Winter has arrived, bringing snow and new adventures. Ski, skate, or snuggle w/hot cocoa! There is nothing more peaceful than watching deer graze at twilight. The Hudson Valley is always amazing. Come visit and discover the joys of Columbia County.
Hi! Welcome to our peaceful home. This two bedroom ranch is up a hill, out of sight, and ready to make you feel at home. Here you will be able to lounge around, inside or out, and use it as a jumping off point to all the wonderful things the Hudson Valley area has to offer.
Our home is located in southern Columbia County in a tiny little town called Gallatin. We are near Ancram and Pine Plains.
We have two bedrooms of equal size. One bedroom has a king bed, the other a bunk bed and a twin bed with a trundle. Both rooms have big closets and lots of drawers. There is a piano in the living room and comfy furniture to lounge on. We have a wood stove to keep you warm. The house is complete with all kitchen utensils, towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, and books and games. We have a binder full of info on where things are in the house and instruction booklets for things like the coffee maker and other gadgets. There is a washer and dryer available. We have table and chairs on the porch as well as lawn furniture and a gas grill.
There is no cable or internet service and cell service can be spotty. We do have a TV and DVD player and VCR.
We are a three mile walk to Lake Taghkanic State Park, about 18 miles to Catamount Ski Area, 28 miles to Butternut, 16 miles to downtown Hudson, 20 miles to Rhinebeck, and 25 miles to Great Barrington. There are a million great places to visit here and we have two binders full of with info on many of the places you can enjoy nearby.
Please be aware that occasionally it may not be possible to drive up the driveway in winter. Last year it happened twice and the year before just once, but it does happen. We have a space at the bottom of the driveway for you to safely park and there are sleds available to pull things up and down should you need to.
We are happy to answer your questions as I am sure we are leaving something out!

We trust guests will be respectful of our property and treat our home as you would your own. Please turn off lights and appliances you aren't using and keep the heat down. Please clean up after yourself and leave the house the way you found it. and if you have any questions feel free to call and ask, we are happy to answer questions!
Thanks so much!
We enjoyed our stay at Elisa's cozy house very much. It was indeed peaceful and comfortable, and well stocked with supplies (towels, blankets, tea, cookies, etc.) and interesting books to read. My 4-year-old son loved the bunk bed, the piano, the porch swing, and all the games, toys, and VHS tapes. I also appreciated the large binders they provided with instructions for things around the house, directions to nearby stores and restaurants, and information about attractions in the areas. The lack of wifi and cell service took a little getting used to and people staying here should be prepared for it, but since it wasn't in their control I can't really hold it against the owners. (And having all the info in the binders definitely helped!) Elisa was a very welcoming host and responded quickly to questions. I would definitely recommend a stay here!
We had a terrific stay at Elisa's house! We felt very welcome and comfortable. We went skiing at Catamount, which is about 30 minutes away. Elisa's husband Bruce welcomed us upon our arrival, showed us around the house, and was an overall pleasure. The kitchen was well-equipped for lots of cooking, and we found the house to be the perfect cozy getaway we needed. We would highly recommend staying there.
Elisa's home was lovely. We felt truly welcomed.
Her kitchen is well equipped. We could find everything instantly. It was very intuitive. The house is very cozy and inviting. There is a great selection of vhs. We watched JoJo Dancer. A classic!
We barely had any cellphone service in the house, but, in some way, that's exactly what we wanted. Yet, the home phone was always available to us.
We drove to Lake Taghkanic, and spent time outside, looking at the beautiful scenery, laid back, and had fantastic dinners. A weekend more than well spent.
We got to Elisa's property and were so excited to be in a cozy and warm space. There were so many charming pieces in her home and I swear we had to stop ourselves from marveling. There was ample space for our crew and the place was fully equipped for all of our cooking and cleaning needs. Great shower, as well!
Elisa gave us a lot of info on the area and we felt we could contact her at any time if needed, which wasn't necessary.
We would definitely love to be back!
The house/cabin was great. Funky, design definitely a few decades old which is sort of fun for a cabin in the woods. Some houses not too far away but you get some privacy and are next to lots of woods! Cabin is stocked with everything you need except wifi but who wants wifi in a cabin?!! There's a wood stove, bbq propane stove, full kitchen, comfy beds, clean where it matters, bathroom is good and Elise was a great host, gave us helpful info but let us have our privacy. The place is also a little cuter than the pictures! Thank you Elise!!
Another great trip up to Ancram, to relax/record some music/get out of the city. Thanks again Elisa!
Elisa was a fantastic host from a distance. She welcomed us to stay in her home on very short notice. She responded within minutes to my initial request and when I messaged her with questions she responded almost instantly. She was very kind to not set a check out time on Sunday, so we were able to go to the lake all day and then come back, eat something, and get packed up for the drive home. There was no rushing around or trying to pack our stuff around the bikes. She left binders with directions about how to get to various places and events going on in the area.
Hi! This is me doing what I am usually doing - something for someone else. I am actually part of an inseparable pair with Bruce. We would love to share our piece of New York with you.
