This large (2,500 SF), nicely decorated, private apartment has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms with showers, 1 half bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry (washer and dryer), wifi, cable TV, patio with grill, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, fireplace, central heat and air conditioning...
The apartment has a master suite, with a queen size bed, study with desk, and en suite bathroom with shower; a guest room with a queen size bed, study with desk, and a bathroom with shower and bath tub in the hall just outside; and a sun room with a futon which converts easily into a double bed, with a half bath nearby. An air bed and a sofa are available as well, if you have a large group.
My duplex is in Central Gardens, a nice, tranquil neighborhood located in the heart of Midtown. Central Gardens is a National Historic District, is consistently voted Best Neighborhood in Memphis by readers of Memphis Magazine, and has been named one of North America's ten best "Old House Neighborhoods" by This Old House magazine. It is the only Level 3 Arboretum in West Tennessee, with more than 90 species of century-old trees, making it a shady and pleasant place for a stroll or jog.
Central Gardens is perfectly located between downtown, which is a five minute drive away, and the Cooper-Young and Overton Square entertainment districts of Midtown, which are each about a twenty minute walk (or two minute drive) away.
Public transportation: The easiest way to get around Memphis is by car. Buses are available, but inconvenient for tourists. The most interesting way to travel between midtown and downtown is by trolley. The nearest trolley stop is an 18 minute (9/10 mile) walk north of my house. There are three connected trolley lines, and they cover all of downtown.
This place was amazing and the pictures certainly do not do it justice. It was beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate. It had the feel of a high end suite hotel but the comfort of a good friend's home at the same time. We came down for a cooking competition and had some concerns before we got there about using an "unfamiliar" kitchen for competition food. What we got was high end stove and oven, tons of counter space, a very well stocked pantry (we all wanted that pantry in our next house),huge dining room with great chairs, and every piece of glassware and gadget that we didn't even know we needed until we got there. The beds, linens and towels were divine - even the futon/air mattress in the sunroom was great. Plenty of room to have friends over for dinner. There could not be a better location either - plenty of parking, quiet, safe neighborhood in the middle of everything. If you don't have a car, its an inexpensive cab from the airport and anywhere you want to go in Memphis.
The only thing better than the house was our host, John. I had booked the house and was going to arrive before the rest of our party but the airlines had other ideas. I did not wind up getting in until the next day but John made arrangements for my travelling companions to check in and showed them around. He was constantly available and even attended our cooking competition! If you have a group, this is THE BEST place to stay in Memphis - period. Next year, we are going to rent out the house and the adorable guest cottage in the back for sure. My group was full of frequent Airbnb users and this was far and away our best experience so far. Hands down. We can't thank John enough for his incredible hospitality and we can't wait to come back!
Our stay was fantastic! John was a very warm and accommodating host. The house was charming and all hotel type amenities were provided (including yummy Keurig coffees). Very convenient to downtown. We would easily stay here again when returning to Memphis.
We had a great time at John's house. John is very helpful and is always available for questions. The best place to stay if you are going to memphis!
Really nice, large old house in a very convenient neighborhood. Furnishings are pleasant and comfortable. There is some train noise at night, and you can hear the upstairs tenants walking around occasionally, but those are really the only downsides. John is very responsive and accommodating.
John was most helpful and when we arrived, especially when we were delayed by 5 hours. He met us at the door with keys in hand and took the time to explain the workings of the house. He was also extremely informative about tourist attractions as well as local must-do’s (including food).
I would give the highest recommendation to John and his residence for anybody looking for a spacious place equipped with enough linen, towels, and kitchen utensils.
What a treat it was to stay at John's beautiful home! The house is in a great neighborhood, it's well appointed, full of character, and very comfortable. So often, rentals look better online but this was quite a surprise... It was truly bigger and better in person. John pays attention to detail and provides plenty, from extra sets of keys, to loads of blankets. He is also very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions we had.
We sure do hope we need to get back to Memphis soon so we can visit this beautiful house again! Thanks John!
We had the pleasure of being able to stay in John's beautiful home over Christmas this past year! John was very communicative prior to our arrival, and met us at the door when we arrived. He thoroughly explained all the workings of the house and where we could find anything we needed there. Additionally, he went over some of the greatest tourist attractions in Memphis, which we went to ALL OF! All his suggestions were excellent! The house is in a prime location, equidistant from almost everything Memphis has to offer, yet is tucked away in a beautiful and serene neighborhood. As for the home, it was all we could have asked for. It is stocked to the brim with everything you could need, including extra blankets, towels, every kitchen item we could possible want, and all amenities included. In fact, we left wondering what we could do to our own house to improve it to look like John's beautiful home. We would highly recommend John as a host, and know who we would contact when we return to Memphis in the future!
There were five of us girls coming to Memphis for the St. Jude Half Marathon and unfortunately it was cancelled due to icy weather! John has been kind enough to allow us to switch to another weekend and we cannot wait to come check out his beautiful place!! Completely accomodating and helpful over the phone, through email, and via text!! He responded quickly to every question and concern I had about the weather and what we should do! :)
Lovely, spacious apartment in a great and central location. John was super nice and very helpful.
Will stay here again when next in Memphis.
