About this listing
It is full on summertime here in the Foothills and we still have water flowing in our Yuba River. So, come on up (or down) and enjoy a relaxing soak. We know where the locals hang out to enjoy the river and we have discovered some gorgeous alpine lakes within 45 minutes from our house.
Only three minutes from downtown Nevada City and nestled in a forest of oak, pine, manzanita and cedar trees, the House of the Dancing Trees on 2.5 acres is a great place to relax in the quiet of nature and the beauty of art and antiques. We offer our guests the " T.S. Eliot " room with a full view of Banner Mountain. This spacious room includes a queen size bed, internet access and its own private bathroom, complete with a shower/bathtub and a large counter space for toiletries. Guests have access to our hot tub which is ideal for star gazing and our rose garden and pond area with private seating. For guests requiring two separate sleeping spaces, we offer the "Proust" room with a double bed for an additional charge. Both rooms use the same bathroom and include breakfast which is served on the back deck with a panoramic view of Banner Mountain. Our guests delight in our breakfast of fresh eggs, our very special waffles, fruit in season, coffee, tea, and juice. The beauty and outdoor recreational activities of Lake Tahoe are only one hour from our house and for skiers, Sugarbowl Ski Resort is just 45 minutes up Hi. 20. Guests can also mountain or road bike directly from our house to great trails or hike the Yuba River. Many of our guests just enjoy the famous 3 mile Lewis Road walking loop which provides a good chance to meet our great neighbors and have a chat with donkeys, goats, llamas and cows. And don't forget to explore historic Nevada City with fine dining and great wine tasting and where Europe collides with California's gold country spiced with a little bit of New Orleans party spirit.

They will have access to our hot tub and outdoor shower, back deck (weather permitting) and rose garden.
Interaction with Guests
We always respect their privacy number one. We love to share our knowledge of the area if they request and have always had lively breakfast conversations. If time permits, we are happy to accompany them on a hike or river tour as we know the best spots.
Our neighborhood with its walking proximity to Nevada City, easy access to Hi 20 and amazing country quiet is really quite the zenith of Nevada City living.
You do need a car or a good pair of hiking legs or a bicycle.
Other Things to Note
I like to give exact directions especially if quests plan to arrive at nightime. It is quite dark and easy to miss the turnoff. We have one dog and one cat. We also serve breakfast in our breakfast nook when the weather cools down.
Enjoy and respect the quiet and please conserve water. We do not allow pets or smoking.
This was the most delightful experience.....Karen's home was inviting & warm & truly beautiful. Karen was the best hostess I've ever experienced with airbnb. Her breakfasts were scrumptious & sitting on the deck in the trees, in the morning was pure contentedness. She helped us with where to hike on the Yuba River, good places to eat in Nevada City and the loveliest walk to take around the "country" near their home. Sitting in her garden was the peaceful break we had been looking forward to.
Really good experience! Karen was a perfect host and made us feel at home! We had the best breakfast and many interesting conversations with Karen. The house i beautiful and the room is very cosy! You can easily walk to Nevada city from there. Nevada city has plenty of charm and a very good place called the Three Forks. Don't miss out!
Karen and Don are fantastic hosts. We were graciously welcomed and felt comfortable in their house. The relaxing back patio and interesting decor alternately soothed and engaged us. But most of all Karen and Don are fascinating to talk with. Thanks for the delicious breakfasts and friendly conversations.
Karen was a wonderful host. Communication was easy between us and everything was clear. Karen's place is even lovelier than the photos can describe. It really is set amongst dancing trees. There is a wonderful deck for having home-made breakfast that was such a lovely and delicious experience. The location is quiet and gives easy access to the quaint and historic gold rush town of Nevada City (don't miss Three Forks for drink and food), as well as secret and not-so-secret spots along the South Fork of the Yuba River for spending the day.
Karen's house was wonderful, not only the house, but also the surroundings. Karen offered a delicious breakfast and she was very social og welcoming
Karen and Don have a beautiful home in Nevada City. Karen immediately made me feel welcome even though I showed up a couple hours early than what I had initially planned. She graciously invited me to soak in their hot tub and even told me when the best time would be for privacy. The bed had soft sheets and the mattress was so comfortable. I had to leave very early the next day and told Karen that I would be okay to not have breakfast that morning. Karen told me she woke up early anyway and proceeded to be an impressive hostess by making a kale scramble with fresh laid eggs and a side of mixed fruit; she also had a big pitcher of French press coffee...really best hostess ever! She did ask me before hand what I liked for breakfast, which I absolutely appreciated. She is wonderful communicator, fantastic hostess and truly a friendly individual. Should I return to Nevada City and need a place to stay, I would undoubtedly call Karen again.
We were served a healthy, delicious breakfast -- with our choice, in the dining room or on the deck overlooking the forested property. The house is a little off the beaten path, but not hard to find and close to the road to the Yuba River.
