasts for each guest. you also declined to take a home made lunch with you for the day on both days.
as for having an extensive conversation outside my home, i have no idea what youre talking about. i was on the phone with an important call when you arrived, yes, but it had nothing to do with you. and i had it outside because i dont get good reception inside. and to feel like you were being assessed to whether i wanted you to stay borders on paranoia. thats an assessment a host makes when a request is made, not when a guest just arrives.
you might examine your expectations in staying in someones home before you stay in someones home. we are not a motel. from the start i felt you kept me at arms length and now i can see why. your husband was much warmer and congenial and i appreciated that. and you leaving without saying goodbye, just getting in your car and going, might fit within how you were feeling, although at the time i was flabergasted that you did that.
again, as i host, i am sorry you had an unpleasant experience. i hope your future experiences are better elsewhere.
Diane and Lee are terrific. Communication was clear and prompt, and they kindly asked in advance about preferences for breakfast. I met Diane only briefly, but Lee is friendly, interesting, and helpful and makes perfect soft-boiled eggs. The cottage itself is cute and impeccably clean; the street is quiet and green; and it's perfectly located for anyone who wants to be near Presque Isle or downtown Erie. Highly recommended.
We had a great stay at Diane and Lee's house. The house is very clean, in a quiet neighborhood, and we had lots of privacy. Lee prepared wonderful breakfasts, lunches, and snacks during our stay. He was also very knowledgable about Erie and had lots of great suggestions for dinner and fun activities.
Spent one night traveling through Erie by bicycle. Accommodations are simple and room is private but bathroom is shared with the host, Lee.
We did not meet or speak with Diane.
Lee was pleasant and gave us some pointers on what to do around town.
If traveling by bicycle there is no place to keep the bikes inside overnight, but lee does provide at least a tarp. The neighborhood is quiet. The lake is a walk through the neighborhood away.
My husband and I were made to feel at home by host Lee. He provided great snacks and bottled water. A full breakfast was at our convienance. The accomodations are comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. Sunsets on the lake were spectacular with the option of walking to the beach or going to the penninsula just 10 minutes away. You couldn't ask for a better host.
I come from a background in the health field and like taking care of people. So when you stay with us, that's what you will get....taken care of.
Lee, my partner, will be the person that will reply to your requests. He is a media producer, working in film, radio, live concerts, sports and special events. He has years of experience in real estate and loves taking care of people as well, so having a B&B is a natural fit for him. And he is a very good cook and will take care of all your breakfasts and lunches, which are included in your stay.
You will be very comfortable in our home and our neighborhood.
