Other Things to Note
2 night minimum stay.
Karin and Mac are an instant family. Amazing people. Our stay was very enjoyable and memorable and would love to have spent more than 2 nights. Karin and Mac cook great food, too.
Note that your guest room does not have a shower, which is in a separate small building nearby. Your room has a toilet and sink. You will wake up to the sound of birds and monkeys, and your kids will love the farm animals.
This is not just another stay. It's an experience.
Karin and Mac are amazing hosts. Generous, informative, and friendly. Our stay with them was a huge bonus to our trip to Belize and helped us feel at home and already excited to visit again. The accommodations were beautiful, simple, and comfortable - far surpassing any local hotels, offering a true "ecotravel" experience without the hype or expense of a resort, and with the added bonus of knowing our payment goes to a great cause (Karin's charity Gringo Grands, helping local kids access education). For a little extra Karin will cook for you, which is such a treat and sharing our nightly meals added so much to our stay. And last but not least, their dogs are a delight! We loved every bit of our stay and hope to visit again.
Karin was a great hostess. She was attentive, cooked us a lovely dinner and breakfast, informative, interesting, welcoming and we had a great time staying with her. The guest house is clean, rustic and charming. It was our first night in Belize, and waking up to the sound of the jungle at Karin's house was just simply amazing. Thanks again!
My son and I traveled to Belize in August 2013. I wanted an authentic experience for the mainland. I got it staying with Karin! Her place is off the beaten path, which was perfect for getting off the grid. Her property is beautiful, and her neighbors are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The house she had for us was clean and comfortable. The meals she prepared for us were delicious, and she was very accommodating. The land surrounding the houses were clear of any 'jungle', but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing, hearing, and experiencing the foliage around the property that was left native. Hearing the howler monkeys in the distance, and the immense sounds of frogs after the rains brought us back to our roots in staying close to the Earth. The resident genius, Julio, was incredibly interesting to meet. Eddie, the 'ranch hand' was super-friendly. Karin's place near Belmopan was a great launching point to make day trips to many local experiences, including Blue Hole National Park, the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest (many beautiful waterfalls), San Ignacio, Xunantunich (Mayan temple), the Belize Zoo, and cave tubing (at Blue Hole). All in all, it was a wonderful experience. My son and I would do it again without reservation. Thank you for having us Karin!
Karin, Mac and Julio are the best hosts, so friendly and knowledgable. If they offer you the option of home cooked food take it, it's excellent! Genuinely lovely people, the place is beautiful, even in rain, and you really feel like you've seen and done something different by visiting them.
