Come and enjoy our upcoming Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival (website hidden). One of the largest film festivals in the country devoted to inspiration and education. Nevada City is alive with spirit!
Only three minutes from downtown Nevada City and nestled in a forest of oak, pine, manzanita and cedar trees, the House of the Dancing Trees on 2.5 acres is a great place to relax in the quiet of nature and the beauty of art and antiques. We offer our guests the " T.S. Eliot " room with a full view of Banner Mountain. This spacious room includes a queen size bed, internet access and its own private bathroom, complete with a shower/bathtub and a large counter space for toiletries. Guests have access to our hot tub which is ideal for star gazing and our rose garden and pond area with private seating. For guests requiring two separate sleeping spaces, we offer the "Proust" room with a double bed for an additional charge. Both rooms use the same bathroom and include breakfast which is served on the back deck with a panoramic view of Banner Mountain. Our guests delight in our breakfast of fresh eggs, our very special waffles, fruit in season, coffee, tea, and juice. The beauty and outdoor recreational activities of Lake Tahoe are only one hour from our house and for skiers, Sugarbowl Ski Resort is just 45 minutes up Hi. 20. Guests can also mountain or road bike directly from our house to great trails or hike the Yuba River. Many of our guests just enjoy the famous 3 mile Lewis Road walking loop which provides a good chance to meet our great neighbors and have a chat with donkeys, goats, llamas and cows. And don't forget to explore historic Nevada City with fine dining and great wine tasting and where Europe collides with California's gold country spiced with a little bit of New Orleans party spirit.
Welcome to the House of the Dancing Trees!!! And we are legally registered with our county!
They will have access to our hot tub and outdoor shower, back deck (weather permitting) and rose garden.
Interaction with Guests
We always respect their privacy number one. We love to share our knowledge of the area if they request and have always had lively breakfast conversations. If time permits, we are happy to accompany them on a hike or river tour as we know the best spots.
Our neighborhood with its walking proximity to Nevada City, easy access to Hi 20 and amazing country quiet is really quite the zenith of Nevada City living.
You do need a car or a good pair of hiking legs or a bicycle.
Other Things to Note
I like to give exact directions especially if quests plan to arrive at nightime. It is quite dark and easy to miss the turnoff. We have one dog and one cat. We also serve breakfast in our breakfast nook when the weather cools down.
Enjoy and respect the quiet and please conserve water. We do not allow pets or smoking.
I can't say enough about the House of the Dancing Trees and the hosts, Karen and Don! The house is in a lovely setting in a woodsy, hilly area within walking distance of Nevada City in a very private location. The house is filling with wonderful art and pieces from their travels. The room is very comfortable and Karen's waffles are delicious! I so enjoyed their lovely home, but the best part was getting to know Karen a bit and hearing of her fascinating life. I highly recommend a stay at the House of Dancing Trees.
Karen was very hospitable. She knew the area very well and gave us many great recommendations on where to get good food and go on hikes. She also made us a very nice breakfast of waffles, fruit, yogurt and coffee. The next morning she had made quiche with fruit and yogurt on the side, with coffee. She also shared a lot of her experiences with travel in the peace core and dancing. She was wonderful!
The room was clean and pleasant with a great view. We had nice large bathroom to ourselves. Also, the hot tub was very enjoyable with a view of the Forrest from her deck. Over all it was a wonderful time that was well worth the price. We look forward to staying at the House of Dancing Trees with Karen in the future!
We loved our stay at Karen and Don's peaceful and eclectically appointed woodsy retreat. The bed was so comfortable, which is saying a lot because I have a very bad back; I had two wonderful night sleeps. Also, the breakfast that Karen made was delicious and the conversation pleasant and enjoyable.
Karen and Don are kind and warm hosts and we will definitely make a point to look into booking another stay in the future.
This was my third or fourth visit and Karen and Don are beginning to feel like family! It was another great stay -- just too short. Karen's new egg recipe is delicious!
We had a very nice day at the house of the dancing trees! Although we arrived late and left early we had everything we need at the house and Sharon even set out a nice breakfast for us
Karen and Don were wonderful hosts. They were incredibly welcoming and down-to-earth. Karen gave us recommendations for dining and entertainment that evening. Their home is lovely, even nicer than the pictures look, and the hot tub was perfect on a chill autumn night, set in the woods and her beautiful garden. The next morning, Karen cooked us a delicious breakfast of homemade waffles with berries. We can't wait for our next trip to Nevada City and hope to stay with them again!
This was my second stay with Karen and Don, and the first with my wife. We both found the accommodations very comfortable and had a delightful time with our hosts. They bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. This was particularly impressive in that Karen had a broken wrist!
