Romantic guesthouse in the center/ the Souvenir d'Afrique room.
A beautiful and romantic colonial guesthouse in Cartagena de Indias, in the vibrant and traditional Getsemani area, one of the last truly exotic places in the Caribbean, the most dynamic downtown location where new luxury boutique hotels, bars and restaurants sprawl. Positioned in a quiet street, away from traffic and commercial activities, and just a few feet from the Arsenal and the booming Calle del Guerrero night spots and at walking distance from all the best restaurants.
The house is a mix of colonial and mediterranean style designed by award winning architect and decorated with african elements and maps brought back by the owner in his African journeys. All rooms are customed designed and fully equipped. The cotto floors with spanish ceramic accents help you cool down and unwind surrounded by an abundant tropical vegetation with adult mango and palm trees.
Guests can relax in the patios and enjoy an open air tile jacuzzi on the terrace and a mirador/solarium with view on the Cathedral, the churches of San Pedro and La Trinidad and the Castillo San Felipe. The house is on a north-south axis and enjoys plenty of natural ventilation.
This is the main bedroom with 1 king bed, a library filled with an interesting collection of books from all over the world and a tv area with sofa or twin bed. Private bathroom with sea souvenirs from Massawa. Minibar, wifi, a small flat screen tv. Africa inspired decoration. 400 count sheets, hard and soft pillows. The atmosphere, cozy and exotic, the tones from whites to khakis and the cotton mosquito net around the bed will take you to the shores of the Red Sea.
"...as part of a broader Colombian reawakening, the city is resurfacing with boutique hotels, fusion-seeking restaurants and new fashion labels that turn sleepy towns into global destinations. Tourists are descending on its galleries, strolling idly down its byways, reveling with locals at New Year’s Eve parties in public plazas. Travelers now call it Latin America’s hippest secret." The New York Times May 2, 2010
"Take a dash of faded colonial grandeur, then add a dose of sultry nightlife and an influx of cosmopolitan travelers seeking the next great Caribbean hot spot. Oliver Schwaner-Albright sets his sights on an emerging Colombian getaway that delivers all this and more." Travel + Leisure April 2008
"...recently, the Colombian port town of Cartagena has become an unlikely food destination, attracting the kind of culinary travelers who spend their vacations in Rome and Paris. And what they find is a city far more exotic, but no less adroit at catering to sophisticated palates...200-year-old Spanish colonial mansions refurbished with crisp interiors, trendy bistros that elevate plantains to haute fare, and theatrical rooms buzzing with dignitaries in starched collars and Windsor knots sipping minty rum drinks..." The New York Times October 26, 2008

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Les Lezards BnB.
Marcus and his staff are great. Very friendly and helpful people. The room was vey nice and clean. The shower was really amazing! If you are looking for an awesome experience of Cartagena and its culture this is the place to stay! I absolutely recommend his place!
Staying with Marcus at Les Lezards was a true oasis in the middle of Cartagena. We ended up arriving a full 12 hours behind schedule and he still was wonderful enough to plop us down for a quality breakfast and give us a map tour around town. Truly a pleasure!! Highly recommend!
Room was better than expected. It looked good online, but the private little tower we were in was just. perfect. Private patio on second floor, very comfortable bed, albeit not king size, good A/C, spacious bathroom with fantastic outdoor shower. Extensive collection of books and DVDs in the room. A tasty and generous breakfast. The area is safe, just a couple of blocks from Plaza de la Trinidad with lots of activity in the evenings, and bars, restaurants. One more block to the famous La Habana Club. We were thrilled with the location and the B&B. Nice hosts. Met some of the other very nice guests too. Would definitely go back.
The room was beautifully appointed with quality fixtures and hi thread count. The room was romantic and very quiet. The staff spoke almost no English, but Marcus the owner was generous with his time and advice. An unexpected delight was the pair of tortoises that joined us for each breakfast and "demanded" to be hand fed. I would be pleased to revisit Les Lizards at a future visit to Cartagena.
It was a great place in a great locatiin. It was simple but comfortable, safe and as everyone else has said Marcus makes the place great. He is very helpful, and very friendly. Thanks for the help and great stay.
We had a wonderful time at Lez Lezard. It is situated in a safe and dynamic neighborhood just a ten minute walk from the old/walled city. The house itself is charming with a variety of rooms. We enjoyed our upstairs bedroom and the open air shower a flight above, but couldn't negotiate the winding staircase if we were too many years older. The breakfast was very good and the resident tortoises entertaining. Marcus, however, was outstanding. He went out of his way to help us when we left a few items behind and made sure that our experience was comfortable.
Our trip was wonderful, and a large reason was because of Marcus. It started for my girlfriend and myself with a cancelled flight due to a snowstorm, but Marcus was flexible enough to accommodate us. He is very fast in responding to all messages and questions. One evening my girlfriend even got sick and Marcus went out of his way to pick up some medicine at a pharmacy. Les Lezardes is absolutely beautiful and located in the cool area known as Getsmani. It's a bit edgier and has some great bars and restaurants. Best of all it's within walking distance of everything. We stayed there for almost a week and only used a taxi one time to head back to the airport. Marcus's recommendations and knowledge of the area were very helpful. Breakfast is included and it delicious, it includes huevos pericos, toast, fresh fruit, and coffee. I looked forward to it every morning. I will absolutely be coming back.
Marcus was a wonderful host and his home is beautiful! I would absolutely stay there again.
Marcus was a terrific host! The room was clean and cozy and his staff particularly Manuela was amazing! Cartagena is an exciting city and the location of Le Lizards was perfect walking distance to restaurants, shopping etc.....Marcus was always available to take care of all our needs from arranging taxis to making sure we had transportation to and from the airport. I would definitely stay with Marcus when I come back to Cartagena!
Wow, what a beautiful city! The romantic guesthouse is the best place to stay in Cartagena. Is a place where Marcus and Manuela and all the rest of the staff makes you feel at home.
We stayed three nights and Marcus was really helpful, ready to answer all our questions and provide tips and recommendations. Marcus really knows what is happening in Cartagena and Getsemani is definitely the neighborhood to stay.
The house is beautiful, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed every corner of it including the jacuzzi in the second floor. The room was perfect and so the delicious breakfast prepared by Manuela.
We would love to go back to Cartagena and definitely we will stay in Marcus home "Lez Lezards".
Mil gracias por todo!!!.
Miguel y Agustina.
