They will have access to our hottub and outdoor shower and back deck (weather permitting).

Interaction with Guests

We always respect their privacy number one. We love to share our knowledge of the area if they request and have always had lively breakfast conversations. If time permits, we are happy to accompany them on a hike or river tour as we know the best spots.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood with its walking proximity to Nevada City, easy access to Hi 20 and amazing country quiet is really quite the zenith of Nevada City living.

Getting around

You do need a car or a good pair of hiking legs or a bicycle.

  • This was the first time my partner and I have used AirBnb, and I am SO GLAD we chose the House of the Dancing Trees. Karen was a very gracious hostess. The room was cozy, and well decorated, we felt right at home. One of the main reasons we initially chose this place was because of the hot tub, and it did not disappoint. It was well maintained, the perfect temperature, and the view/atmosphere was incredible. It was like being in a hot springs in the middle of a forest. Very relaxing.
This house is literally a forest retreat, so finding it requires careful attention, but Karen gave us her number in case we got lost, so that worked out fine. Breakfast in the morning was made with fresh eggs from the chickens next door, and filled with pleasant conversation. Karen gave us some tips on where to go sledding, and promised to let us know the best swimming holes if we come back in the summer.
One more thing: THE VIEW. We slept with the bedroom windows open, and woke up to the most magical view of miles of forest. What a way to start a day. If you live in the Bay Area and want a quick getaway I really recommend this place. It's 2.5 hours from Oakland, but feels a world away. My partner and I absolutely plan on returning, we had a great experience.

  • Karen and her husband Don were such a pleasure to meet and spend some time with! We arrived a little late in the evening, and both were there to greet us. We were delighted to hear about their travels, and they made us feel really comfortable and welcome in their home. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed was really comfortable, and we woke up to a beautiful view outside our window each morning. It was such a pleasure to spend time at the House of the Dancing Trees!

  • Staying in the House of the Dancing Trees was such a delightful experience, I am now looking for my own place out in Nevada City. Karen and Don were both entertaining and a wonderful wealth of information about the local area, from biking and hiking to restaurants and history. Their house and its landscape were truly breathtaking, I can only give a wholehearted "STAY!!" if you get the chance.

  • My fiance and I have stayed now twice in the last several months with Karen and Don. They are gracious hosts and make you feel immediately at home with their warm smiles. We love the place, it's cozy, spacious, charming and has a jacuzzi on a beautiful deck, which overlooks the beautiful woods of Nevada City. We both have felt very comfortable and at ease with both their company as well as a feeling of privacy. Oh, and what a wonderful treat in the morning with a wholesome fanciful feast of delicious proportions! We definitely recommend Karen and Dons place as a place to stay while you're visiting the quaint, historic, fun spirited, and reimagined town of Nevada City.
    Thanks Guys!

The space we stayed in was nicely decorated, clean, inviting, and private! • An open and inviting home, nestled in the oaks and pines. Close to town. It is about half hour walk through peaceful neighborhood or a quick easy 3 minute drive. Karen and Don were wonderful hosts; very easy to talk to and excellent breakfast cooks! They opened their home to us, were available whenever we needed while affording privacy as well. The home itself was amazing, tree-house like with a tranquil deck to enjoy an afternoon snack and a good read. Our room was comfy and the outdoor spa made for a good nights sleep. Bonus #1 was a guided hike on the Yuba with the great company of Karen and #2 was a cuddle bug of a dog, Ginga. Nevada City itself is always a fun town to walk around, shop a little and chat with super friendly people.

  • Karen and Don were the perfect hosts, very engaging and sincere about making us feel at home. Karen was up preparing and serving us the most incredible breakfast of eggs, Belgium waffles, fruit, pressed coffee, and more. The suite we stayed in was very private and impeccably decorated with tasteful and interesting objects from all over the world. The location of the home was surrounded by quiet forest yet close enough to walk into town. We only intended staying one night, but we could not resist staying one more night in this fabulous B & B. The best we have stayed in during our road trip. We highly recommend this accommodation for its high quality and value.

  • Of course, you'll suspect me of hyperbole. Imagine, though, trying to convey the mountain retreat beauty of a property or the delicious, luxurious comfort of a home that's radiant with stories. Imagine describing that secret ingredient you can not purchase - hosts who are gracious and graceful and humor-filled and interesting and really delighting in the world. See? It's not easy, is it? We were there so briefly and yet left feeling like we'd basked in something very rich and inspiring. It wasn't unlike a luxury small hotel experience.

  • Wow! Only 3 minutes out of the historic downtown Nevada City! A simply beautiful home that feels like an art museum and has you looking at marvelous treats. We stayed in the room with the bathroom and it had such an incredible view, we went to bed watching the trees and sky turn colors and listening to the lovely water sounds from the water fountain outside. Earlier in the evening we just hung out on the huge deck with a view to die for and serenity to the max. I read a book and was really in my happy place. Very gracious hosts.
