About This Listing
Romantic guesthouse in the center/ the Souvenir d'Afrique room.
A beautiful and romantic colonial guesthouse in Cartagena de Indias, in the vibrant and traditional Getsemani area, one of the last truly exotic places in the Caribbean, the most dynamic downtown location where new luxury boutique hotels, bars and restaurants sprawl. Positioned in a quiet street, away from traffic and commercial activities, and just a few feet from the Arsenal and the booming Calle del Guerrero night spots and at walking distance from all the best restaurants.
The house is a mix of colonial and mediterranean style designed by award winning architect and decorated with african elements and maps brought back by the owner in his African journeys. All rooms are customed designed and fully equipped. The cotto floors with spanish ceramic accents help you cool down and unwind surrounded by an abundant tropical vegetation with adult mango and palm trees.
Guests can relax in the patios and enjoy an open air tile jacuzzi on the terrace and a mirador/solarium with view on the Cathedral, the churches of San Pedro and La Trinidad and the Castillo San Felipe. The house is on a north-south axis and enjoys plenty of natural ventilation.
This is the main bedroom with 1 king bed, a library filled with an interesting collection of books from all over the world and a tv area with sofa or twin bed. Private bathroom with sea souvenirs from Massawa. Minibar, wifi, a small flat screen tv. Africa inspired decoration. 400 count sheets, hard and soft pillows. The atmosphere, cozy and exotic, the tones from whites to khakis and the cotton mosquito net around the bed will take you to the shores of the Red Sea.
"...as part of a broader Colombian reawakening, the city is resurfacing with boutique hotels, fusion-seeking restaurants and new fashion labels that turn sleepy towns into global destinations. Tourists are descending on its galleries, strolling idly down its byways, reveling with locals at New Year’s Eve parties in public plazas. Travelers now call it Latin America’s hippest secret." The New York Times May 2, 2010
"Take a dash of faded colonial grandeur, then add a dose of sultry nightlife and an influx of cosmopolitan travelers seeking the next great Caribbean hot spot. Oliver Schwaner-Albright sets his sights on an emerging Colombian getaway that delivers all this and more." Travel + Leisure April 2008
"...recently, the Colombian port town of Cartagena has become an unlikely food destination, attracting the kind of culinary travelers who spend their vacations in Rome and Paris. And what they find is a city far more exotic, but no less adroit at catering to sophisticated palates...200-year-old Spanish colonial mansions refurbished with crisp interiors, trendy bistros that elevate plantains to haute fare, and theatrical rooms buzzing with dignitaries in starched collars and Windsor knots sipping minty rum drinks..." "David Ebershoff visits this dreamy city by the sea, a place that wears its rich history as lightly as it does its languorous charm." Conde Nast Traveller March 2007

Marcus and his amazing staff could not have been more helpful with our stay. He had a car waiting for us at the airport, and took care of many of our concerns and questions about our stay in Cartagena. I highly recommend staying with Marcus to anyone looking for a pleasant stay in a beautiful property in the best part of this old city.
Our stay was amazing. The room was beautiful and clean. Luis and Marcus made us feel very "at home" and made themselves available at all hours. I would recommend this B&B to all of my friends when visiting Cartagena.
Very cute, thoughtful friendly staff, nice little terrace to bathe in and in a great area. Will definitely recommend this place
Wow, what a unique and beautiful place! This is our second time visiting Cartagena and first time staying in Getsemani. Marcus was a great host, we felt welcome and taken care of. Being picked up from the airport was a godsend after all the traveling it took to get to CTG. He provided a map and recommendations on places to see and eat, made our trip a sucess. Walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Thanks Marcus, we very much enjoyed our stay with you and it was a pleasure meeting you!
Another fantastic stay at Les Lezards. I first came a year ago and knew I wanted to come back - everything is that great! If you're on the fence about staying here, jump on it.
Marcus was extremely responsive, helpful, and such an amazing host in an amazing apartment. Seriously the pictures do not do it justice. Our room had our own private terrace and a clean bed with a huge television. Upstairs was the bathroom which is also a sight to see--clean beautiful with hot water. There is AC in the rooms which kept it cool and the ladies who work during the day are extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast is great and the location is amazing. You really feel at home and are a hip skip and jump away from all the best that Cartegena has to offer. We will absolutely be back and recommend this place to everyone! There is even a jacuzzi on the top floor that you can use and watch the stars from. Superb.
A great night in Cartagena! We were met at the airport and had a comfortable ride to the beautiful neighborhood of Getsemani. Like a Disney World Spanish Colonial town ... but the real thing! At Les Lezards, we were shown to our room, given a tour of the house, and offered drinks by Manuela. Then Markus sat down with us and a map and gave many good suggestions for places to walk and eat (Gaucha mixed grill for two, mmm). He also arranged a booking for us on Marsol (bus) to Santa Marta! The room was cool and comfortable; I think we got the best one as we had an amazing, huge shower in a little tower surrounded by mango trees. Plus a comfy bed in a nook (with tv an dvd collection) and private terrace. Had a dip in the not-too-hot tub after dinner and even managed to pet the lovely cat Anaïs (who was not *quite* as friendly as Markus!) and say hi to a large tortoise. Then ate a nice cooked breakfast, served on our little terrace, listening to the parakeets chatter. All in all a perfect getaway.
