Down a private driveway, sitting on a hill, overlooking vineyard views and mountain vistas is a re-modeled 1920's guesthouse. We call it Casa Compostella, for 'field of stars'. Welcome to paradise in wine country!
The 2 Bd./one bath/ farmhouse has everything you need to make your wine country vacation enjoyable. Luxury sheets and towels, a gas fireplace, cozy rooms professionally designed in a sunny, comfortable style. The kitchen is set-up to cook, or sit and look out on the 5 star view of vines and mountains. The location has more sun than anywhere in West Sonoma County! Cool mornings, warm afternoons and then cool evenings make this a perfect climate for living inside or out.
A 60' solar heated lap pool is on the property, as well as a therapeutic hot tub with an outdoor shower. Adjacent to the guesthouse is a path leading to an organic garden, where raspberries can be plucked for your morning breakfast. It is all here, and so much more. Take a slow drive a short distance to some of the greatest pinot and chardonnay tasting rooms. We are minutes to Healdsburg or Sebastopol, where you can find ambitious chefs creating sumptuous meals using local ingredients.
Exercise and activities abound. You can bike on the Joe Rodata trail, just beyond the house, or take a ride over Westside Rd. Hiking is just 15 minutes away beneath beautiful redwood groves. There are two 9 hole golf courses plus two 18 hole courses a short distance away. The pacific coastline is a beautiful drive over the hill from Graton through Occidental, both great towns worth exploring. You will never run out of things to do. Wineries, art galleries, shopping and enjoying life is what Sonoma is all about!
If you are looking for a special treat, you can revive yourself with a day trip to the famous mud baths in Calistoga. If you desire something closer there are several day spas in the area that will pamper you like a princess!
And - privacy! The house is away on its' own. We’ve built a screened-in sleeping porch off in the apple trees that is a perfect spot to read a book or have a massage from our favorite practitioner. Next to the porch is your own patio with barbecue and outdoor eating area.
Here at Knowlton Farms you are away from town, but close enough to everything.
Guesthouse, pool, hot tub, napping porch, outdoor dining eating areas.
Generally Suzanne or Phillip stop by to say hi and give you a tour of the gardens but you are mostly left to enjoy the property at your leisure!
We have an additional vacation rental agreement that must be signed to cover the liability on the use of the pool and hot tub. This will be emailed to you upon the reservation booking.
This place is out-there awesome. While the photos here are great, they just don't do the place justice or really explain the estate very well. It's worth noting that Suzanne is an interior and landscape designer, and it shows. The house is drop-dead gorgeous.
The house for rent is on a shared plot with the owner's house, but in our experience still feels very private. You have your own garden effectively, with table, chairs sun room, croquet lawn and so on. (The rental house used to be a neighbouring house to the owners'.)
The pool *is* in front of the owner's house, but first of all they are both friendly, discreet and fairly busy, meaning we didn't see much of them and when we did our interactions were great. We felt totally relaxed to be here, and were far enough away that we weren't conscious of making too much noise (and Suzanne told us she never heard a peep anyway.)
We found Suzanne and Philip really accommodating, flexible and generous. Whether it was allowing other people to stay at short notice, helping us extend the wifi, or encouraging us to "forage" for fresh fruit and vegetables in their garden, this is one of the best AirBNB experiences I have had.
The Knowlton's are kind and gracious hosts! The property is absolutely beautiful and an amazing place to relax, enjoy life and spend time with people you love. I was lucky enough to celebrate my 30th birthday with a few friends here and we soaked up every second! I would absolutely come back and am already planning on it!!
Some of my favorite things:
-grilling and eating outdoors amongst the blue belly lizards, birds and bees
-soaking up the sun and splashing in the warm pool and boiling jacuzzi
-wandering through the vineyards, picking golden & red raspberries
-washing dishes while looking out amongst the hills and vines
-chilling in the hammock and breakfast nook
-cranking up the fireplace at night
-staring at a sky full of stars
-exploring pretty Sebastopol (Andy's Market, Red Car's Rose, Iron Horse & the Oyster Girls on Sunday, and Jenner Beach & Bodega Bay on the way back to SF)
Ultimately an phenomenal property and guesthouse, and memorable way to explore breathtaking Sonoma county!
Wow!! An absolutely gorgeous property! The house is roomy and perfect for a couple or family. Close to amazing restaurants nearby and 20-25 min to healdsburg as well as great hiking and wineries Can't say enough about the house, decor and beautiful landscaping amongst vineyards. Pool and jacuzzi were so relaxing and wonderful- even better than the pictures! Didn't get to meet Suzanne but her husband Phillip was charming and is so generous with his garden. Highly recommend this place to recharge and relax in paradise!
Loved the house. Great location. We had a great time there.
Our family spent a lovely quiet weekend in a beautiful setting looking out over vineyards and an organic garden. The house is handsomely furnished and offers every amenity. The highlight of our stay was dining alfresco with family and a few close friends.
