2 1/2 hour, beautiful drive from the tip of Manhattan to my little piece of heaven. Weekend retreat, artists home, land line, no cable, very little cell phone coverage, 15 minutes from top 10 spa in the world, nature, Delaware river, gun range, Modern-Contemporary, nestled in upstate Ny.
Built in 2008. Traditional, farmhouse style exterior with modern, open airy (website hidden) with DVD player, tons of DVD's, radio in kitchen, patio furniture on front and back porches. perfect for 2 couples or artist looking for peace and quiet. Kitchen has all new appliances, open doors in kitchen lead to the back deck. 1 open, loft style, bedroom, with sliding doors to close the space off upstairs. Downstairs a second bedroom with a queen size bed. Plenty of firewood stocked in the front yard. Family friendly as I have a 7 year old whom frequents the home with me often.
All access except for one small closet in the upper bedroom.
Interaction with Guests
I am available to interact as much as needed. I am a huge fan of the area and still discovering new things each time I visit.
Fifteen minutes from the home is the Spa at Woodloch, rated one of the top 10 spa's in the world. There is skiing at Big Bear on Masthope Mountain, the Delaware River is 5 minutes away, Skinners Falls is the place to go and lay out and get your swim on. Antiquing in all of the neighboring towns. Great food all around the area.
Really a perfect area to take a weekend and explore.
Car is necessary, unless you ride a horse.
Train from Penn station to Port Jervis station is also option but need to be picked up from there by car or cab.
Other Things to Note
If fireplace is used, make sure the flu is open.
Make sure flu is closed when leaving your stay.
Never leave the home if there are cinders still warm. There is a metal pale near the woodpile inside that you can shovel everything into and leave out on the walkway to the home. (Not on the decks)
Thermostats are always on 50°. When you get into the house you can adjust to what u find is comfortable (70° is usually a good temp).
Please do not forget to turn the thermostats (lower level and ground floor) back to 50°.
Garbage: please leave garbage in bags then put into the pale on the back deck. Please make sure the lid is secured properly or the bears will come.
Hammock: if you open the front door and pretty much walk straight to the wood line you will see 2 pine trees that have O rings to hang the hammock. There are 2 hammocks hanging inside the kitchen closet on the back of the door.
Please shake off before bringing back in.
Motion sensor light on front porch. There are two light switches to the right of the front door, one controls the lights right outside the door on both sides and the other is for a spot light that is connected to a motion sensor. I leave that on as if you arrive at night the light will go on if you pull your vehicle up to the end of the driveway.(otherwise it gets pitch black and hard to see)
There are gates to block off the stairs for children located in the lower level bedroom closet.
Please leave all linens and towels in the boiler room at the end of your stay.
Guests are expected to treat the home as if it were their own. I keep the home in pristine condition and expect it to look that way when the stay is over. I leave all of my personal belongings out for my guests to experience, they all have some sort of value to me, please put things back where they came from and treat with care.
Cleaning: $25 cleaning fee per person.

Robert made it simple to get into the house, and was very available to answer questions leading up to the trip. Everything was as beautiful as the photographs. It's a well built, well furnished place with a really nice kitchen. The fireplace was great, and Robert left plenty of wood to burn. There was also a flatscreen in the living room with a great collection of DVD's, so when we weren't cooking or walking in the snow, we had some excellent entertainment.
We visited when there was about a foot of snow on the ground, and the driveway (about 100 yards) was not plowed. Thankfully we had 4-wheel drive and were able to make it in. If you go in the winter, it'd be smart to ask to have it plowed beforehand!
This is amazing house! Has everything you may need during your vacation: variety of utensils, good selection of dvds for you and kids, high quality bathroom essentials. The house is so beautifully designed and decorated that we got some smart ideas what we can improve in our house:) And finally, Rob was in contact anytime we called him. Even when my toddler called him accidentally during midnight :) I would highly recommend this house and considering returning back for summer vacation.
Robert's cottage is exactly as described. A very charming little home nestled in the woods. My wife and I really enjoyed spending a few days here following a big Thanksgiving snowstorm. Without cable/Internet/cell phones, we found our time there very relaxing and peaceful.
We had a really nice stay in Roberts cool, curated, cottage. It's in a beautiful, peaceful setting and that's exactly what we were looking for. The kids toys and dvds were helpful with our 4 year old. We will return!
The cottage is beautiful and was a perfect spot for a weekend away. Clean, modern, surrounded by trees. We had a fantastic stay.
We had a great time. Robert's house was well designed with more of an urban style. Well stocked with everything you could need, including charcoal grill and hammock. House was located about 10 mins. outside of Barryville, down a quiet street. Located on a beautiful woody lot with a big yard. We had a great time and hope to return. Thanks.
The house was exactly as it was depicted online. It was very quaint, well equipped and with a lot of attention to quality and detail in the build. We especially loved the outdoor shower! Would definitely stay there again.
Creative problem solver, artist, father.
I love traditional on the outside and technically up to date/high-performance on the inside. Grind hard during the week and escape from NY on the weekend.
I like minimal esthetic, wilderness and wildlife.
