The house is located in a fraction-San Maurizio Conzano consists of only 500 inhabitants, a food shop and a church on the hills of Monferrato. The area is characterized by vineyards, hazelnut and characteristic villages in tuff (sandstone). Area famous for its wines (Barbera, Grignolino, Malvasia and Ruchè) and for its gastronomy and history. It 'nice visit in all seasons of the year, although the fall and spring express the best the area.
The house is 8 km from Casale Monferrato (35,000 inhabitants) city center with plenty of history and shops-services and rail station. Here is the highway leading in only an hour or so to the sea in Liguria and in the mountains in the Valle D'Aosta. It is also 100km from Turin as well as from Milan. 30km from Asti and 50km from the Langhe. is therefore an excellent starting point for visiting the north west of Italy!

We drove up to be greeted by Elisa's mom at the gate. She introduced us to this large and comfortable apartment that looks out onto rural Conzano and the Alps beyond. Over six days we enjoyed the spacious rooms the wonderful walnut table and the incredible marble kitchen worktop sink next to the gorgeous Italian gas range that inspired us to create warm snacks, taking out to the patio to be enjoyed with memories of our day, plans for tomorrow. Elisa's dad Sergio owns and runs a restaurant nearby and we were able to investigate his place and other osteria/trattorias and wineries. The fine dishes, Elisa's notes and recommendations, her little touches were exquisite. This became our home base and I loved it.
Lovely apartment in very small commune. Sergio and his wife welcomed us warmly and assisted us with any questions we had. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.
Thank you to Elisa and her parents for a wonderful stay in Italy. Whilst the weather wasn't the best (in Nov) we were warm and comfortable inside the apartment.
We had everything we needed, and was in the perfect location to access the Monferrato towns - and a little further out, Lake Como (VERY beautiful) and the lower Piedmont region (Alba, Barolo).
On a side note, it is worth mentioning (as I did not see it in the description) that Elisa's parents have a German Shepard on premises. Although well behaved and friendly, it may not be suited to those not used to dogs.
this was the perfect home away from home for our last days in Italy. Beautiful, spacious and gorgeously decorated with a great kitchen to boot. Lovely outdoor area with gorgeous garden and great views across the swimming pool. Our hosts were kind and helpful giving us tips of where to visit and where to eat. Their orchard impressive and had so many fresh tasty apples we could help ourselves too:) The family restaurant was a treat. We would definately like to return for longer next time.
Our four-week stay at the house could not have been better. Elisa's parents, who live upstairs, were welcoming and attentive to our needs while respectful of our privacy. The apartment is spacious, well furnished, and in outstanding condition, as is the rest of the property. There is a nice view of the countryside from the patio and the garden. The pool is a true pleasure on a hot afternoon and is kept clean and tidy at all times. The garden is verdant and lush, with a variety of roses and flowering plants. The house location is a short walk from a delightful small, village, and a 15-minute drive from a vibrant medium size town. The area is dotted with hilltop towns, each with a bell or clock tower and many with a castle. A rental car is necessary, but traffic is light and there are many winding country roads among the vineyards to explore. I recommend you use a GPS such as an IPad with maps, just in case you want to get somewhere efficiently. As much as we enjoyed our day trips by car, we also spent several days just relaxing and reading in the garden, enjoying the quiet activity of a farming community, and walking around the area near the house.
We had a wonderful stay at the house. It was very spacious, light and comfortable. The view was really nice. It is an ideal place for relaxing. And a good starting point for excursions to charming villages in the Monferrato area and the lovely Torino. The region feels very authentic, with only very few tourists.
The host Sergio was very friendly and helpful, and provided us with delicious fresh veggies and fruits from his garden.
Merci encore!
I was born in this house in the countryside, on the rolling hills of Monferrato. Now I live in the city, in Turin, but as soon as I can, I go back to the countryside to walk barefoot on the grass. Food and agriculture are my best passions.
I love to travel to meet new people and to share cultures; I love to travel by bus, on foot, by bike, hitch-hiking, a little 'less by boat, train ever... the important thing is to do it with the right spirit. I like to travel and stay in the house of local people, because only then, I think, we can feel a bit 'more travelers and a little less tourists. I love to take cues from others' houses, smell their scents, browse in their own little world and invent parallel stories.
I love to stay in the kitchen, no matter where it is or how it is done, the important thing is that it is a place where to cook.
I like the "sugar paper" color, jars filled with jams and pickles, the air in my hair and to know that those who spend even just a couple of hours in my house, they fell at home.
