2 1/2 hour, beautiful drive from the tip of Manhattan to my little piece of heaven. Weekend retreat, artists home, land line, no cable, very little cell phone coverage, 15 minutes from top 10 spa in the world, nature, Delaware river, gun range, Modern-Contemporary, nestled in upstate Ny.
Built in 2008. Traditional, farmhouse style exterior with modern, open airy (website hidden) with DVD player, tons of DVD's, radio in kitchen, patio furniture on front and back porches. perfect for 2 couples or artist looking for peace and quiet. Kitchen has all new appliances, open doors in kitchen lead to the back deck. 1 open, loft style, bedroom, with sliding doors to close the space off upstairs. Downstairs a second bedroom with a queen size bed. Plenty of firewood stocked in the front yard. Family friendly as I have a 6 year old whom frequents the home with me often.
I am available to interact as much is needed. I am a huge fan of the area and still discovering new things each time I visit.
Fifteen minutes from the home is the Spa at Woodloch, rated one of the top 10 spa's in the world. There is skiing at Big Bear on Masthope Mountain, the Delaware River is 5 minutes away, Skinners Falls is the place to go and lay out and get your swim on. Antiquing in all of the neighboring towns. Great food all around the area.
Really a perfect area to take a weekend and explore.
Car is necessary, unless you ride a horse.
Train from Penn station to Port Jervis station is also option but need to be picked up from there by car or cab.
If fireplace is used, make sure the flu is open.
Make sure flu is closed when leaving your stay.
Never leave the home if there are cinders still warm. There is a metal pale near the woodpile inside that you can shovel everything into and leave out on the walkway to the home. (Not on the decks)
Thermostats are always on 50°. When you get into the house you can adjust to what u find is comfortable (70° is usually a good temp).
Please do not forget to turn the thermostats (lower level and ground floor) back to 50°.
Garbage: please leave garbage in bags then put into the pale on the back deck. Please make sure the lid is secured properly or the bears will come.
Hammock: if you open the front door and pretty much walk straight to the wood line you shod see 2 pine trees that have O rings to hang the hammock. There are 2 hanging inside the kitchen closet on the back of the door.
Please shake off before bringing back in.
Motion sensor light on front porch. There are two light switches to the right of the front door, one controls the lights right outside the door on both sides and the other is for a spot light that is connected to a motion sensor. I leave that on as if you arrive at night the light will go on if you pull your vehicle up to the end of the driveway.(otherwise it gets pitch black and hard to see)
There are gates to block off the stairs for children located in the lower level bedroom closet.
Robert's house was efficient, modern, and comfortable, and a treasure trove for the design minded. We contacted Robert last minute and he was very accommodating and available. Me, three of my girlfriends and my three month old daughter spent an extremely snowy weekend cozying up to the fire, taking baths, cooking meals, and hanging out. The bright white interior made the place feel clean, and the open plan ensured we'd all be in it together. Great aesthetic! Great kitchen! Comfy beds! All went off without a hitch. Thanks, Robert.
The house was well-designed, immaculately clean and the property large and fun to hike about. A big bonus for us were the children's toys. My three year old daughter was thrilled to play with the Barbie ride on jeep and the mini-kitchen.
We enjoyed the charming towns nearby, of special note was Narrowsburg. Ten minutes drive was Rohman's Inn with its ancient bowling alley where you can be the "pin-setter". Fifteen minutes away, the revamped Hennings Local restaurant cooked up excellent locally sourced food in a laid back country atmosphere.
Overall, we had an excellent few days away from the city with good food, quiet entertainment, and fresh air, only a two hour drive from the city.
my husband and i spent a weekend here. and the stay was awesome from start to finish. we'll be back for sure.
the owner, robert, was super easy to deal with and nice from the very beginning. he made getting to and into the house simple and hassle-free.
the place itself is amazing. a beautiful home tucked back in the woods, off the road, surrounded by trees and wandering wild turkeys and nobody else in sight until you step off the property for a walk or hike.
the kitchen is modern and clean and was great for preparing all the good stuff, fruits, and veggies we got from the local farmer's market.
the back porch is perfect for lounging, having a beer, and reading a book. there's a grill we didn't use, but would love to next time.
the fireplace makes the cozy living room even cozier, and there are a few hundred photo, design, skate, and street art & culture books littering the home - in an incredibly organized way - to dive into. we didn't venture towards any screens, but if we wanted to, there's a tv with about a million DVDs also scattered about.
if you could call a weekend home curated, this one would fit the bill. the owners have a great collection of street art and alife prints from the past decade or two, and there are so many detailed touches we kept finding throughout.
this place, and the stay, was unbeatable, especially for the price. big fans.
We had a great time at this place. The house was very nice, fully equipped kitchen, clean and comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. Would def come back.
