Thank you Larry and Susan. My girlfriend and I spent an amazing month with the two of you. The room was great - big with comfy furniture and bed, including a desk for my laptop. Wifi was fast and reliable. We never had any serious problems during our stay, but Larry and Susan took care of things for us and always made sure we were comfortable. They are wonderful hosts and were very understanding and flexible with check-in/check-out times. Their dog is very sweet and loves guests, but also doesnt go into the guest space so even allergy sufferers wouldn't have a problem. Having a private entrance via the balcony was really convenient, especially since my girlfriend was working nights so we were coming home at late hours. The bathroom is very nice and the kitchenette is perfect for simple food preparation. The area is really pretty and convenient with some great restaurants only a few blocks away, a supermarket within walking distance, and several bus lines to campus and downtown. I would highly recommend staying with Larry and Susan if you are in Austin - in fact, we are likely to be back in Austin soon and plan on staying with them if at all possible. Thanks so much and we hope to see you again soon. Matt and Erica.
Staying at the Avenue G Guesthouse was an incredible experience. Susan and Larry are wonderful hosts who make you feel totally at home. The space itself is just fantastic - a private entrance and private balcony overlooking Austin's unique moonlight tower and beautiful skyscape - just awesome every single night. The guesthouse is a perfectly decorated loft with private bathroom, including skylight. The guesthouse has the most comfortable bed, plenty of space to stretch out, beautiful real wood furniture including table and chairs, plus a sweet sink-refrig-microwave and kitchen plates/glass/ utensils set-up for light meals. The wifi was super fast; I used my laptop at the desk, while reclining on the large leather couch, and in my large bed. Really, Susan and Larry have thought of everything to make their guests comfortable. The Hyde Park location is perfect as well - easily accessible to all of the favorites Austin spots and walkable to many including Central Market, Quack's coffee shop, several restaurants, and a full grocery. The neighborhood is historic and very cool - fun to explore. I highly recommend this airbnb. Everything was just perfect.
We stayed here during the crazy Formula 1 weekend this November. This room was perfect. Comfy bed, nice little kitchenette, clean private bathroom. It was nice to have a private entrance to not bother the lovely hosts. And they truly are fantastic people. The location is also great. Close to many restaurants, coffee shops. It is also quite convenient to the fun on 6th street. I would 100% recommend staying here with this wonderful couple.
There's so much greatness to share. The quarters are like a miniature apartment. You have a private, exterior entrance to a room about 300 sq ft (30 sq m) thoughtfully divided into sleeping and sitting areas. A kitchenette, sofa, dining table, and desk round it out, furnishing-wise. A coffee maker, coffee grinder, coffee filters, fridge, microwave oven, TV, radio, etc., round things out, appliance-wise. Outside the door to your room is a closet and a full bath with skylight (the moon shine was welcome as a night light). A curtain at the end of your hallway provides privacy between your bed and bath. The AC was a champ (but I wasn't facing summer days!)
TIP: Moving your things through the private exterior entrance could be dodgey. The hosts invited me to move my things through main stairs, though it wasn't necessary in my case.
TIP: For meals, consider that you can do very light food preparation or stock ready-to-eat items. The kitchenette is limited.
TIP: The curtains are light. Consider that sunrise will bring some light to your room.
BONUS: There's a commercial cluster a short walk away at 43rd and Duval that would reasonably provide for all your dining, coffee, baked goods, grocery, and essential shopping requirements.
My husband and I were visiting our daughter in Austin and were rented Larry and susan Gilg's flat on Avenue G. First of all Susan and Larry were very welcoming and very nice. Unfortunately we were busy with our grand daughter so we did not have too much time to know better Susan and Larry. The flat is very nicely decorated, quiet and walking distance to many restaurants, park, fresh market, etc.. We were very happy with our experience and we hightly recommend Avenue G to anybody. The host and hostess are amazing! This is an awesome private apartment/room for someone who travels a lot. It is located in the hipster friendly Hyde Park part of Austin.
The apartment/room is spacious, clean, and has a mini-kitchen. I would definitely stay here again!
