A beautiful, newly renovated private room located in the heart of downtown Toronto. Our place is conveniently next to Kensington market and Chinatown, and only a short walk from parks, Eaton Centre, Queen St, and many other Toronto attractions.
A few details about the room: It is located on the first floor of the house, with a large window and includes: WIFI, as well as a dresser, a bed, a desk & chair, a flatscreen tv (with cable) and an air conditioner. The entire house is newly renovated with a large skylight in the kitchen (fully equipped).
We also have another room next to this one if you are travelling with friends!
Guests will have access to the kitchen and dining room which is shared with the house (we have a couple tenants on the second floor), as well as any cooking utensils.
The bathroom is shared between 2 rooms, this one and the room next to it which is also an airbnb listing!
The only that's off limits is the washer and dryer, since it is not ours.
My mother/cohost and I generally try to meet our guests, but as we both do not live at the listing, there are some guests that we unfortunately do not end up getting the chance to meet. We are both available through text or calls at any time, so please feel free to contact either one of us!
We love giving recommendations for food or places to visit!
Our neighbourhood is definitely the best place to stay for a visit, with food of all cultures just seconds away and the most unique shops in Toronto.
We are very conveniently situated on a quiet street beside two lively neighbourhoods; Chinatown and Kensington market, both exciting places to visit!
We're also very close to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario), the Eaton Centre, and many Toronto Attractions.
Finally, transportation is key as we are between the College streetcar and Dundas streetcar and right along Spadina Streetcar which comes every minute, and only minutes from the subway.
There is also an indoor private parking lot behind our house, which has a flat rate option for overnight parking.
Really nice room and house - great location! Really easy to communicate with too.
This was a great cozy place in downtown Toronto, right on Spadina in Chinatown. It was pretty fantastic living downtown being able to walk to work. Coming home was also very pleasant as the place was clean and modern! The room really is comfy and cozy. I'd definitely stay here again. Thank you!
Everything is just like the pictures. I like this place, very convenient.
Its a really great place to stay in the heart of Toronto City. Every important places are easily accessible. Calm,Clean and Quiet place to live. I was there for almost 2 weeks for a business purpose. Chanel is so kind and friendly and was always available to help me with anything when I was in Toronto. I would definitely recommend people that they can chose Chanel's house as one of the best option to stay in Toronto. Thanks,Jay!
The room is as pictured and in a fantastic location between Chinatown and Kensington market, close to transportation on Spadina and Dundas and walking distance to the majority of what we did during our stay.
We appreciated finding a place so central yet so cheap, but ultimately it did mean some cut corners. Our bed was extremely uncomfortable--a very firm and uneven piece of foam. Their was no loose sheet, just a cheap and somewhat itchy blanket. Similarly, the pillows were mushy and thin.
I also didn't realize what the atmosphere of the place would be like--more like a unsupervised motel than staying in someone's apartment. We saw quite a few people in the common area, had no idea who they were, and never once met either of our hosts.
It's a no frills, affordable place in an extremely convenient part of town. Clean but not the most comfortable.
I had the worst time ever staying at Chanel's. I would advise against anyone staying here. We booked here for 10 days as just new to Toronto to apartment search. We checked out 2 days early and booked into a hotel.
On location, it is good but it is more in Chinatown then Kensington Market, it is down a alleyway that I would not recommended to walk alone even my boyfriend was a little nervous- 2 doors up is a gang drinking on the porch day & night. One day at 3 pm there was two guys unconscious in the alley. The video she shows is on the main street however you have to walk down the alley to get there.
Nextly we were there 8 days and the bathroom was not cleaned once, the hand towel had stains on it as a few people shared it and it was not changed in 8 days which is pretty gross. It had a dirty sock and many empty toilet rolls that were left thrown on the floor all week.
Our room was right beside the kitchen and when anyone cooks we might aswell be sleeping in the kitchen as the smell would be in our room for hours. A few times people were cooking quite late like 10/11pm and the smells were in our room then for the night.
There seemed to be know one to report too- we did not see Chanel all week- I send a email about the smell which in fairness she replied too.
We just came from Chicago where we paid the same price for our place and it was heaven, luxury and so amazing. I would urge everyone to do there homework more as there is great places out there, sadly this just is not one of them. Our stay nearly ruined our time in Toronto and then had extra cost of hotel.
I'm so sorry to hear that we have had a guest who did not enjoy their stay. Unfortunately, these complaints were not communicated during the stay - I have two phone numbers in the house manual, which guests can feel free to call or text at any time, especially when it is anything urgent. Neither I nor my mother/cohost received any calls or texts during the stay, and we would have definitely responded promptly if we were made aware of complaints.
In my profile, I have stated that I do not live in the area, but I have posted my mother's contact information in the house manual (since contact info cannot be seen until the reservation is made), and she is in the area and always available. I do also try to respond to any contact promptly. As for the late cooking and smell, the tenant responsible will no longer be living at our property as his lease has just been terminated.
Finally, the property is cleaned at least once a week, and my mother had actually met Laura and her boyfriend during her visit, which I guess they have forgotten? Unfortunately we do not have control over the cleanliness of other guests, as the bathroom is shared between 2 airbnb rooms, but we do try our best to keep the place as clean as possible. For future guests, please let us know if you have any complaints!
I do thank you for the feedback as we are constantly trying to improve our guest experience.
Room was as pictured and was very clean and easy to get to and was even accomodated to an early check in. Did not meet Chanel during my stay but met Mee, her mother who was very very kind. The walls are very very thin and the matress is quite firm. Close to transit and great exploring in Kensington Market. Would definatley reccomend it for price, quality, cleanliness, and convinience.
This was a great place to stay...well priced, clean, and in a great location. Although I did not get a chance to meet Chanel and her Mom they were very communicative and ensured everything was set for my arrival.
Tip: If you bring a vehicle I would recommend parking in the garage very nearby on St. Andrew street. It is reasonable in price (about $20 total for the weekend), well lit, and feels secure.
Chanel place is really nice and close to down town Toronto.
You live in the middle of china town with lots of Chinese restaurants and other shops.
It´s easy to catch the street car to get everywhere or join the subway.
My wife and I loved that it was near everything and didn't cost too much. This was our main considerations.
The place was clean and big enough for 2 people. The communication before getting there was always quick and efficient. The fresh towels and the firm bed was welcome. The house was very clean and we felt at home.
After a long day, what we needed was a calm place were we would found refuge and have a good night sleep. Unfortunately, it was not the case. First, because the hallway have an automatic light control system, each time someone walked in front of our door, the ceiling light in the hallway illuminated our room and woke us. And second, even were aware that the room had thin walls, when an occupant is doing is laundry at 2:00AM and people slam the doors severals time very early in the morning, it's very hard to recuperate.
If you want something clean and cheap, don't look further. If you want a place to cool down and have a good night sleep, I would not recommend this place.
