If you plan to use the subway consistently during your stay, like us, this is a magnificent place to stay. You can basically find any subway line within a 3 block radius (Lafayette, Fulton and Atlantic Av/Barclays Ctr are the stations). We were able to go almost anywhere without any subway transfers which was extremely convenient. The neighbourhood is very nice, safe and with a lot of restaurants. As advertised the bathroom is three floors up and shared with other people so can sometimes be occupied. The curtains are thin and white so bring a sleep mask if you're easily affected by light and want to sleep late. Overall, a great and affordable place to stay in NY which I highly recommend.
This was the perfect place for us to explore New York. It was convenient to travel around using public transport as it was very close to the train station where multiple lines stopped. Down the end of the street was a lovely little part of Brooklyn with bars and restaurants. The bathroom was spacious and clean. Even though the bathroom was shared I only had to wait once in the 6 days we were there, so no problems with that. The studio is in a lovely 'typical' New York style terrace. Communication was also good. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay!
The location of the home is very close to the metro but İ didnt find the environment safe. İf yolu return to home late, you can meet many homeless people nearby. That made me scared during my stay at home. The house is not a new one but it is quiet. İf yolu dont want to see anyone and want to be the only one at home, it will be best choice to stay.
Tanya and Toni left us instructions when we checked in however I would not name them as clear instructions. The location of the room is perfect though close to cafes, restaurants and not a far walk to Fulton St Mall. The toilet and communal shower at the top level of the building was a pain to get to, the room was great and large however when it rained heavily we found leaks in the roof. Overall not a bad stay but would not class this a good either. The A/C worked well, and although there is no kitchen to use there is a microwave and a fridge.
El cuarto estuvo genial, limpio, agradable y en excelente ubicación para lo q queríamos. Valió la pena la experiencia. Gracias.
Tony and Tanya's place was not ready when we arrived. That was ok - we dropped our bags and went out for a while. When we got back it had been "cleaned", but the carpet was still dirty and the dishes greasy.
The bathroom is not just shared, but up three floors. It was often in use when we went up and also left dirty. There was urine on the toilet seat and smears of who-knows-what on the mirror.
The floors and walls are thin, so you can hear everyone else in the building. We were kept up by the people upstairs walking around till 1am. The front door is also near this studio, so you hear it slam when everyone comes and goes.
The studio also has bugs. I'm Australian - I have a pretty high tolerance for insects - but I got giant itchy bites on my ankles and feet when ever I went barefoot. I don't dare to think what they might have been - lets just hope fleas and not bed bugs.
After three nights, we moved out to stay with some friends instead. We had 5 nights remaining. We phoned Tanya who said she could offer us one night refund. This was not a particularly generous offer, but we accepted it anyway. The next day she texted to say they could only offer us a $60 refund. Then, two days later, she texted again to say they had changed their mind and would not offer any refund.
A little googling suggested airbnb does not really help tenants like us in this situation. The owner is well covered - but tenants are not. So beware! Do your research - particularly on airbnb and bedbugs in New York City.
This apartment was in a good location, but that was really the only good thing about it.
Sounds like you're sour we didn't give you a refund.
To clarify, you said your friend, who lives in the West Village was going out of town and offered you their place to stay while they were gone. You accepted because it's in the city and couldn't refuse.
I specifically asked you if you were ok with the room and you said yes. You mentioned no unease with anything.
The bed in the room was 2 weeks old when you came to stay. I can assure you there are no bugs in or anywhere near the room.
If you were unhappy with the place you should have said so from the beginning that way we could have helped you find another place or airbnb could have stepped in but to give us a bad review because your friend offered you a place to stay 2 nights after you checked in is not ok.
