Join us in what was once part of the Mabel Dodge Luhan estate. This approximately 1,300 square foot Casa is deeply extraordinary. Once the home of iconoclast Victor Higgins and the gathering place of such artistic and intellectual greats as Ansel Adams, Thomas and Dorothy Benrimo, and Rebecca James, it is now registered as an historic landmark.
The unique light upon the Old Morada seen from her guest room inspired Georgia O'Keefe to paint her famous cross series. Another guest, D.H. Lawrence, was impelled to embellish one of the antique interior doors with delightful gold leaf patterns. Morada Lane is now available year around for an exquisite Taos Holiday--please message us now to book!
Located at the top of gorgeous Morada Lane, this enchanting home is a 5 minute walk to Taos' downtown Kit Carson park and a 10 minute walk to the historic downtown plaza and the galleries on Ledoux Street. Our home is on a 1/2 acre plot, bordering the beautiful Taos Pueblo. We love hosting well behaved dogs, so no need to leave your best friend out of the festivities!
This historic home is magical. Our senses were engaged with our surroundings. From the charm of the interior to the visually STUNNING view in back seemed to flow organically. We would take a walk under the violet and blue sunset skies to listen to the coyotes engage with each other and hear the thunderheads roll in as we would walk back to the house. The cracking sound of thunder, the bright flashes of lightning and the heavy rain soothed us. Not long after the storm the skies would clear the stars would shine and the sound of the crickets would remind us that we are truly removed from the fast paced lives we live in our cities.
The property exceed the expectations of four girls who had high, eager expectations. This place is pretty dreamy. It's clean, it's central, it's well-appointed, it's spacious. But it's also just full of character and good vibes, and if you are lucky enough to catch a thunderstorm from the covered patio on the second floor, it starts to feel a little magical. We were all delighted. Highly recommended.
Casita Morada is a special place. The home itself is amazing and the location is superb. The property is beautiful, quiet, and feels isolated yet you're only a short walk to town through a city park. The views are stunning... Sit above in the covered patio/living room surrounded by trees, or gaze at the mountains from the back porch. We really enjoyed our stay there and hope to make it back someday. Our only complaint is the upstairs office. If one of the property managers is there working you can hear every footstep and conversation they have, and it takes away from the privacy we normally felt there. I was under the assumption that the spiral staircase led to a room that was ours as well. However, that's the office, and it's blocked by an ugly piece of plywood. Do not let that stop you from staying here. A minor flaw in an otherwise brilliant place.
The house was gorgeous. Short walk into downtown (5 minutes). Amazing kitchen and spacious rooms.
