Lagrasse is classed as one of France's most beautiful villages & lies in the foothills of the Corbières between Carcassonne and Narbonne and only 40 minute from the beaches of the Mediteranean.
The village has 6 restaurants, pizzeria, a bakery 2 café/bars, artisanal shops, 2 epiceries, tabac, post office, cash dispenser, doctors & chemist.
The river Orbieu provides excellent swimming in the summer months.
Lagrasse's Abbey founded in the 8th century, is shared between the commune and the Chanoines monks both of whom welcome visitors.
The village is very animated in the summer months with various music festivals, piano concerts, theatre, circus ,pottery & book fairs also a fine firework displat on the 14th July followed by animayions and on the 14th an even bigger display in nearby Carcassonne.
Here is the Lagrasse (website hidden) page description:
Tucked into the heart of the Corbières in southern France, Lagrasse attracts an extraordinary variety of residents, complementing its salt-of-the-earth locals. The tiny population of 630 people live in this medieval listed village surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, its backdrop dominated by an 8th century working Abbey. Situated in a valley surrounded by Mediterranean hillsides full of rosemary, thyme and cyprus trees, the river Orbieu meandering through the village, Lagrasse attracts thousands of visitors each year, some of whom never leave, falling in love with this picture postcard example of rural France and changing their lives to allow them to pursue their dream.
Lagrasse is one of those ‘centres of the universe’; you can be drinking in a bar in LA and meet someone who’s been to Lagrasse; Manhattan is full of Lagrasse lovers; from Nepal to Cape Town, Moscow to Rio de Janeiro, visitors come from all over the world, attracted by that intangible ‘pull’ that Lagrasse quietly exerts.
This is the second time we've stayed with Shona as it's perfect for our needs. If you're house hunting, on a weekend break or exploring this beautiful area of France then this accommodation will ideally place you at the heart of where you need to be. The (free) public car park is a minute away and the boulangerie is just opposite, so warm croissants for breakfast.
Shona is the perfect host; never intrusive but there if you have any questions etc. Our house hunting days are over now, but we'll not hesitate to book in guests with Shona if ever our new French home becomes overrun with guests!
We spent one full week at Shona's and we really enjoyed it! Lagrasse is obviously a beautiful village, it is also very well located to enjoy an area full of "treasures". Shona's studio is the perfect spot to stay at: very quiet, comfortable, super clean, it has everything one may need for a short vacation. And, the cherry on the cake, Shona is a really nice and sweet person! Very glad we had the opportunity to meet her!
The studio was as described. Shona is an excellent host. She lives on the top floor of the building where the studio was located. She is very available but never intrusive. She accomplished a minor miracle when we were there: a storm had caused interference with her wifi system and she was able to get things back up and running in less than 24 hours. We live in France permanently and know how difficult it is to get fast action from the traditional operator Orange. Shona managed through perseverance. We were grateful for her energy in this matter!
We enjoyed our stay in Lagrasse very much. We already knew the town from a previous visit, but it was great to stay there for 6 days and see the surrounding area. Shona's studio is to be highly recommended.
Lagrasse is lovely town and we were very comfortable staying with Shona. She was very helpful with local knowledge.
